Halo 4 could have got better reviews

If 343 had Halo 4 as their first game instead of Halo CEA they would have gotten better reviews. People might disagree but we know its true and people wouldnt expect so much from their first game and could have gotten better reviews. 343 better make a good Halo game when Halo 5 releases.

It would have recieved the same reviews, as magazines always write good reviews for AAA games…

If you mean player reviews, it wouldn’t be any better off. “It’s their first game” is a lame excuse, regardless if they worked on CEA or not.

It’s their first game is the worst excuse ever, they built it off reach, had an extra year of development, had a bigger team than bungie and ms was touting they are all industry veterans. Veterans meaning not their first game, far from it actually.

Well, you have to remember that most game review companies are paid to give good reviews of games…

I don’t get why people even trust game reviews anymore.

Just play the game yourself. Your opinion should be what matters.

Halo 4 got incredible reviews, but it’s probably the worst Halo game to date (population wise). 6 months or so after the game released, there were only 35,000 players daily, which is terrible for a Halo game, but 343 is trying to make the game better.

And releasing Halo 4 first wouldn’t have really changed a single thing. CEA gave 343 a good reputation right off the bat. Seriously, they were thinking of remaking Halo CE with Reach mechanics and everything, but they decided to stick with the original game just with better graphics, a smart move that won them supporters.

Releasing Halo 4 first would’ve probably had some doubts about CEA, which would be been ridiculous, but you know this community.

I still think that 343 withholds that reputation as they’re realizing their mistakes and actively fixing them. Bungie didn’t do anything major with Reach. They only added Alpha Zombie and select other Custom Games. Nothing with balance or bloom or anything. That was all 343.

I believe that Halo 5 will improve a lot of issues. 343 has learned a lot from Halo 4, their first real game.

But Halo 4 was 343’s first game…

Bungie made Halo 1 and all the graphical upgrades were done by saber interactive.

I think the only thing 343 did was the terminals, they didn’t even do the multiplayer on it, certain affinity did that.

They didn’t have a very big team til very late in the development time. They began making Halo 4 with 9 people (I think) and built the studio along the way. This also means the “extra year” thing also doesn’t qualify as they likely didn’t do much with such a small team.

“It’s there first game” is definitely not a good excuse, but it’s definitely understandable that they managed to screw things up along the way because this is a Halo game- which means they have to work on Campaign, MM, Customs, Forge, Theater and the overwhelming Spartan Ops. In the end, things got cut and plans failed. They tried juggling all these different aspects of Halo in one small studio (with horrible pressure from the community).

Is this a valid excuse? No, but we should be more sympathetic and more hopeful. Halo 5 is not 343i’s first game, they have a giant team, next generation hardware and most importantly a -Yoink–ton of feedback. Halo 5 will be much better, no doubt, and hopefully it ends up being the best Halo game to date (it’s still possible).
