Halo 4 compared to Halo: Reach

I like both Halo 4 and Halo: Reach. I play Halo 4 almost every day because I have no life. I had Halo: Reach, but the disk broke when my dad tilted my xbox “because it was making a funny sound”

Now this description of what I do with my games really has nothing to do with my subject, other than I’ve been thinking about the things from Halo 4 I like and the things from Halo: Reach I liked.

Here is a list:

Vehicle count: Halo Reach > Halo 4
Battle mechs: Halo Reach < Halo 4
AR usefulness: Halo Reach < Halo 4
Sprint: Halo Reach < Halo 4
“Evade” type armor ability: Halo Reach > Halo 4
Armor ability balance: Halo Reach < Halo 4
Custom Games: Halo Reach >>> Halo 4
Forge ease of use: Halo Reach < Halo 4
Forge worlds: Halo Reach > Halo 4
Firefight/Spartan Ops replayability: Halo Reach > Halo 4
Firefight/Spartan Ops situation variety: Halo Reach < Halo 4
Epic vehicle battle type map: Halo Reach > Halo 4

Spartan armor customization: Halo Reach has more options for the pieces that were customizable, except for the visor color, but Halo 4 has more customizable body parts.

Loadout system: Halo reach < Halo 4
Campaign battle type variety: Halo Reach > Halo 4
Elite player use: Halo reach > Halo 4
Dominion/Invasion game type: Halo Reach > Halo 4
Special gametype on matchmaking Ex oddball: Halo Reach < Halo 4
Amount of work before max rank: Halo Reach > Halo 4

I think Halo 4 is a great game, and I love some of the steps 343 took to make everything smoother and prettier and overall easy to use, but I’ve found myself more bored more quickly by Halo 4 than I was by Halo: Reach. I feel that spartan ops should have been executed as a second campaign instead of a replacement for firefight. I also feel that there is a limited number of game types, which makes it more difficult to have a good custom game. Instead of taking things away from the previous game, 343 should have kept most of the features, and added the stuff that they did. I mean, it’s only a 60$ game, but I wish I could have gotten more bang for my buck, and would have been willing to pay a little more for some more bang.

Anyone who has taken the time to read this, feel free to comment your opinions below. Though, it’s not like I could have stopped you either way.

I think Halo 4 is the overall better game, but Reach has its strong points.

Yeah, Reach had a lot of improvements from H3 like Forge, netcode, Firefight etc. But i really didn’t like it, I have enjoyed H4 a lot more even with all the infinity settings and all of the unbalanced things like Loadouts.

Just my opinion.

Reach armor was better by a long shot

How could you say halo 4 has a better loadout system ? It lacks any balance.

The June 3 update put some distance between Halo 4 and Reach, but there are still things I miss from Reach. The armory was way better, and the commendations were built to last. Oh, and two last things… Grenade Launcher and Plasma Launcher

I never thought the day would come when I would say that Reach was by far better than another Halo game…

Can you add a poll option for “they’re both awful?”

The big difference for me is basically no lag in Halo Reach multiplayer.

About 70% of my ~1400 WarGames matches in Halo 4 are lagged by 0.5 to 5 seconds.

For Reach that number is less than 1% so far since June 2nd. Huge difference in playability.

Until the lag (which is largely awful host selection and tossing people from all over the globe into games) is dealt with in H4, Reach is my multiplayer home from now on for Halo game play.

As far as missing things I would like to see Reach’s Armour Lock in H4. That would be an alternative to people spawning with plasma grenades and Plasma Pistols (we need them scattered on the maps though). The Armour Lock is great deterrent for “Splatter Spree” ghost drivers as there are ghosts on every BTB map - except Settler (so far).

If we swapped Armour Lock for plasma grenades and Plasm Pistol Spawning, then Vehicles in BTB would have a longer survivability and use. Currently, the Wart Hog is should have it’s name changed to “Death Trap Double Kill” - except on Pro games.

And I would love to see Reach Falcon Helicopters too- but that isn’t going to happen as they aren’t in the H4 game. Playing Reach with 3 mic’d team mates in a Falcon (2 gunners and the pilot) is just too much fun on “Heavies” BTB games.

Harshly, IMO Halo Reach was one of the worst games I’ve ever played and basically killed Halo. Overall, it was a more balanced/fuller game for the sole fact that Bungie made it, but the bottom line is Reach was awful and Halo will never be the same because of that game.

Halo 4, while still bad, is a vast improvement over Reach. The issue with H4 is there are too many things missing and too much gameplay imbalance that can easily be fixed but 343 simply won’t do it.

Both games were a product of massive developer mismanagement and direction.

But, if I had to chose one, I’d chose H4.

Halo Reach was my first Halo MM experience so, I have a soft spot for Reach. However, I prefer Halo 4!

I recently played Reach, just… no. The Bloom has to be the nail in the coffin.

Halo 4 easily beats it in enjoyability.

Reach’s Custom games and armor was by far better though.

No Reach was definitely superior to Halo 4. (Bloom was a BAD idea though)

For a start loadouts were pretty balanced, it didn’t lag every other game and the graphics didn’t look plasticky like Halo 4’s sort of do…
The loadouts and balance are my main reasons as to why Halo 4 isn’t that good, followed closely by the amount of and frequency of the lag…

All in all though, Halo 2 and 3 were the best games…

P.S. To support my opinion, look at the population

Right up until Halo 4 was released, reach had a large amount of people playing it at any one time. 8 months after release, Halo 4 has very few people playing at any given time, by comparison

Enough said…

You don’t need to support an opinion with something we’ve all seen a hundred times on this forum.

Also I can’t see how you can say the Reach loadouts were balanced? Jetpack ruined map movement, armour lock was just awful and sprint gave distinct advantage over those without it.

They are equally as bad, Halo 4 has done some things better than Reach, but Reach has also done other things better than 4.

Both games have tainted the Halo franchise, and I personally think that Reach had more playability than 4 but I still wouldn’t say it was a good game.

Halo 4 but I miss de-scope :frowning:

Hands down Reach. Played the hell outa that game. I don’t care what people think I enjoyed every bit of it.

Halo 4…it’s a disgrace.

Oke, just for multiplayer.

Halo: Reach is not only my favourite game it also is pretty much the only multiplayer I really liked. I never liked multiplayer before on any game and mainly played the previous Halo games for the Campaign. But where Reach was so amazing, Halo 4 just ruined the multiplayer for me, it isn’t enjoyable at all with all the random bs…

Campaign is great for both, I really liked Reach’s direction and a Campaign with Master Chief is never bad.

Custom Games, plain and simple, in this order:

  1. Halo Reach
  2. Halo 3
  3. Halo 4

I like Reach and 4 equally to be honest, I don’t think either was bad

In many ways Halo 4 is a lot of steps behind reach. Even though reach had Armour lock, I still feel Reach is better out of the two.
