Halo 4 Cortana

So we all know Cortana went rampant between and during halo 3 and 4. But the thing is if you watch halo 4 forward unto dawn, at the beginning she says, “For 4 years, all I have done, is think” later she says “Thinking is what’s killing you”. I’m not sure if this movie was canon, but rampancy is just AI’s thinking themselves to death right??. So if Cortana actually had tasks, or something to do while chief was in cryo, could she have lasted longer before she went rampant. Also if chief didn’t leave her with the gravemind, could she have lived longer?? I think 343 did do something kinda interesting when they killed her, but come on, everybody loves Cortana right?? So I was just thinking up possible ways for her to survive.

She did have tasks to do. At the beginning of Halo 4 she tells the Chief that she upgraded his suits firmware while he was asleep. A smart AI such as Cortana only has a lifespan of seven years. She would have gone rampant regardless. Even if it was a simple matter of doing things to distract herself from thinking, she still has to think about the tasks she is doing, otherwise she would get them wrong.

Well not exactly, i love the Chief and it looks like he loves her so if he wants her to come back i want her to come back.

Im not sure about that an IA is always thinking in something
But im quite sure it was a BIG mistake to leave her with gravemind.

There are protocols to destroy an AI before it is in the hands of the enemy, as well as a Spartan II. In this case it was not only a simple IA and it was not only a simple enemy.

Also and it’s a fact: Artificial intelligences CAN be infected by the flood, just as happened to 5-032 Mendicant Bias the most advanced Forerunner AI at the time of his creation: Gravemind turn him against forerunner. That’s why the covenant (Who praise the forerunners as gods) doesn’t have any AI.

There’s a speculation that Cortana is infected and that is why she does all of that in Halo 5, but since she was separated into so many parts in the fight against the didact, I think that all that was lost and it is no longer a valid theory.

I don’t think Mendicant Bias was infected per se, just that the Gravemind is very convincing. So the practical difference is probably non-existent.

I never really thought about it but you make a good point about Chief leaving Cortana on High Charity. That’s got to be a huge breach of protocol. Although the Covenant already found Earth so technically it’s probably not against the Cole Protocol, but we didn’t want The Flood to find Earth either so it was still a big no-no.

This isn’t strictly speaking true. When the survivors of Alpha Halo board and capture a Covenant ship, Cortana encounters another AI within the ships system that works against her. It annoys her to the point where she strips it apart, layer by layer, code by code, destroying it.

If you had read the book then you may know at that part the Chief travel back in time, because it was a copy of cortana programmed by herself to have errors and thus be rendered useless by the covenant, that’s why Cortana felt so familiar with that suppossed covenant AI. Even when they stopped using that ship cortana says that she is going to do that (Not travel in time, create a copy of it but with errors).
Yeah, i read that book.
And yeah, i can assure that the covenant never created an AI and i will explain it:
Mendicant Bias after betrayed the forerunners during the war Flood-Forerunner felt so guilty for that, so he wanted to send some forerunner technology to the humans to compense his fault, but of course that technology never arrived to the humans, instead that technology arrived to the San’Shyuum (The prophets) and they thought it was a gift from the gods and with that technology, so they created the covenant, they “recruited” different species and one of those species was the Mgalekgolo (The hunter) who in his worm form can reach more forerunner technology for the prophets, in this time they discover that the forerunners left a warning about not to create artificial intelligences so as his loyal followers asked no questions and heeded the warning.

When did the Chief travel back in time? The crystal made them jump forward in time at one point, causing them to arrive at their destination a week earlier than they planned, but I don’t ever remember them jumping back in time.

The crystal was still on Reach when Cortana had found the Covenant AI, anyway.

Sorry i edit my post too late to explain the covenant AI sitatuation, you may want to see the post you have just reply.
But they travel in time, and the only proof is that supposed covenant AI.

Well that could be right, they only said that he turns Mendicant into rampant

But the flood already know where was the earth, that message from cortana was not there because she sent that ship to prevent the Chief, and she knows that the flood was going to the earth and the only reason she was left behind was to detonate the In Amber Clad in case that the flood would go to the earth, and it never blew it up, not even in Halo 3 when the Chief goes for her.

It just was a totally nightmare and torture for she and a lot of knowledge to the gravemind, which we could never saw it use of it, a totally pity.
