The campaign is short and most levels are 90% foot combat, the parts that seemed promising (Broadsword part and Pelican part) were short and the potential presented by these cool vehicles was clearly not reached.
Spartan Ops seems like a cheap attempt at beefing the game out a bit.
Custom game options have been stripped down, classic gametypes removed and Infection ruined.
Don’t even get me started on the Matchmaking.
Other Halo games felt incredibly polished. The developers seemed to have stuffed as much as they possibly could in and gone over almost everything with a fine toothed comb. Halo 4 seems exactly the opposite, it seems like minimal effort and funds were put into it and the main goal was to ship the game as fast as possible and collect as much money as possible.

Have you ever played another Halo title?
In the first 3 Halo games, you had missions where you went forward through an area, and then back through the same exact area with new enemies. You wanna complain about filler? Halo 1, 2, and 3 were full of it. The campaign lenght is what… about 8 hours on the easiest settings? So still longer than something like Call of Duty’s modern games, which can usually be completed in about 5 hours.
So yeah, foot combat is emphasised… but then again, it’s just the Chief for about 90% of the game… so what would you prefer? To drive around in a Warthog by yourself for half the game?
Spartan Ops? 50 scripted missions (probably about the same scripting, if not more, than the main campaign) and 10, several minute long fully animated cutscenes… and that’s just the first season. Far more depth and substance than the mode it replaces… yeah, just filler.
Polish? This title has made the biggest jump in fidelity that the series has ever made. Even the Jump from 2 to 3 was not nearly a much as 3 is to 4. It’s one of the best looking games on the Xbox, and unlike most modern multiplayer releases, almost everything has worked perfectly out of the box.
Your only really valid complaints might be the stripped down custom games options, which can be buffed up in an update, and any opinion-based multiplayer balancing issues (which are all entirely subjective, and likely to change over the life of the game anyway).
Sometimes I wonder what 343’s number one goal was, I’m sure it was the visuals, people judge the game first by their sight, if they think it looks good then they’ll buy it. And that’s basically what 343 needs to sell the game, they got their money.

I disagree. I think Halo 4 feels more polished than reach/halo 3/halo 2. The only halo game I feel thats as polished or more polished was Halo CE.
*Yes it is short not to mention it seems to be rarely brought up on the forums but I’m glad the levels are mostly on foot. Vehicle combat in Reach was unpleasant and it’s even more unpleasant in Halo 4. Neither of those parts were interesting. High learning curve in the former, lack of combat and substance in the latter. But yes they had some potential. Did you know that you can get in the Pelican’s top turret and side turrets in Spartan Ops (I tested on Hacksaw)? I think there might be an on-rails shooting (hopefully not forced) SO level someday.
*Agreed, once the missions are completed, there’s nothing else much to do other than replay your favorite levels. I only have like 2 favorites: Hacksaw and Hunting Trip
The game is alright. The campaign was ok. It felt very linear. You can’t tackle things differently. I miss the epic
Music from the bungie days. The multiplayer custom filters were very good. No score in campaign does not make me happy. It makes playing the single player game even more boring. I love the story but I don’t want it to be shoved down my throat. the multiplayer is very good but we need forged maps to appear I am really sick and tired of playing Ragnorak over and over and over. My main beef is that spartan ops is considered a substitute for firefight. I loved firefight In ODST. It was amazing the Prometheans are cool but they seemed so lame compared to the brutes.
343 just bring back firefight / custom map options / race / campaign score and we be cool as I know you have big shoes to fill. Don’t go all call of duty on me!
