Halo wars’s Cut scenes was CG, Halo wars is the only Halo title that uses pre-rendered CG cut scenes, all cut scenes in other Halo titles are done in game, which for a first person shooter, is good, because it’s using the same maps, models, textures, sounds, lighting, and placements as in game, a good cut scene for a game is one that seamlessly goes from game play, to cut scene, back to game play, with out changing a thing, every thing looks the same from start to finish. If you blow up a vehicle that is going to be seen in the cut scene, it should be blown up in the cut scene, and it should be blown up when you finish the cut scene. In game cut scenes like Halos show what the engine can do. CG cut scenes like Halo wars’s may be “sick” but that’s just the cut scenes, if you can have a game that has in game cut scenes look as good as those in Halo wars, then that will put those in Halo wars to shame.

i see and yes they would!
As stealth said, Core Halo games will unlikely ever see CG-ed cutscenes, which I am happy about. This all said, I have been a firm believer that Bungie/MS/343i should contract Blur out to do a full length CG Halo movie. I feel anything with real actors will seem to clunky and goofy; I imagine Starship Troopers essentially. But a very well done CG movie, the likes of Blur’s quality, would be optimal.

Agreed. I would love for them to do one base don Contact Harvest, They can bring back Sgt. Johnson’s voice actor, and the film would make an awesome lead in to Halo Wars. Heck, maybe Sgt. Forge could even get a quick cameo appearance somewhere in the film.
Action-wise, yes I would like to see Master Chief kicking -Yoink-, or like Tex during the CG scenes in RvB. Or the whole gang of freelancers in Season 9. But I would prefer that they used in-game graphics. For reasons similar to Stealth’s.

I do agree that 343i should make a full length CG Halo Movie, it would be cool. I do disagree that real actors seem too clunky and goofy, there are sci fi movies out there that still look epic, even with real actors, like Green Lantern, Tron, and Avatar, those two movies had real actors in them, but they wasn’t clunky, special effects have come along way, and if they do a Halo movie, they’d have to talk to the guys who did the Halo 3 live action videos, they did a good job at those. Also, StarShip Troopers was 100% clunky, every thing in those movies was clunky, the ships, armor, and weapons.

IDK. I would prefer live action, and live action wouldnt have to restict too much of what the movie is capable of. Look at Avatar. That was onc of the best modern movies in the past couple years and the CGI-live action combination was incredible.
And honestly when I think of a CGI movie, I think of a straight to dvd movie like the resident evil and final fantasy CGI films. Or Dead Space.
Or Halo Legends.
The point is that if a halo movie were to happen it should receive the same high quality touch as other AAA sci fi movies like Avatar, 2001, Alien, Tron, some marvel/DC movies, War of the Worlds, Star wars (before Lucas milked the life out of it), etc.
I’d prefer to have real-time engine powered custcenes. CGI would just remove me from the game.
> CGI would just remove me from the game.
I agree, the only time CG cut scenes don’t make me feel removed from the game, are in RTS games, but even some RTS games don’t use CG cut scenes, like Star Craft 2, in Star Craft 1, they used CG cut scenes, Star Craft 2, they used in game graphics, and yet, if you have a good computer like me, they are up to par with CG cut scenes.
Edit; WOOT! 1000th post, LOL.

Yeah I hate watching a CG cutscene and then being thrust back in to a game with lower resolution.
It would be like watching a cuscene in the Reach engine and then when the game play started you where back in Halo CE 2001!
I prefer it to be like Reach’s cutscenes(minus the massive amount of shots featuring the rear-end, unless i’m playing as a female of course XD) where the camera was almost like it was handheld.
No. The cutscenes are the only Halo tradition not broken by any Halo game (that includes Reach) as of yet. They use in-game assets. They take place within the level. And the characters used to have collision.
The only thing that H4 cutscenes need is to stop deleting AI. That’s what made CE cutscenes so great. It rewarded toiling after AI collections. You could have enemies attacking Master Chief and other characters. This was absent in H2.
In H3, there’s only 2 cutscenes that have active enemy AI:
-this: you can get a Hunter in it. If you bring Arbiter along, they’ll fight each other (a first time thing in Halo cutscenes). You can also get an Elite up there (notice how the Elite’s shield flares up for a sec and how the broken glass moves the Elite)
-Auto-Turrets attack Johnson, Master Chief, and Arbiter on the last level
I don’t know about Reach or ODST but it’s probably the same thing as H3.

Halo Wars is a Halo game.
Most cutscenes use the in-game engine, Halo Wars couldnt because it was an RTS and the models dont look too great close up. Id imagine that the CG cutscenes in Halo Wars cost Ensemble a lot of money too

Read my statement about StarCraft 2, in StarCraft 2, the cut scenes use in game graphics, and guess what, it’s an RTS. Halo Wars used CG cut scenes because Ensemble wasn’t trying out.
I’d like to see cutscenes with Red vs Blue-like action, Halo 2-like storytelling, and Halo Wars-like graphics.
