With the addition of Sprint as a universal ability, it seems some of the classic Halo controller layouts have changed.
Here are the latest, but yet to be confirmed final Halo 4 controller layouts.
I personally have been using bumper jumper for years, and after the Razer Onza controller came out I began using its remappable bumpers to overcome some on the layouts disadvantages, such as X for use of AA (Mostly difficult to use with jetpack). It seems in Halo 4 they switched X and LT, which creates its own problems. For instance, throwing grenades accurately could be very difficult, since you’d have to remove your thumb of your aiming stick to toss a nade. I do understand the up side, being that AAs in need a botton throttling (like jetpack) will be much more manageable in this loadout. Personally, I plan on purchasing a Scuf controller, mostly for the paddles, to overcome some of these new layout disadvantages. I’m just awaiting word from 343 that these current layouts are finalized, because I’d hate to buy the controller with the paddle functions set and have 343 change to layouts >_<.
Until than, I’m curious what the Halo 4 community thinks about these new controller layouts.
First off welcome to the forums.
second, I’ll let you know that those control layouts are months old. These are the layouts from the early E3 build which means they had a lot of time to change. It was also confirmed that several more layouts may be added before the games release, so don’t worry on that.
As for bumper jumper, the programmers made a mistake when throwing together the E3 build. X was supposed to be AA and LT was supposed to be grenade. however this was accidentally changed right before the only publicly playable build of the game was released. This issue has been fixed for the full game.
They have Recon! I hope they keep it up! It was the original controller layout from Halo 1 to Halo 3! Therefore it is the best and they should keep it. Please and Thank you 343 industries.
That’s really nice to hear they’ve already fixed the problems form the E3 build. I just wish I knew the final bumper jumper layout!
Default looks good, I’ll probably use it if it doesn’t change.

This. I’m curious to see where they put Sprint. It’s like they ran out of buttons.
On Recon they still need to switch out sprint being “X” and the armor ability being “LB”.
Besides the X / LT mix up, Bumper Jumper looks exactly how I’d imagined it would. That’s actually exactly what I thought. Even I’m surprised.
I’m very happy about what has been done.
I also don’t see a difference between Default and Green Thumb.
EDIT: Nevermind, found it.
Recon looks great. That’s what I love about using Recon; no matter what Halo game I play, it’s always the same with only 1 or 2 button differences.
It looks like Ill be using Recon. Though, I think it would be more logical to switch X and RB. Or at least make two separate layouts, the one I’d prefer could be called classic.
Why does the new default suck so much? If I wanted to play COD I wouldn’t be playing Halo.
Im using recon.
And my thumb will rarely touch the sprint button.

Sprint is very useful on occasion but it seems that as soon as I hit the button I get capped./:
Recon does look nice, I’ll be waiting on some final confirmation on the new layouts before planning out my new controller though, I still feel changes may be made.
