The one thing I don’t get about the mission is that the covenant tries to kill the Chief. I get why they want to kill him from a game perspective but it doesn’t make sense using logic because to release the Didact then a reclaimer has to touch the control panel and since the Covenant aren’t reclaimers then they couldn’t release him and if they had killed the Chief then the Didact would stay in the crypt for a long time or until the idiots on Infinity decided to touch it but by then they may have figured a way out of Requiem.
What do you guys think? If the Chief had been killed before releasing the Didact would someone from Infinity have released him or would he have stayed in the crypt for a lot longer and there would be no story for Halo 4.

Looking back at other games, other humans were capable of activating Forerunner objects (Sgt. Johnson at the Ark, Anders with the Forerunner fleet). So if the chief was killed they would have gotten another human to open the Cryptum most likely.
I assume the Storm Covenant would have obtained a human somehow (either through trade, smuggling, capture, etc.) and forced them to activate it. That’s actually the same thing that happened to Sgt. Johnson, Commander Keyes, and Prof. Anders in the games…all were captured and forced to use the control panel.
