Halo 4 Forums: Why was my thread moved?

Why was my thread moved?

Wondering why your thread was moved? Well hopefully this post can provide you with some clarification and reasoning behind the recent reorganization.

With all the traffic going on in the Halo 4 forums, the moderation and administration team has come to the decision that other forums need to be utilized while still continuing the various conversations about Halo 4. The Matchmaking section is now being used for ONLY matchmaking-related topics dealing with Halo 4, the current Halo installment. For matchmaking threads dealing with any other Halo installment, please post in the respective game forum.

Below are some examples of what should be posted in both the Matchmaking and Halo 4 forum sections.

What topics belong in the Matchmaking section

  • Playlist discussion
  • Multiplayer map discussion
  • Game type discussion
  • Game mechanics discussion
  • Title Update discussion
  • Ban discussion
  • Sandbox balancing discussion
  • Join in progress discussion
  • Regional filters discussion
  • TrueSkill discussion
  • CSR discussion

What topics belong in the Halo 4 section

  • Campaign discussion
  • Spartan Ops discussion
  • Custom games discussion
  • Storyline discussion
  • Soundtrack discussion
  • Armor discussion
  • Loadouts discussion
  • Daily/Weekly challenge discussion

Please note this list is subject to change based on how it functions. The purpose of this is to filter some of the Halo 4 discussion so people have the chance to discuss multiple aspects of Halo 4. As always, if you have any questions relating to what to post and where, please feel free to message any moderator or post in this thread. Thanks!

Can a thread belong in the halo 4 topic if it contains something in both lists?

> Can a thread belong in the halo 4 topic if it contains something in both lists?

It really depends on the post and the discretion of the moderator viewing the thread. I would say it depends what type of discussion is being generated from the thread. We will take every thread on a case by case basis and try to move them to where we believe it is best suited. If you ever have any questions about a thread, always feel free to ask any of us and we will try our best to guide you in the right direction.

Sandbox balancing questions go into matchmaking now…but what if we’re asking about balancing a weapon across campaign/Spartan Ops/Multi and not solely multi? Does it still belong in matchmaking?

For example I would ask about whether the Assault Rifle’s bloom should reset faster to bolster it’s burst fired accuracy to help it at ranges outside of spitting distance.

Also for it to get more ammo than currently allotted with the Ammo support upgrade. Normal max is 224, with Ammo you get 256, only one extra magazine while the BR and DMR get their normal ammo limits doubled (108-216 and 42-84 respectively). The suggestion there is for the AR to go to 352 with ammo like in Halo 3/ODST.

Now as these would be universal changes across the entire game…does that still go in matchmaking?

To be honest, I preferred it the way it was. I liked being able to go on to the Halo 4 forums and being able to find and discuss all things Halo 4. Multiplayer, campaign, matchmaking tactics, whatever. Simply for the convenience of not having to search multiple forums.

I seem to have a problem. Somehow, the “other forums need to be utilized” seems like code for “we needed to bury that thread where it was embarrasing us”. Somehow, I am finding it sneaky. Somehow, I find the lack of expected features on a premiere title for Xbox a sad excuse of a beta for which I paid top dollar. Somehow, I find the lack of addressing the several threads hundreds of pages long about the issues with file share and custom games just disrepectful. Somehow, I am losing all respect for Microsoft and 343i.

Keep it up, you are changing my mind about future purchases. I did buy the game on launch, and purchased the DLC. I WAS going to buy a new console with Kinect, a Windows 8 tablet and a Windows 8 phone when my contract was up. Now, with the way the game and the customers are being handled, I am simply going to get an android tablet and the next android phone. See, the way you treat your customers has a far reaching monetary effect beyond the immediate situation.

Your Mom,

As someone who has personally contributed to keeping a major complaint thread active, I can assure you that this is not the case. The rationale behind the reorganization has been explained in brief by snickerdoodle in this thread’s Matchmaking-section counterpart. She also notes, correctly, that as the community adapts to the reorganization, population levels in both sections will even out, ensuring that a moved thread still receives the attention it is due.

Those are understandable concerns, but this thread is not the place to raise them.

Yeah, I gotta be front, my killcam thread was moved to matchmaking forums even though I intended it to be matchmaking and custom games.

Yet again, it really depends on every individual thread. If your intent is to make a general discussion of the Assault rifle across the entire game than it would fit in the Halo 4 forums. It really depends on what type of discussion the thread generates. Matchmaking threads follow any one of the criteria above, but if you are trying to have a general discussion of an aspect of Halo 4, then it belongs in this forum.

The specific topic you described above, personally, I would leave it in the Halo 4 forum because you are discussing the weapon overall and comparing it to how it performed in previous installments. If you ever have a question on where a thread goes, please ask and one of the moderators for clarification and we would be happy to help out.

Well then if this is true why was my Custom Game topic moved from Halo 4 to a different forum? So far this topic DOES NOT back up anything that has happened recently

I recently had a thread moved from here over to the Matchmaking Section of these forums. I am a bit confused seeing as how it completely encompasses the “Custom Games Discussion” bullet point that Austin7934 posted under the “What topics belong in the Halo 4 section” part of his original post. Can someone please clarify the reasoning behind the relocation of my thread?

Thanks,

-Ghost

well that explains why i couldn’t find ghost’s v1 thread this morning. it really should be moved back to the Halo 4 forum where the most people can read it, especially because it is in regards to custom games.

Because your topic was, “I’m hosting a custom game lobby, post for an invite” which falls under the Recruiting section of the forums. By “custom games discussion” we mean discussion of the mechanics of said customs.

Hey Ghost -

Sorry for the confusion. While yes, your topic could fall under the “Custom Games Discussion” criteria for a Halo 4 thread, we looked at it and think it falls more under the “Game type discussion” and “Game mechanics discussion” bullet points. As MLG is a competitive group with competitive settings, we felt your thread fit better in the general Matchmaking section as a whole. At least to me, your thread embodies more than the usual custom game discussions that usually happen (such as the threads discussing the lack of custom game options) which also contributed to the move.

If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a PM!

What about Halo 4 [VS] Halo Universe. I mean in the case if I have ideas for Halo 5 or other Halo games? I think Halo Universe, right?
I have there nearly a private-topic of good ideas at the moment :stuck_out_tongue: .

But: if someone want not to talk over a complet new idea.
I mean: what about if someone want to talk over the evolution of things (things that are based on H4 - cuz H4 is the newest game atm) … where to put that? Not a big problem for me, but would be still good to know.

Thx. >|<

Thats a good question Saint, lets see if I can provide some clarity.

For starters, if you have ideas for Halo 5 that would belong in the General Discussion as currently we do not have a Halo 5 forum so the GD has been housing H5 ideas. If you want to talk about anything related to story, it can go in the Universe section. If you want to talk about the Halo 4 campaign, I would put that in the Halo 4 forums.

Summary, anything Halo 5 should go into the GD until we receive a Halo 5 forum. Story discussions may be able to go into H4 forums or Universe forums depending on the content of the posts.

If you are thinking about talking about the evolution of Halo based on Halo 4, it would really depend on the context of the thread but the two places it may be able to go are the Halo 4 forums or the General Discussion forums. If you are basing the evolution entirely off of Halo 4, then maybe it would go into the H4 forums but I think the GD may be more appropriate for those types of posts.

Regardless to what the monitors say, they are trying to stifle the plethora of complaints that people have with this game. As the multiplayer was so bad and the campaign was so-so, people just wanting to hear opinions on Halo 4 will be fooled into thinking that the game isn’t that bad as they can’t see any of the complaints with regards to multiplayer, unless they go to the “Matchmaking” section - which they won’t.

You couldn’t be farther from the truth. A lot of people tend to forget that the monitors are not 343i employees and we each have our own individual opinions about Halo 4, both good and bad. We never censor out what anyone posts on the forums unless its their personal information or links to shock sites. We originally agreed that this new system would be a better system of organization to enable topics to have both a longer life and to have different topics discussed. Everyone is as always able to discuss whatever issues they have with Halo 4, the only difference is its in matchmaking. Even with Halo Reach, matchmaking topics were discussed in those forums so its only natural that they transition to the new game.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and they all can express it. If you want to voice yours, feel free to voice it in the matchmaking section. Just because its in a new section doesn’t mean people wont visit it.

Please stop moving threads to dead parts of this forum. The Halo 4 forum is the most populated and all threads regarding any aspect of Halo 4 should be there. No one wants to search through different parts of the forums. It’s as efficient as Halo 4’s user interface, not very.
