I am a decent forger, I crafted some good maps in my day, both in Halo 3, and Reach. In fact ever since Halo 3 introduced the game type, I was thrilled, a dream come true.
When they first launched Forge, it was rough and limited, with some okay maps, but it had charm. Something about it was just lovable, like a new born puppy stumbling down the hall way, not quite right, but you love it anyway. But Bungie improved upon a great idea, with the inclusion of some fantastic Forge maps, i.e Sandbox and Foundry. But while the maps were good, the mechanics themselves were just a little off.
Fast forward a couple years and here enters Reach, boasting the brand new overhaul for Forge, with a brand new massive open space with various locations and scenery this seemed to be the perfect product. Simple things like Zoom and Pinpoint object movement were implemented which just added a delicious frosting to an already delicious cake. This was truly a step forward for the game type. But after a while, the color scheme and pieces, like everything, eventually lost its appeal.
Fast forward another couple years and here we have Halo 4. With 343i behind the wheel now we expected great new things, taking everything we knew and loved about the previous installments of Forge and adding their own flair, spice, and touch. We Knew that 343i cared for us, the fans, since after all, they are a team composed almost entirely of Halo fans to begin with. So I raced, I popped in the beautifully illustrated disc into my 360, turned it on, and I was in awe. The title screen, here it was, the moment I had been waiting for. What did I get?
A half–Yoinked!- remake of what had already been done, but with smaller, more crowded maps, and they some how managed to take many features OUT COMPLETELY. Limiting us to having to use a broken Magnet tool, sure I could turn it off, after all I’m not Forced to use it right? But then how am I to align the pieces? They REMOVED THE PRECISION MOVEMENT FEATURE COMPLETELY! I thought to myself, “This…this can’t be.” so I stormed over here to the forums and rest assured, I see some other fine Halo fans complaining about what my very thoughts were. I NEVER use forums, but this got me so much that I felt I needed my voice heard. This Forge was supposed to be the Pinnacle of forge, creativity, and love. But 343i I feel really shafted us. They added some okay features, but removed dire important ones. Mostly the precision tool. Honestly if they just updated and added this single feature, I would be okay, because there are always later map packs they could use to benefit us Forge users, but to ruin the core mechanics themselves…thats just ridiculous. But lets be fair, this is quite literally the only problems I am having with Halo 4. 343i bravo on making a damn good, and solid game. The campaign was truly something to be seen. So now that that is over, lets fix the damn Forge Mode!
If you’ve stuck with me to here, I’d like to thank you all for reading this and hearing me out. I hope that you all have enjoyed playing the game and experiencing the amazing campaign. Until next time, I’ll see you guys on the Battlefield…the very limited…soft kill zone infested, battlefield.
