Halo 4 Forge: Wish, Request, and Idea List

Feel free to post your ideas, or build on each other’s ideas. This is a thread for the discussion of what you would like to see in Halo 4’s forge only.

Simple Needed Features:

A “snap rotation” system that allows you to change the pitch, yaw, and roll independently from each other. This would allow the user the to change the yaw of and object to anywhere from 0, to 360 degrees, and then change the pitch to anywhere from 0, to 360 degrees without changing the yaw or roll. This is a very common reoccurring barer in Reach that restricts users from being able to unleash their full creative potential (well, for me anyway).

A “highlight and drag” system that would allow you to move a group of objects, and rotate the pitch, yaw, and roll, of that group of objects at one time.

A “delete everything” option for party leader only.

A “forge for party leader only” option.

A “test map during forge” option that activates any objectives for the game-type you choose, takes all players out of forge mode and “spawns” them at the initial spawn points for that map to allow you to test your map without having to exit the forge game.

A “copy and paste” system that allows you to highlight any object, or group of objects, copy the highlighted object(s), and then paste the copied object(s) anywhere you want. This would allow users to make symmetrical maps by simply making half a map, copy the half you made, paste the copy, highlight the half you just copied, and rotate it to fit the first half of the map that you made. You could only “copy and paste” as long as the you have enough budget left; example: if you make something that uses more than half of the map’s budget, you will not be able to duplicate all of what you made.

Wanted Features:

The ability to change the physics that will effect an object (I know you can do this in Reach, but the physics of an object are only effected in forge, I want to be able to drive into a rock with a Warthog and knock it over). Example: you place a rock, but you want that rock to be able to move in-game, so you simply change the physics of that object to “normal”, but you can change the physics of an other rock to “fixed”, if you do not want that rock to move in-game. An other example: say you want to play a custom game, “King of the Hog” for example, but you want the Warthog to be in-effected by gravity, but you want everything else to be effected by gravity. So, all you do is set the Warthogs physics to “zero G”. It would increase the possibilities for custom games tenfold! Just imagine!

The ability to set a “camera” on a map, and a “TV monitor” that allows you yo see everything the camera sees. It would work very much the same way teleporters work, with channels anyway, you couldn’t walk through the camera and thump the security guard on the head. Just think of the custom games!

The ability to place “switches” to activate objects you program. Example: you place a switch, set the switch’s channel to “alpha” for example, then you place the object you want to “activate” with the switch. The way you “program” an object would simply be to place the object where you want it to be initially, and set that object to channel “alpha”, “phase 1”, and then move the object you wish to program to it’s destination after it’s activation and set the object to “phase 2”, and then you can set the speed at witch the programmed object will move. This way we could have open-able gates and doors, expandable bridges, anything!

The ability to save a screenshot to the map you make as a way to further personalize your map. Example: every map built within Forgeworld has the same picture (I believe it is a picture of the island or somewhere close by). What this feature would allow you to do is when you make a map, and you save your map, you will have the option save a screenshot of what you made within a map like Forgeworld, and assign it as the picture that everyone will see, instead of the default Forgeworld background. This would help differentiate maps with the same name, and make it easier to find good maps.

The ability to “program” man cannons for any job. Example: say you want to shoot a Spartan across a map that is to big for one man canon, but you don’t want to use five man cannons, so you “program” the man cannon to shoot players anywhere you want simply by placing a man cannon, and then placing a “landing pad” wherever you want the player to land. This way we would only need one man cannon instead of “man cannon light”, “man cannon heavy” etc.

The ability to have objects spawn, and despawn at specific times. Example: say you want to make a traffic light, but you want the light to change every so often, all you have to do is place whatever color light you want, then set the “respawn timer” to, say ten seconds, and then set the “despawn timer” to ten seconds. The light will then spawn and be there for ten seconds, and then despawn, and repeat the cycle.

Wanted Objects:

Personally, the only objects I REALLY want, are all the simple geometric shapes. Cubes, pyramids, spheres, cylinders, cones, rectangles, triangles, squares, circles, etc. You get the idea. Oh, and glass panels, just simple glass panels of various sizes. Leave the creative work to the people who use the objects, otherwise we end up with useless objects like “walkway cover”, honestly a large glass panel can be used for a LOT more things than the “walkway cover” we have in Reach.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, barrels, crates, pallets, wire spools, concrete barriers, cones, forklifts, and any other deadly man cannon food you can think of to fling at defenseless Spartans balancing precariously atop a tower of easily toppled blocks, if you know what I mean.

Well, I’ll try to think of more things to add.

COPY AND PASTE PL0X

I want to place AI and be able to forge underwater without my spartan drowning.

  • object scaling
  • select more the one object
  • merge objects together and save as new object
  • copy & paste
  • mirror
  • activate objectives
  • turn off all default bounderies (if we want to forge in the stupidest of spots, let us … )

oh, and most importantly, add a guide!!

Reserved.

I think the most important feature would be to be able to swap between any texture in the game for every object. Or at least every wall texture for every wall object, etc…

Guardians.
I want to be able to place Guardians (like the ones in Halo 3) around the map that will attack the player when they leave the map.

oh, a publish feature would be very helpfull, what it would do is take every object mesh on the map and turn it into one if they are connected to each other, should help with performance.

A lot of good ideas, Eshcka. You’re the only other person I’ve seen besides myself who’s suggested a feature to essentially test/simulate a custom game (with objectives and such) from within Forge.

Anyway, check out my ideas here.

That is an awesome idea!

Multi-Texture Spherical objects of different sizes.

A guide?

In addition to all these things, It would be nice if we could have some computer connectivity for things that would be more awkward to do with an Xbox360 controller. Because you are Microsoft, let us have a website or downloadable program for Windows that goes along with Halo4 forge on Xbox360 and/or on PC. Thanks 343i!

buttons/switches that you can connect to different objects to make them move, explode, disappear or appear.

ALSO NEEDED: A variety of forging maps and the ability to make regular maps (as in not made especially for forging) forgable (as they were in Halo 3).

I think it would be awesome if we could make maps from scratch, just have a completely blank pallet, and be able to choose what kind of building materials (human, Covenant, Forerunner) we want to use on the map. Example, say you have a large list of building objects, and you want to make a “human” themed map. So, all you do is change the pallet theme to human, and you still have all the same objects you had before, but now everything looks man-made.

It would be awesome if you could build a structure out of blocks, and then save that structure as one object that you could place anywhere, any time. You could have your own custom building pallet!

I’m not sure if it’s possible, but I think it would be cool if you could take a group of objects and save them as one object, and have that one object take up less budget than each object individually. That would be so cool! It would make signatures for screenshots SO much more simple!

I would love these Simple Needed Features.
