Halo 4 - DLC Playlist Permanent?

what happened to the DLC playlist? I bought the war games pass ( I bought the pass when I picked up halo at midnight) and since then I have only played on any of the DLC maps once. I wanted to get every achievement in Halo 4 this summer but can’t since I can’t play on the DLC maps to get these achievements. I feel like I’ve been slapped in the face by my favorite game company because I’ve wasted over 125 dollars on Halo 4 alone and I think the DLC playlist should be added as a permanent playlist until the end of time.

Every DLC playlist added has ALWAYS had such a low population.

This is what the most recent DLC playlist looked like at peak times shortly after its release

With less players playing Halo 4, we should be focusing on only keeping playlists which can maintain a healthy population. Proving Ground and DLC playlists can’t manage that.

Moa I do agree with you however should have the option to.

they should have it for the people that do purchase it. how would you feel if you went and bought the map pass now hopped onto play and play weeks with out getting one DLC map?? kinda ripped off. I haven’t played shatter or the other two majestic maps EVER!

game types like multi team that had a higher population than others was removed yet why??

I actually own the War Games Map Pass (and the Champions Bundle) and while the situation with DLC isn’t ideal, I’d prefer it if they focused on adding playlists which will be active and thriving.

I would love to see DLC on the rotational playlists a LOT more often though, once every few months is pretty bad in my opinion. At least once a month would be ideal.

In future titles, you should be able to search for games and have an option to guarantee matching with other DLC owners.

@Moa You also have all of the DLC achievements (:

How does that preclude someone from pointing out that DLC playlists have historically had a bad population?

Playlists with low population in an already small game population really don’t mix.

I also wish it was still here or showed up more frequently, but 343i need to sustain the population until Halo: MCC

So…Who cares? At least those of us that had the maps had the option to play it when we could. Who really cares if the population is low? As long as I am able to play the maps does really matter?

I hate how it’s always brought up that the DLC playlist has a low population because we are talking about premium content! It is not an excuse to get rid of the playlist because we paid extra for the content.

At this point in Halo 4’s lifespan, they shouldn’t be adding more playlists to the game which have 200 or less players - which DLC playlists always do.

Not only will matchmaking take a long time to find other players, but when you finally do, you could end up with laggy games, extremely mixed skill levels and ultimately a bad experience for everyone.

This point in Halo 4’s lifespan? It ends in November. At this point it’s about giving the players that still play what they want, not about ignoring them. Again, if we paid for these maps, who cares if the population is less than 200 players?

I agree, Halo 5 should have some sort of system in place to filter searches for DLC maps. But right now it’s about trying to make the best of a bad situation. And being able to play these maps in at least a semi-competative form is what needs to be done. It’s about a privalege for the gamers, not about an ideal matchmaking scenario.

Even with 100 players online, it’s not like it’s impossible to find a match. I do it all the time. In a 4v4 game it’s not that hard. Can it take a little longer? Sure. But at least I’m playing these maps.

Laggy games and uncompetative matches are not an excuse. It really isn’t that terrible and if you think it is, you must have some bad luck. And even if these issues were happening, who cares? I paid good money for these maps and should have the right to play them.

We can agree that 4v4 is better, but when a DLC playlist rolls around with 6v6 or 8v8 for Crimson and Castle - you’re gonna have long wait times which still doesn’t guarantee a decent match.

I’d prefer it if a permanent playlist slot was being used by a playlist a lot of people like. Take Heavies for example - it was wildly successful as a rotational playlist, twice if I’m not mistake. So 343 took it, made it permanent and it’s remained in the Top 5 ever since.

Every DLC playlist in the past year has always ended up in the bottom 3.

Personally I would happily put up with all of the above (waiting times etc.) if it meant I could play the cotnent I have recently purchased.

What I would call a bad experience is being totally ripped off.

> Most people don’t care about how populated a playlist is, but 343 do - they have to ensure a decent matchmaking experience which means games are found fast and lag is minimal. Again, normally I would agree with you that you want a playlist as competative as possible. But this is paid content. At this point I am willing to sacrifice the quality of a match in order to still play these maps - not just because I payed for them. But because they are some of the coolest maps Halo 4 has to offer.

> It is an excuse though. You don’t want to play laggy games, simple as that. If you deny this, you’re lying to yourself. When the population is only 200 (or 100 like you stated), you’re going to run in a lot of games which have lag or uneven matchups.

Don’t put words in my mouth. I do NOT care if a game has some lag in it and I do not care if the population is low. And I am not the only one. Around 10,000 players a day play Halo 3 (meaning there maybe 3000 players on at one time). Much of the time the population for those playlists says “0”. While it’s definitely not zero, it’s pretty damn close and people STILL continue to play those maps and gametypes.

What I’m getting at is it’s not all about the quality of the game, it’s about being able to play the content. There come’s a time in a games life cycle where it’s not all about quality and some of that quality has to be sacrificed in order to play the content. You can argue that this time has not come yet in Halo 4 and I respect that. However, I believe that with DLC PLAYERS IT HAS because its players are so far and few. Instead of neglecting DLC players, we should be provided that DLC.

> We can agree that 4v4 is better, but when a DLC playlist rolls around with 6v6 or 8v8 for Crimson and Castle - you’re gonna have long wait times which still doesn’t guarantee a decent match.

Again, it’s not about the quality of the match. It’s about being able to play. That’s why I still play Halo 3 BTB and I’m not the only one. It’s about having the option to play the great maps, not about quality games. And again, I’m not the only one. A good compromise is a 6v6/5v5 playlist though that would accomadate all of the maps in some way. But maybe a 4v4 playlist like the past DLC playlist is also the way to go. We just need something!

> I’d prefer it if a permanent playlist slot was being used by a playlist a lot of people like. Take Heavies for example - it was wildly successful as a rotational playlist, twice if I’m not mistake. So 343 took it, made it permanent and it’s remained in the Top 5 ever since.

There’s not slots. There is no official maximum as to the number of playlists matchmaking can hold. Normally, it’s about creating a stable population size that allows for quality matchmaking games, which I know you are well aware of. But this is premium content. I cannot emphasize this enough.

> Every DLC playlist in the past year has always ended up in the bottom 3.

I’m aware. We are a minority. But we payed for these maps. We deserve more.

Couple side notes:

  1. I have never had a problem finding a match on Team DLC. Not once.
  2. The games are no more laggy than other H4 games.
  3. It doesn’t really affect other playlists population.
  4. Achievements are attached to the DLC, and are map specific (aka boosting promoted if no options to play purchased content)
  5. I’ve personally never seen the population under 200.
  6. If consolidation is a concern… Proving grounds…
5,276) If you don’t want to play the playlist, don’t, that is 100% fine.

I’m glad that some people can see past the whole population rhetoric that apparently is so dangerous.

I’m one of the many people who bought the War Games map pass and Bullseye packs for two reasons:

  1. I’d like to play some new maps
  2. I’d like to unlock all of the remaining achievements (which for me are all in the DLC)

So I’m as disappointed as anybody to find there really seems to be no way to do this (unless you have the incredible good fortune to have a lobby full of people who own DLC). And I understand that re-instating the DLC only playlist doesn’t work for 343 because of the low population so how about this… GIVE AWAY THE MAPS FOR FREE. If everybody has to download the DLC then there’s no need for a specific playlist and the DLC maps will fall into the natural roation. If one of the other posts is correct then Halo 4 on-line disappears in November so there’s not long left to shamelessly take more cash from people who’ll never see the maps they paid for.

I personally feel completely ripped off that these maps are even for sale anyway so if anybody is losing money it’s the paying public. I’m hoping Microsoft/343 will see their way to make these free and do something good for us gamers out there.

If giving away the DLC for free really sticks in the throat then can you make the achievements unlockable on non-DLC maps please. Most of them are pretty basic “kill someone who has been shot from a man-cannon” type of affairs so any map will do. At least I’ll be able to do 2) if I can’t do 1).

I completely agree with this. I wouldn’t complain that others are getting for free what i had to pay for. I would just be happy to actually play the DLC maps.

The DLC will never be free since Microsoft has a policy in place that makes any DLC that has tied achievements (i.e adds extra achievements to the game) unable to be made free. It can go on sale and be discounted, but will not be free. Some games are exceptions to this (all of Gears of War 1’s DLC is free, and some for Red Dead Redemption), but this is due to DLC being made free before the policy took effect or the developers reached some sort of agreement with Microsoft and the publishers. Since Halo 4’s DLC adds achievements then I’m afraid it will never be free.

I was wondering about this too. I keep playing on the same maps over and over again. It’s dumb that all the maps don’t have all the game modes on them and that Halo servers don’t do the playlist better. I bought Map pack 1 and played on them a long time ago, but now I can’t. I also bought Map pack 2, but I have never ever played on these maps online, only locally. Some of the maps are very nice and I would love to play on them. I don’t think it’s even possible for any DLC maps to pop-up in any regular online lobby, even if everyone had them.

They should keep them up regardless. I played them all the time last year.
