Halo 4 enemy AI

So, for ppl who already have halo 4, how’s the enemy AI when comparing to other halos?

Not really that good. Since they’ve taken away AAs from the Covenant they merely shoot at you. I can’t remember a moment where they’ve actually dodged. I can only count a few moments where they’ve thrown grenades.

The Prometheans occassionally use their AAs, but there’s no thought into when they do it. They sometimes drop a drone when they see you, or when they die and the drone dies with them. They have the ability to teleport but there’s no thought into that either. Sometimes they teleport and run back to where they teleported from.

Well that’s kinda sad to hear : / had high exceptions

Well, they don’t have down’s syndrome anymore… or at least I haven’t noticed yet.

I’m currently sipping a cup of tea that I went and made when I realized that the enemy doesn’t actually advance on your position unless you are really close. I’m almost in AR range, just standing here having a staring contest with an elite. I’ve killed all his grunt buddies but he doesn’t seem to care. Cortana keeps telling me I have to do something to save what’s left of the FUD but the covenant don’t seem to have any hostile intent.

You can almost always do this, unless the fight has you trapped in a confined space you can go back 20m and all is forgiven. There is no sense of urgency or danger and without it I may as well be playing solitaire. Space Invaders is more tense.

I couldn’t care less about any of the characters because the game constantly reminds you that it’s a game. Within 5 minutes of meeting the Prometheans you know how to fight them and they have absolutely no characterization.

tldr: The AI doesn’t seem hostile and there is no fun in fighting robots

PS. Playing on legendary

I found the AI in campaign fairly predictable and knights were basically bullet sponges on even heroic.

However I noticed a marked improvement of the AI in spartan ops. It seems there may be some more resources or console horsepower dedicated to AI in spartan ops. Campaign probably has so much going on that the AI resources are limited.

I found spartan ops AI chasing me down, flanking, combining tactics and even an elite who went a level underneath and then came up some stairs behind me for a on my six flank.

Far more interesting AI in spartan ops it seems.

I expect far more AI intelligence in Halo 5 and a new next generation console. I also expect far less bullet sponge and cheap tricks for difficulty in Halo 5.

For what the 360 console can do I think the campaign had resources spent in the right parts and spartan ops highlights this with improved AI.

-Well 343 do have to consider safe zones. It wouldn’t be right if the enemies constantly swarmed you not to mention it’d take away the feel of campaign, which is distinct from firefight. I’m glad 343 haven’t completely tossed balancing aside.

-I find that hard to believe, most Elites should be firing in that range.

-That’s always been the case but yes, 343 should have implemented new reactions. It’s surprising how often Brutes can be more convincing: I’m referring to Halo 2 Brutes obviously but there was one Brute on Sierra 117 who berserked over a Grunt and killing the Chieftain on The Ark was one thing that could get the Jump Pack Brutes to engage you. The Elites in Cairo Station’s bomb room swarm you if you kill the dual wielders. But that’s about it really.

-There was no sense of urgency on PoA or Cairo Station either. It wouldn’t be right if they put in a timer or killed you on the spot for not leaving the ship soon enough. You’re just nitpicking in this case. Yet including a timer near the end of Dawn would have been a good idea.

-I disagree.

Too bad Spartan Ops has to be played online, is scaled for 4 players, and is, from what I’ve read, very short and repetitive.

This makes me think they prioritized in the wrong places.
