Well I was on Halo Wiki and it seems alot of people are convinced that the Elites, Grunts and Jackals in this game are all sub-species. Really? Unless I missed a 343 tweet or interview I don’t understand why people can look at Halo Reach Grunts/Elites and say that those in 4 are all biologically different. The Jackal argument holds only a little weight since they are known to be diverse. Especially with Forward Unto Dawn showing this is how the Covies look now and the intro where you see the same Elites, why do people not understand its a new artwork design?
The Covenant in Halo 4 aren’t subspecies. They’re part of a highly religious splinter faction of the Covenant called “The Storm.”
A lot of people can’t accept when something they’ve come to know so well gets changed, so they pretty much fabricate an idea that what they’re seeing is just an entirely different thing. We learned this when it came to the Master Chief’s armor, people swore up and down it was either changed by nanobots, or Cortana, or both while he was in cryo, even though those theories have little to no weight behind them, especially because Cortana said she only changed his firmware (which is NOTHING physical).
I say, just let them believe what they want, as long as we’re all happy.

The “It was nanobots” answer was provided by Frank O’Connor himself, you know. The Halo 4 Prologue isn’t canon when it comes to appearances (just like most novel’s cover art or Halo Legends The Duel).
Halo Wiki is not too reliable when it comes to details like that.
Hate to be this guy, but technically we fight a Covenant remnant. They aren’t actually called “The Storm”. That was just an innaccurate article.

Don’t know why 343i can’t just make an effort to make sure things are canonical. Legends I can understand as it was done by Japanese anime studios, but 343i are the holders of the Halo franchise, they shouldn’t need artistic licensing.
Slight changes in the appearance of the creatures were simply artistic. Many people aren’t satisfied with that and want to claim they’re different.

Yeah, I guess it was so new people to the Halo universe wouldn’t be confused or something.

Wouldn’t be the first thing he said that he went back on, I’m going to believe the epilogue video over something he said a long, long time ago.

At the expense of causing some issues with established lore. Nice trade off I guess.

I like to think of the sequences displayed in the Prologue as being interpreted exclusively by Halsey. Kind of similar to Cortana’s interpretation of the history of the galaxy in Halo Legends’ Origins. Through these methods of storytelling, 343i are able to alter some assets and events in the cinematic to their own whims.
John’s Halo 4 armour is the same armour he’s had since Halo 2.
It is simply 343i’s new art direction.

Yep. Well, I just try to ignore the wrong armor set when watching it lol
I had expected them to put Spartans with Mark IV (modified or not, like in Forward Unto Dawn) or Prototype Mark V like Reach… but nope…

But why is that necessary?

Stated by Frankie that it’s been modified by nanobots on-board Forward Unto Dawn… also, how would you explain the Mark VI armor for multiplayer if it never existed in this new canon?
> The “It was nanobots” answer was provided by Frank O’Connor himself, you know. The Halo 4 Prologue isn’t canon when it comes to appearances (just like most novel’s cover art or Halo Legends The Duel).
No one ever seems to be able to provide a source for that though, (I don’t mean that disrespectfully, by the way). I’ve only heard the “cortana special” armor thing and even that doesn’t hold much weight IMO mainly because there’s just no possible way for her to alter his suit while he’s in cryo, even with nanobots, they’re for repairs. He still has the gaping scar on his chest plate, most of the forms are just geometrically different, like his shoulder pieces? I can’t believe that nanobots are able to work at a molecular to atomic level just transform one thing into something else with no real benefit. Same goes for his differently shaped helmet.
It just doesn’t add up. Maybe his armor is customized by cortana, but the only way I can see that being even remotely true is if she customized it for him right before he got it in Halo 2, and what he’s been wearing the whole time is the same suit of armor.
And yes, the original Mark VI is in multiplayer (I know someone is going to say it) but I believe that’s just a nod to the original series and ONLY that, and probably the only thing that isn’t technically “canon” in the multiplayer.
> Hate to be this guy, but technically we fight a Covenant remnant. They aren’t actually called “The Storm”. That was just an innaccurate article.
actualy… no
the storm are infact the storm
they are called that in the book, 343 even said that was their name
as for why they are different no one knows
343 even tho they promised to give a canonical reason for the changes never did. s its your guess.
Thanks for the replies everyone. Although everyone has the right to headcannon what they want, people that need info on Halo mostly go to the Wiki as a quick and easy reference and will get confused.
