Halo 4 doesn't give me the feels

Does anyone else feel this way? I mean sometimes I’ll go back and listen to the soundtracks of all the other Halo games and I’ll get the biggest goosebumps and I’ll frequently even shed a manly tear or two. I mean there was just some atmosphere with the previous Halo games that Bungie was always able to provide. I’m not hating on 343, its just that when I listen to the old Halo music I’m reminded of all the great times I had. When I play Halo 4 it just doesn’t feel like Halo anymore. Is anyone besides me having this major issue?

Hmmm I dunno…I personally liked it, imo. Just not as much as the others…I still play it though. I can understand where you’re coming from. The ending was however quite depressing indeed D:

Aside from the main menu theme (which shrieks in your ear) I can’t think of a single tune or melody from the game.

The only song I can really remember from Halo 4 was that banshee on the main menu. It really didn’t fit with the tone. First impressions are everything and that music just turned me right off.

Especially if I have to turn it down.

Nostalgia is a very powerful thing.

I liked the opening theme at first, but to me it’s just a bit meh now.

I liked the music during Midnight though

While Halo 4’s music fit the situations it played in most often, I really do wish “Rock Anthem for saving the world” and/or the MJOLNIR mix could have played once or twice - maybe on the level when you get in the Pelican and start gunning stuff down… It was a really cool track, and sort of defined what Halo was for me when I was younger.

I personally love Halo 4’s soundtrack, Armour, Solace, 117, Belly of the Beast, Arrival, Green and Blue, Immaterial, Haven, Requiem, To Galaxy, Ascendency, Mantis, Revival, Aliens and Sacrifice all fit Halo perfectly, they all sound great, Ascendency fits the Prometheans well, Solace fits Halsey and the Librarian, Revival fits the Ur-Didact, 117 suits John, Green and Blue fits John and Cortana, Immaterial fits Cortanas rampant side, Requiem and Armour both have a mysterious feel to it, Sacrifice fits the fact that John is willing to make a one way trip to stop the Ur-Didact, Aliens sounds great while running through a Forerunner structure, the end part of Haven fits the Ancient Humans and the overall song is really nice, Belly of the Beast also feels like it fits well, you walk outside to see a giant metal planet while surrounded by Covenant ships, it gives a sense of desperation, Arrival is a “this is it, the final battle” type of song, also fits rather well as I felt either John or Cortana wasn’t going to make it out alive

Sadly, I feel it too. Halo 4 Soundtrack is not that nostalgic.

Agree.

Took the words right of my mouth, and slapped them into a post. Totally agree.

The Main Menu music doesn’t inspire me at all.

Green and Blue is a much better candidate for it

the soundtrack is to star warsy taste to it, i dont like it.

I haven’t played a Halo game yet that didn’t have a soundtrack I loved at least some excerpts from.

Halo CE had amazing tracks like Truth and Reconciliation Suite, Brothers in Arms, Under Cover of Night, Suite Autumn, On a Pale Horse, and of course Halo.

Halo 2 stepped it up a notch with Mjolnir Mix, Blow Me Away, Follow, Peril, Ghosts of Reach, Earth City, Delta Halo Suite, Sacred Icon Suite, Unyielding, Unforgotten, High Charity Suite, In Amber Clad and Heavy Price Paid.

Halo 3 gave us amazing re-imaginings of old tracks, and some new greats such as Out of Shadow, Farthest Outpost, Leonidas Returns, Follow Our Brothers, Roll Call, Never Forget, One Final Effort, and Greatest Journey.

Halo Wars treated us to some new beats, while the most memorable one is the main menu theme, there were several tracks that may not stand out (likely because I haven’t listened to the soundtrack too much), but are still spectacular.

ODST’s most memorable tracks were definitely Traffic Jam, The Menagerie, and Skyline. But pretty much the entire Night-time City suite (which is about half of the soundtrack) was amazing.

Halo Reach had a great soundtrack as well, some memorable music such as Uphill Both Ways fro the trailer, or several songs that play during Oni Sword Base, New Alexandria, The Package, the opening section of Long Night of Solace… Oh man it was nice. And a definite continuing change of pace like Wars and ODST.

Halo 4’s soundtrack also has some beautiful pieces I love to listen to, 117, Arrival, Revival, Nemesis, This Armour, and several others have definitely gotten my attention, I intend to listen to the soundtrack even more.

And I have yet to play Spartan Assault, I’m looking forward to listening to it though.

There was only one Star Wars song in the entire game… And it played for like 6 seconds once in the entire campaign…

The previous Halo trilogy’s music had a much more of a percussion and bass presence, so it felt a lot more “tough.” The new feel of the music relies more on stringed treble instruments, which is why is sounds more “Star Wars-ish” and more like a drama.

Halo 4 defenders will instantly scream “NOSTALGIA” when they see you say that.

But quite simply, they are wrong

Where was my Halo 2 “nostalgia” when enjoying Halo 3?

Where was my Halo CE “nostalgia” when I was enjoying Halo 2?

You can’t use nostalgia to explain why people just don’t feel the same love for Halo 4, that they did for previous Halo’s (often not including Halo Reach).
It’s very easy to use words such as “nostalgia” when trying to refute their reasons for disliking Halo 4.
What’s not easy, is to actually address the perfectly plausible reasons that people give for not enjoying Halo 4 to the same degree as other Halo games.
