Bungie had a Halo Reach emblem contest witch can be found here(also below). The contest was open to the community and anyone else who wanted to enter. It’s not surprise it was a huge hit. I don’t know the exact number of graphics submitted but I can only assume they had their hands full.

CRAZY IDEA!
I’ve had this crazy idea for about four months now. What if 343 was to add a new “Custom Emblem” from the community every season(Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter)? Lets say one community emblem and one staff emblem that are both voted on by the community.
Submissions and Voting:
Submissions will be sent to 343 and they will check authenticity and approval of each one. After the deadline is reached, 343 will create a thread once a week with ‘X’ number of submissions in accordance to the seasons*(in other words, if there are 6 weeks until the start of Fall, there will be 6 threads)*. Each member will have the ability to vote one time each week(the votes and submissions will be anonymous). At the end of the season, 343 will create two threads. The first thread will be the final ‘X’ number of community submitted emblems and the 343 staff submissions.
Each member will have the ability to vote in the form of a poll vote. Each week he/she will vote for their favorite emblem. Again the voting and submission information will be hidden. The reason for this is so the popular member doesn’t win or influence others to vote one way. Staff can vote but only once
