I’m not the only one wondering this but, what do you guys think is going to happen in Halo 4. I mean there’s no war, Elites are allies, Prophets are dead, and the Gravemind is dead as well. Whats going to be the “Grand Scheme” of things in Halo 4. All i have is more information on John 117 (Master Chief) past, or the Forerunners. i’m interested on what people have to say on this matter and we’ll find out next year.
I believe there is more than one Gravemind, the Gravemind (correct me if Im wrong) was a collective consciousness of the Flood infection that formed once a “colony” of Flood became large enough. I always got the impression that there were more than one infection colonies which would suggest more than one “Gravemind entity.”
And not all the Prophets are dead, not their alliances with the Jiralhanae, Ungoy etc. There is still a Covenant, the Elites simply dont belong to them anymore, which makes them a wild card. As the story “The Return” suggests, the pursuit of Forerunner technology is still a profound aspect of the Sanghelli world view.
And now humanity knows about the Forerunners, what is their reaction? Do they start searching the cosmos for artifacts?
And then there are the Foreunners, there are a lot of indications that they arent truly dead, nor were they all good.
And still about 10 Halo rings floating around out there. A lot more storytelling to be done, even front the boots on the ground.

the gravemind as said in the above post is formed from a collective consciousness of flood hosts/food, there is still flood on the other 9 or so halo rings left that could easily break out agaain plus the planet the chief is heading to is a forerunner shield world so its possible that there is flood contained/loose there to.
-
there are covenant remnants(loyalists) and the prophets we saw die were the ‘in charge’ ones, in the halo 2 opening cutscenes we can clearly see there are more of the prophets race meaning there might be new prophets leading the covenant remnants.
-
this may shed light on the forerunners, the flood and alot of the halo universe, who knows we might meet a forerunner in stasis or perhaps another moniter like mendicant or offensive bias? which means maybe sentinels and those similar to them will be our enemies.
-
some events may have happened back at the unsc and elite alliance that may mean an entirely new game after 4, 5 and 6.
-
if you want to see what new plots can be added to the halo universe just read the books or check out the fanfictions, its all there.
There’s still a lot left to explore concerning the Flood. Unlike about the Covenant, we learnt next to nothing about the Flood in H:CE, H2, and H3. All we do know is that they’re hundreds of millenia old, originate from a different galaxy, and - unlike any other known parasite - eventually develop an obviously highly intelligent “leader” that coordinates and directs the Flood, i.e. the Gravemind. And that’s it.
What I find interesting is that there actually is a Gravemind. Why would a parasitic organism need something like that if there weren’t additional motivations besides taking over and assimilating all life? Maybe what we’ve seen of the Flood so far is only “phase 1” of whatever they’re ultimately trying to accomplish.
I bet we see more with Mendicant Bias. He is the one, after all, that reached out to the Chief in Halo 3. “Facing a new evil” and speak of the chief’s “Destiny” definitely has me thinking that Bias is somehow involved in Halo 4 in a big way. Not to mention they’re adding terminals to Halo CEA.
Mendicant Bias was always a character I longed to know more about. I hope we get to know more about him in Halo 4.
Halo 4 is said to be the beginning of new Trilogy. So I would expect that the Covenant is not the threat in this one. The Brutes may have broken away and be some kind of threat. But I expect something new.
I’m kind of hoping that MC will meet up with the Spirit of Fire so there is some form of Human interaction and so that it will allow 4 player Co-op as Spartans.
Im generally concerned over this as well. I would hate for them to throw something into the story that didnt make sense or seemed to far fetch. I for one don’t want to be fighting anything but the covenant or the flood in a halo game.

The Humans and Elites are in a alliance so whats left for the covenant. grunts, jackels they’re not much of a threat. and as for the flood it’ll be cool if the had other flood creatures besides humans and covenants. i’m curtain the brutes will not be back be cause they have extremely dishonored their race.

Prophets: They probably won’t be much of a threat.
Brutes: Possibly the main antagonists in Halo 4.
Jackals: They’re too money minded to take sides now that the war’s over.
Grunts: Not likely they’d want to rejoin the Covenant now that they’ve got a chance for freedom.
Flood: Most likely they’d return. I doubt the Master Chief finished them off permanently.

Prophets: The main population was on High Charity, so there’s probably less than 1,000 (one thousand) left alive scattered on other former Covenant outposts, ships, and other installations. Note: The “less than 1,000” part is a quote from the Beastarium on Waypoint.
Brutes: They’ve vengeful and rather savage, might be itching to settle the score to “restore their honor” for having been beating in H3, and maybe still cling to the believe of the Great Journey. Although in my opinion, that’s mainly a problem for the rest of mankind and the Covenant Seperatists and not so much for Master Chief.
Jackals: They’re basically mercenaries, so whoever pays best can hire their services. Could be the Brutes.
Grunts: Those who didn’t have an opportunity to join the Seperatists could still be pressed into service by the Brutes.
Flood: That’s what my money’s on. There still are six Halo rings with contained Flood and probably a number of other installations as well. I’d actually be quite surprised if we didn’t stumble across Flood at one point or another.
Well there is the fact that they confirmed there is a new threat, so…

I just hope 343i don’t pull another technologially superior alien race out of the hat willy-nilly. If they do, they have to come up with a very good explanation why these aliens weren’t mentioned before yet because I think it’s quite unlikely that such a race didn’t have any contact with the Covenant or the Forerunner yet.
The Covenant is in the game!
