Halo 4 compared with Halo 5

Whats your opinions and what is your preference?

Halo 4 had the better campaign, it’s hard to argue against that. The story was written and fleshed out really well, when Cortana spoke John actually spoke back to her instead of just remaining awkwardly silent. It felt like I was actually in a Halo novel. The addition of the Prometheans and their weapons also gave us a new, fresh experience in combat. Halo 5’s story had a choppy pace to it, and it was hard to follow especially for players who haven’t looked into Halo’s lore in other forms of media. Hunt the truth led us to believe that Master Chief has gone rogue, betrayed the UNSC, and Locke would have to hunt him down. Well, that ‘hunt’ only took up a small portion of the game. In fact, that whole story of Master Chief’s ‘betrayal’ was scrapped because all he really did was refuse return to Infinity so he could go looking for Cortana. It quickly turned into Locke rescuing chief and blue team, and that made up the rest of the game. The fact that they had one boss recycled over and over again doesn’t help either. But it was still an enjoyable campaign, as far as gameplay goes. Teaming up with the Arbiter and helping him fight in his civil war is definitely a plus They just need to make the AI spartans as good as actual human players, or just scrap them.

Halo 4’s multiplayer built off of Reach, and added custom loadouts so that players could choose more than just an armor ability. Of course, it led to people screaming that Halo was just becoming a shameless COD clone, ignoring the fact that Halo 4 still retained many elements that made it nothing like COD. All the hatred provoked 343 into making Halo 5’s multiplayer ultra competitive. My opinion probably goes against the grain, but I think that Halo 4’s multiplayer was much better than Halo 5’s. Halo 5 is just so ridiculously competitive to the point where fun and enjoyment are just sucked out of the game. It’s all about winning and I hate it. They set up Warzone so that people who don’t care about sweat-fest matches have a playlist for themselves but the sweaties have come and ruined it, with full-blown teams of 12 completely bum-rushing teams of random players and spawn trapping them for 15+ minutes. If you want to just have a relaxed game, all you have in Halo 5 is infection.

Halo 4 had loadouts with weapons, grenades, abilities, perks and whatnot and you know what? I liked it better that way. I don’t care what other people think, these custom loadouts made the game fun. Everyone starting with the exact same stuff is boring, I’d rather have loadouts so I can mix and match stuff to set up for different playstyles and strategies. But at the same time, it was still Halo. It wasn’t COD like everyone preaches, the winner didn’t boil down to whoever spotted the other first. You still had to think on your feet and outsmart your opponents to beat them, it was not a twitch shooter. But the best part of it all, it wasn’t super competitive. I could go into a BTB match and any time and I’d never have to worry about running into a sweaty 8 man team steamrolling my team, because that sort of thing just didn’t happen in Halo 4.

But those days are over. 343 has pretty much forgotten about casual play, and they’ve dedicated to making Halo 5 as competitive as possible. They tried to satisfy everyone by putting in warzone for casual play, and it worked at first. But now it’s plagued with so many problems that it’s just not worth playing.

i am a very competitive player myself but you need to have the social option in any game just for casual play. very accurate thanks for the reply.

Pretty much nailed it. I will say though that Halo 5’s single player was slightly more fun for me because of the AI improvements to the Promethians and the more intricate level design. I think I’m the only one on Earth also who really liked the Warden battles! I think Halo 4 had the superior art style and soundtrack though.

As far as multiplayer goes there’s no contest. Halo 4’s mechanics were far superior, the loadouts allowed you to play how YOU wanted to play and the map design was much, much better. What’s funny also is that despite Warzone technically being the biggest form of Halo multiplayer in player count and map size, Halo 4’s BTB and especially Heavies FELT much greater in scale and chaotic due to how the design funneled combat through all parts of each map.

Halo 4 is the best game of the series. Halo 5??? Hmm…

Halo 4 has split screen and a better story line that is why it is better.

Splitscreen IS Halo.

4 is my favorite. I don’t get why Reach population is higher. I also don’t get why Halo 4 Action Sack population is low, it’s a freakin blast.

One way to expand the audience in Halo 6 is to ditch the retarded head shot mechanic. Like this futuristic plasma shield is going to have a thin spot in the helmet…really? Why exactly? Sure, the solid visor looney would be a weak point. Stupidest part of the game, only serves to discourage casual players who haven’t played 5000 hours to learn that circus trick.

Halo 4 had a better story and more playlists than halo 5 ever has all combined.

I can’t say much about multiplayer since I don’t really play it, but my opinion is simply this: Halo 4 had the better story. We can argue about H4 introducing the armor abilities and sprint (building off of Reach’s mechanics), but when it boils down to it, the story itself was good. Sure, I am still conflicted about how I feel about the Didact, a Forerunner, being alive in the game, after I thought they all had died when the Halos were activated, but the campaign is still intriguing. Halo 5, on the other hand, feels like a Halo fanfic to me, and does not feel like a true sequel to Halo 4 - the two games may as well not even be related, the way the story drastically diverged with no warning; no hints beforehand of Guardians or AI rebellion, and so forth.

I like them both.

Halo 4 wins in the story department (and splitscreen, of course). What I do like about Halo 5’s campaign are the play spaces/set pieces whatever you call them. They’re quite fun. Seeing Sangheilios for the first time and the Arbiter again was great. But exploring Requiem in a way reminiscent of Combat Evolved (alone with Cortana, crash landed on a strange Forerunner Installation, awakening an unknown alien enemy) it was awesome.

So Halo 5’s campaign pluses go to gameplay and set pieces, namely.

Halo 4 wins hands down for narrative, visuals (Requiem is stunning), and, well, also having decent gameplay. It’s a fun campaign and a touching story. What more could you ask for?

Multiplayer:

Halo 5 all day long. It’s modern in its mechanics, it’s classic in its execution. No loadouts, perks, ordinance drops, armor abilities (not Spartan Abilities, those are things everyone has at all times), descope, no flinch, power weapons on map, power ups on maps, etc. It’s like Halo 3 in 2016.

As much as I enjoyed Halo 4’s multiplayer and stuck up for it on these forums for years and continue to do so because it’s simply a fun game, I think it was too much of a departure for the series. I still play it (MCC). I still like spawning with my Carbine and Jetpack. It’s fun. But I think after Reach and Halo 4, we were a little overdue to return to the more traditional CE-H3 style of arena gameplay and I think 343 did a great job of doing that while keeping the mechanics modern so the game doesn’t have a niche retro or vintage feel to it. I played Doom and it kinda made me sad … it was like “hey, you were 8 when you played the original in 1993, most people playing this weren’t born then, feel old yet?” lol. I’m kidding, the new Doom is awesome.

… what was my point? Right:

Halo 4: Campaign
Halo 5: Multiplayer

I prefer Halo 4 over Halo 5 because: It has more maps, more game modes. You can get armors, weapons and abilities by ranking up, not by buying them. A very intense campaign, a cooperative mode with a storyline and the graphics doesn’t look like rubber. Alos, Halo 4 is more enjoyable than Halo 5 because there’s less chance to find people that will ruin a game for you there, it’s not VERY competitive and that is good.
Now, I’m not saying I hate Halo 5, I like it. Even more with the new Warzone Firefight update…but Halo 4 is and will always be my favorite game of all time in Halo/Xbox.

Halo 5 has better gunplay, physics, and mobility. Halo 4 is superior in everything else.

H5 is an ugly game. With the exceptions of Truth, Coliseum, and Tyrant, the multiplayer maps are awful. Hideous. Contrast a Big Team map from H4 like ‘Meltdown’ with anything out of H5 and it’s so bad it’s unbelievable. H4 has beautiful environments, which is significant in a game like Halo. The atmosphere is totally off in H5 because of it.

Splitscreen. End of conversation

Halo 5 isn’t the biggest hit to its greater previous title Halo 4. But I mean, to everyone who LOVES graphics, Halo 5 is better.

Halo 4 had better customization in some ways and also had splitscreen, but halo 5 have a better multiplayer.

Halo 5 is faster, more graphically beautiful, and the game is more fluid, Halo 5 is better than Halo 4

im not reading all that for shure, halo 5 is a bit more fast paced than halo 4
