My name is Trevor and I am a recent graduate of Butler University. For me and two others senior capstone project, we decided to create a live-action trailer for Halo 4.
All costumes, effects, and production were done by the three of us in a span of 5 months. The Master Chief suit (not including the helmet) was made in 5 days.
We would love for you to check it out! I understand it’s not perfect, but please remember there were only three of us deeply involved, and began production before most of the information about Halo 4 had been released. Thanks =)
Very awesome work!!! I really like the camera angle at 2:04 with the sun beam shining through. Adds to the dramatic feel to the whole video. Keep up the good work!!!
Yeah, when we started planning the trailer, there was no information on the new enemies, so we just did the best we could do and use the Covenant as our bad guys =)
> Thanks guys! Glad you liked it!

good guess because looks like we will be fighting them again
nice it looks sweet man hope it can last longer than helljumper because I am looking forward to your film. post this on the front page dude so more people can see it
Looks great honestly, I’m excited to see what the finished product ends up looking like. I’m sure its a handful to design things from scratch like that and you did it really well honestly. Some people dont seem to understand you were trying to give a more human touch to John, letting him come to late to save the ODST’s and seeing that the covenant have returned and more blood has been shed gives the vid a great feeling. The sun beaming down against his armor is also great, gives him a really superman like appearance.
So I think you did a great job, I cant wait to see how you end up handling the Infantry, but the banshees really looked great and high quality.
Thanks everyone for the feedback! If possible please show your friends =)
@SilentRaine, I’m really glad you saw the direction we intended with the trailer. 343i has said numerous times how this trilogy will focus on MC’s back story and more emotion, thus, it was something we wanted to convey in the piece. It was also one of the few things we did know about Halo 4, haha!
Master Chief was often looked at as the ‘savior’ for winning the war, and even for a super human, that has to be a lot of weight to carry. We wanted to show that MC isn’t able to save everyone as he is expected to, because he is only one man. A man that is strong enough, however, to carry on the fight after walking in the aftermath of a violent battlefield. You mention the ‘superman’ look of the last shot: an image he must once again embrace to fight off the next enemy threat.
I can’t wait to play H4 just to see how much 343i explores the Chief as a character. =)
I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again here. I love this short, and I really think it does a great job showing how great direction and camera work can make for a great live action piece even when you might be a bit rushed and limited on the graphics/prop side of things (which still look amazing considering the time frame, budget, and 3 man crew).
If you ever have another great film idea like this and want to make the trip out to California, I’m sure our prop makers and crew would love to help you make another short. =)
Are you planning to attend any cons like PAX, RTX, or ComicCon by chance?
