I may be wrong, but this popped up in my head after watching the full length trailer 50,000,000 times.
In the end of the trailer, you here an alarm preaching “Mayday mayday, Forward Unto Dawn immediate evac, 117!” and a man who we haven’t seen in the trailer before (or have we?) saying “Play it again, please.”
In the end of Halo 3, Master Chief and Cortana are left stranded in the middle of space, approaching planet Requiem, on the ship Forward Unto Dawn after it split in half due to a slipspace error when the Arbiter and Master Chief tried to escape from the collapsing Installation - The Ark, out of desperation. Cortana tells Master Chief “I’ll drop the beacon, but it’ll be a while before anyone finds us. Years even.”
In an interview with Tom Green, Tom said we’ll be able to watch the main protagonist Thomas Lasky as he gets older. Replaying the Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn trailer, I couldn’t help but think to myself, "what if that IS an aforementioned mature Thomas Lasky? Is that the Forward Unto Dawn’s beacon? Does that mean Thomas Lasky heard the beacon and is going to start a search party or something to find Chief?
I don’t know if I’m wrong or not, wouldn’t be surprised, but if I am right, that’s gonna be -Yoinking!- sweet. I guess a bunch of you guys already knew this though, I just found out today. I don’t know, but I’m just throwing this out there for those who didn’t already consider.
Please, feel free to discuss and give me some feedback! Sometimes I’m a slow learner so I guess this could’ve been basic for most, but I’m putting this out in high hopes! Thanks for reading and please leave a comment.
You only needed 50,000,000 replay to get it?
(Not insult, I know there are many that have yet to get the reference…)
And yes, is very likely the “play it again, please” is some kind of reply to the beacon of Cortana.
Good you get it!
If you pause at the right moment at the end of the trailer, you can see the name tag of the UNSC officer you’re talking about. It reads “Lasky.” In addition, Lasky, at the time the Infinity receives Cortana’s distress call, he’s achieved the rank of Commander.

^^Toa Freak knows everything[most of]
I was hoping we’d get more info on Andrew Del Rio, the Admiral who commands the UNSC Infinity. But hopefully Lasky has some importance.
I personally thought it was obvious…
I love the way they’re tying it into Halo 4
It says that? Didn’t notice, but yeah I was going to say it is Lasky.
Perhaps play it again was meant for us!

343 did say that he would play a major role in Spartan Ops and the campaign. Perhaps something happens to Del Rio, or Lasky is what it takes to convince Del Rio of the danger on Requiem
Wasn’t until now that I’d no idea how dumb I am sometimes…
Thanks guys. xD
I had already figured this out.

I hope so. He kinda got the shaft in Glasslands.

Wait, who got shafted in Glasslands?

Del Rio. I would’ve at least liked to have someone meet him, not him get namedropped…like many things in the novel did.
Personally, I think this is more or less how this fit in Halo 4.
This same beacon is what attracted the Covenant (I dunno, what faction is this… ex-Covenant, because it could be friendly Covenant at first, and later turn in enemies…)
Then the Infinity comes and rescue the Chief.
Then the Chief use one of this ships showed in this concept art.
Some time latter in the campaign (1/3) is when the Infinity is (for unknow reason) forced inside Requiem.
In fact, I could almost bet, that will be something like that…

Ah. I completely forgot he was mentioned in there. I would imagine (hope) we’ll see more of him in The Thursday War.
I like it when he says “Play it again, please.”, and then I’m like “Well, since you said please.”
OT: that’s what I had assumed since it’s Cortana speaking saying Mayday and Foward Unto Dawn in the same sentence, I just automatically thought that was in the future when Halo 4 is happening and that’s Cortana’s beacon that she dropped in Halo 3.
I did not notice the man because I already saw him before. But yeah, it’s Cortana speaking and it’s most likely her distress call. Nice find!
The adult Lasky looks strange though. Is the officer in this screenshot Lasky or Del Rio?

Since we haven’t see a proper render of either Del Rio or Lasky in game, it could be either. It might even be a Marine Officer that has not yet been identified.
Personally, I’m inclined to think it’s Lasky.

It is Lasky, if you pause it at the First frame of the “Unknown Guy” Saying play it again please, his shirt says Lasky. lol.

I dont like Del Rio, in one of the cutscenes you can see him argueing with the Chief. He seems arrogant and stubborn.
