I’m sure it goes without saying that Reach was perhaps the worst thing to happen to Halo’s competitive community, period. That said, why the -yoink- is 343i allowing Halo 4 to become the spiritual successor to that -Yoink- child of the Halo franchise, AKA Reach?
I’m absolutely fed up with this care-bear land paradise ruleset that 343i/Bungie have created, and forced us to abide by. I’m of course referring to the ranking systems and matchmaking structures that have been established and maintained since Sept. 14th. 2010. I think I speak for the majority of the competitive community in saying that Reach’s ranking system was solely developed and catered to the social, or “Non-competitive” populace. This “improved” ranking system in theory was developed to prevent boosting, cheating, and hurt feelings caused by the 1-50 True skill system.
From a social mindset, the new system works perfectly. No longer should you have to worry about your KDR, or wins or losses. Heck, forget about being an asset to your team entirely, as long as you “tried” and played through the match, you will always rank up. It boggles my mind to this day how people can defend a system that flawed. No longer are wins/losses a factor in rank, only the amount of time a person has played…
The fact that 343i had the -Yoink!- to incorporate this into Halo 4, and ignore the competitive community once again, blows my -Yoinking!- mind. This is the exact same concept of Reach’s ranking structure only adapted into Halo 4’s. The key difference being that this time, there are only 140 ranks. Each of them are numbered, and obtainable not by True Skill, but by “trying”. This is obviously unacceptable from a competitive stand-point, as time played does not equal skill.
All I am asking for from 343i, is recognition. After enduring three years of the same mickey mouse bull -Yoink-. The very least they could do is give us competitive guys a separate playlist, composed of gametypes that follow a more strict competitive ruleset of the pre-existing playlists. IE: snipes, mlg, ctf, etc.
This would offer us some more variety, rather than playing the same playlist, slayer pro, on the same four maps, Haven, Adrift, Abandon, Solace… Over, and over again.
Heck, why not sweeten the deal and add an in-game leader-board, or add our True Skill ranks next to our Tags whilst in the competitive playlist. We already know you plan on implementing it into Waypoint in the near future. That’d just be icing on the cake, or… just wishful thinking. Food for thought.
