Halo 4 Forge Maps: Do They Meet Your Taste?

We’ve all been pretty hyped up about Halo 4, and I will say: it is an AMAZING GAME. My favorite by far. One thing that I love is that they’ve upped the ante with forge with new, small features implemented that’ll make a huge difference in how custom maps are made. There is one minor issue that I’ve been having, though. For me, I feel that the maps available, while they are awesome, are limited. Especially Erosion, where I thought I’d be able to make a water map.

The purpose for this thread is to discuss what you think of the maps. Obviously, this is a matter of opinion. Feel free to let it out, but no flaming here, please.

Also, what do you think of the possibility of them releasing a forge map in DLC (like Sandbox) with much more space and versatility?

DISCUSS!!!

Its definitively more diverse then reach. Im having fun with it so far. Impact is just sweet.

It’s so much easier and funner! I use dominion pieces for terminals and all. It’s great!

~ Like Bar-B-Q most defintley its like starting a fire with the right charcoal " Kingsford " =D

The three forge maps are little girls compared to the scale Reach’s forge world. It felt like 343 was unable to come close to Bungie’s success and decided to give us three smaller maps to make up for it.

Halo 4 dosen’t have a similar map to forge world which blows my mind. Forge was one of the best things in reach, now to me it just feels like a step back.

Im satisfied for the most part with the maps, i think the boundaries could be stretched a bit bigger though. Other concerns i have right now would be:

Adding the zoom and ‘precision editing’ modes. The magnets take away most of the need for it but theres only so many places to magnetize the pieces and sometimes what your planning doesn’t work out.

Making gravity volumes sizes and shape customizable instead of just 5x5 or 10x10 boxes

adding more custom game options, which i don’t doubt will be added in a TU soon enough so i’m not too concerned about this

They are too small and confining.
I wanted to build a map at the bottom of the ravine in Ravine, and died instantly.
Also, the nudge system being removed is also annoying.

Although nice to look at, none of the new Forge Worlds are nearly large enough to satisfy my needs. I’m killed when I explore areas I should be able to build on. The worlds are already limited by being islands, underground or isolated asteroids, and yet they still limit them. So even though you think the limits go as far as the eye can see, you are GREATLY mistaken as the maps boundaries are ridiculously claustrophobic.

These forge maps are terrible, we need a new forge world, or even the old one reskinned. Either option is better than the 3 crap maps we have now.

I just realized I was kind of vague on my opinions of the maps. I think I’ll just list the pros and cons lol.

Pros

  • The color scheme of each map is great and provides a lot of variety, unlike Reach’s very dull, grey texturing.
  • The maps, in themselves, look flat out amazing.
  • Great for any sized map

Cons

  • The boundaries are just too narrow. It makes it feel way too closed off.

All in all, I think they’re all great. Heck, I’m going to forge tonight after just talking about it. But I’d love if they provided a downloadable large-scale forge map as a single DLC, like Cold Storage, but on a Sandbox scale.

we didnt have everything needed for awesome maps in halo3 until the first map pack, so im happy to wait for abit to see if we get some new toys to make and break

There is a nudge system, however it’s not as fine as before.

This is EXACTLY my only issue. Although Forge World was really dull, I kept building on it because, well, there was so much space. Honestly, I expected Erosion and Impact to be the smaller maps, while Ravine would be the bigger one, seeing the land in the background that would be perfect to forge on.

How do you do it?

My major complaint is that they reused like 90% of the pieces from Reach instead of making new ones. I have a feeling that it will really take away from map diversity.

I don’t have it on right now but if I remember correctly you have to select/grab the item in question and press B. Somewhere in there it should have “Edit Coordinates”.

While I like their diversity, I dislike their size, it’s hard to make really big fun maps like you could in Reach.

Halo Reach had Edit Coordinates, but Edit Coordinates =/= Nudge System

I still have no idea why 343 would remove so many things, force people to play THEIR gametypes instead of allowing people to make unique gametypes, and then continue to say that Halo 4 allows the most customization out of any Halo when CE had more.
