Halo 4 - Forge Maps in Matchmaking

Halo 4 - Forge Maps in Matchmaking

Frankie has said this previously that yes, there will be forge maps in matchmaking, but not immediately “phew”

The Big questions are when and where these maps will be put into playlists of the next Halo.

Reach, in my opinion, is infested with forge. This isn’t a good thing for a positive experience playing Halo anymore. I loved Forge in Halo 3, it was simple and intuitive with the objects being different, and not JUST forerunner in appearance.

This is just my opinion, but I would like to see forge in matchmaking although NOT everywhere, because I know a LOT of people do like to create maps for themselves and other players. All I want is for them to be in a separate playlist. For example Halo Reach has this:

Anniversary (for the people who bought dlc)
Competitive
Cooperative
Community

I wouldn’t mind it at all if it was in the Community playlist or maybe a slot in the competitive playlist or two, but it will basically say what you’re getting into before hand (keep in mind when I talk about Reach’s playlists, it’s for example and Halo 4’s will most likely be different)

What do you guys think? This a toughy, I just don’t want Forge to be forced down our throats…

People hated Reach’s Forge maps because of the repetitive aesthetic, and because frame rate limitations crippled what Forgers could do when designing, which led to sub-par gameplay experiences.

It seems like Halo 4 is going to solve the former problem, and it very well could solve the latter. If that’s true, then I don’t see the problems in putting the maps in all lists – after a small delay, of course, to ensure that people know what they’re doing with the new Forge.

Competitive playlists?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I don’t see a problem with forge in matchmaking. As long as they pick great maps designed and voted on by us, the community. We won’t see a reach repeat were the maps were alright but it was forever gray.

I think it is good to put certain forged maps into matchmaking, but in my opinion they should be seperated from the basic playlists. Have one, maybe up to three playists devoted to forge maps. Only the best maps should be put in. Maps that are well balanced and fun to play on. Maps that are truly unique or are the perfect remake/reimagination of older maps.

Later on, when Halo 4 is getting a bit older, they could intergrate the best of the best into the regular playlists.

That is in my opinion the best thing to do.

I highly doubt that there won’t be at least one “default” map for each forging area on launch. I am pretty sure forge worlds are included in the 10 launch maps(If it turns out to be 10 map AND 3 Forge maps than bravo 343).

That said it wouldn’t be like Reach where there were 5 Forge maps from one map on launch. It is similar to Halo 3 where the forge maps had one default setup to begin with(MM Foundry, Sandbox).

When adding Forge maps to the standard MM rotation they should only add maps built and playtested by 343 extensively. 343 should give us Mid-DLC content updates with forge. 343 would treat the maps as they would DLC but without building the map from scratch. Maybe every third Update is community Highlights.

So Halo 4 launches-> Midpoint 343 Forge Content-> DLC 1-> Midpoint 343 Forge Content 2-> DLC 2-> Community Highlights-> DLC 3 This would be maps that are included in a Competitive section, hopefully we will get some new forge environments and building materials in the DLC proper

The Community section would be more fast and loose with Forge maps.
So you might have Community that include mostly forge so if you want to avoid forge fatigue you would play in the standard playlists.

You hit the nail on the head

EDIT: One more thing, Uncaged is probably my ONLY favorite forge map in Reach and I would love to see that as an actual map in Halo 4

I don’t mind the forge maps being in MM if they are good. Most of Reach’s were not.

I agree with icy dark moon, no forge maps in regular playlists atleast until halo 4 gets a bit older

As long as the maps are well designed and balanced then I’ll be fine with Forge maps in MM. A separate Community play list would be good to.

The forge maps in each have brought alot of better gameplay to multiplayer. I personally dislike most of the base maps. The forge maps allow great creations and creativity to strive and allow for new play spaces, without the purchase of DLC. What’s better then free, new maps?

Love Forge maps in matchmaking. However with that being said I kind of prefer the H3 method for the Forge MM. If I recall correctly they had Forge maps only on certain weekends and it had its own playlist.

Like some people said above let these maps be picked by us the community. A Forge contest should be used on occasion as well.

Basically the same as my reply.

Why can’t people think outside the box and find out the reasons why they don’t like a feature and, only then, should they start calling it bad.

I don’t know if people are confused into what I said in my original post, but I said that, yes, I WOULD LIKE to see forge maps in multiplayer. What I’m trying to specify is that I would also love if forge maps weren’t strewn around EVERYWHERE in matchmaking and put into it’s own entity/playlist.

I should have made a poll saying:

> Forge maps everywhere in matchmaking
> Forge maps in separate playlist in matchmaking

I’d hate to put weeks into designing and testing the -Yoink- out of a map, only to have it relegated to a low-population playlist where only a fraction of the community will ever see my hard work.

I’d love to see Forge maps end up in matchmaking, but only the good ones. I think 343 should pick some maps, maybe 5-8, and put them in a playlist, collect the data, analyze it, and put the most popular map (or two) into the rest of matchmaking (where it fits). Then they can cycle it every month or two, with different styles & sizes of maps.

I think it would be good to give a lot of maps, and make sure to pick only the most popular maps for matchmaking.

I actually like the idea of forge maps in matchmaking. If they’re integrated into their own playlist i feel like it will just split the community further. i prefer that they be integrated into already made playlists, but only the best of the best be accepted.

I think there should be a competiton like there was for reach, where we send all our maps to 343, they look over them, and pick like 10-12. Then once they choose, put them in a forge playlist or something of the sort. Then depeneding on which ones are the most choosen by people in voting in that playlist, they could take those select few and put them into the main playlists.

It not only would give forgers a chance to put there stuff out there, it would give the community a chance to test them out before they go into the bigger playlists

Forge maps are HORRIBLE! I have only seen a FEW good forge maps since they added forge in Halo 3. That being said, 343 should add some forge maps into matchmaking because 343’s maps are just as HORRIBLE!

We should use some forge maps in matchmaking, as the same maps keep getting selected…
