Halo 4 Compared Halo 3 From a Nice Guy

Let me get this out before you read on, I LOVE Halo 4!
Anyway, so i just decided to play a couple quick games on halo 3. I thought to myself as i played it “Hm, this was pretty cool.” and “Ugh, this was ugly.”
I love 343, and I loved Bungie also. This perspective of the two Halo games, is coming from a decent guy, who just plain loves Halo.
After playing Halo 3, I decided to type up a quick opinion thingy about the comparison of the two.
Things I liked, and didn’t like about Halo 3 compared to Halo 4.

Things I liked:

  • I liked how you actually had to pick up plasma grenades from the ground.
  • Dual Wielding
  • Quick game start ups (After loading screen, no countdown to play, you just played the game instantly after loading screen)
  • Not too many power weapons
  • No DMR spamming
  • Motion Blur

Things I didn’t like:

  • No sprint (God, if you don’t like sprint, how do you seriously miss walking around the map so slowly???)
  • Halo 3 BTB just didn’t feel like massive carnage, it just felt kind of… wimpy.
  • Not having join in progress. 1st few games of H3 played, and all of my teammates quit -_- leading the other to spawn camp the crap out of me

I might add a little more later on, but what do you guys think? I think Halo 4 is an over the top game, man 343 really did a good job. There’s just a few things I hope they take into consideration for the next game! Keep it positive everyone, no arguing or being super negative please!
Thanks for reading!

I dislike join in progress due to me joining a losing game.

I enjoy Halo 3 very much. BTB is epic, having no sprint is very awesome since the base run speed is good, and never liked Join in Progress. I excel when I have less teammates.

It will always be Halo 3 for me and Halo 4 very very very low at the bottom.

You don’t understand Halo’s game mechanics and features, and why things are like they are. I hope I can enlighten you a little bit.

Countdown.

There is a countdown after the game starts so everyone spawns at the same time. In Halo 3 the host spawns first and gets an advantage on maps like for example Vessel, where there is a race to the Over Shield.

Join in progress is a bad system.

Was it because they quit that you got spawn killed or did they quit because all of you got spawn killed? Play ranked, not Social.

It’s also very annoying to join a losing game due to JIP.

Sprint.

Guardian never felt slow, but that’s besides the point. A slow movement speed does not warrant the addition of sprint, it just means base speed needs a buff or maps need to be sized down.

In other no-sprint games like CSS, TF2, or Halo 2 walking around the map feels fine.

And Halo 3 had arguably the best BTB.

> I dislike join in progress due to me joining a losing game.

You may dislike it but your team is thankful they’re not down a player and can actually stage a comeback instead of getting destroyed. I’m so happy when people join me so I’m not alone.

All I did was play ranked. And they quit, just because they felt like it? There was no reason for them.

Good luck winning in IS when the enemy team has the lead by 20 kills when you join … Adding players will change very little, and do nothing but, give the new player(s) a free loss.

This just sounded so arrogant to me that I had to point it out. Yes sir, please show us the error of our ways through the only possibly correct interpretation you are graced to have

Obviously people have opinions and prefer what they want, but in the end there are game mechanics that creates better balance and more fairness than others. Saying that people doesn’t want an equal chance is just not right…

One up that I have for Halo 4 over Halo 3 is that players are more friendly (social wise, not gameplay wise.)

Literally, in Halo 3 I could almost never find players who respected me and each other. They always had their lips smacking at teammates included, and that was annoying, even when we win the match teammates still hated me.

> - No sprint (God, if you don’t like sprint, how do you seriously miss walking around the map so slowly???)

Because the Halo games I like playing don’t have super slow movement speeds to compensate for Sprint.

> I dislike join in progress due to me joining a losing game.

Pretty much this. I also like JiP, but only if it were optional.

Then they become instantly depressed five seconds later when that person says “Heyul knaw” and leaves.

Or at least in my experience it is. :I

I concur. Sprint should be around in some playlists, it can really feel slow on BTB maps when you’re wandering the map for what seems like 40 days only to get sniped.

As for BTB being wimply, I honestly feel like Heavies is WAY better than regular BTB slayer. More vehicles = more action, sadly Avalanche Heavies is the most common. Avalanche is a good map, but the vehicles only have one way to go and whoever wins the battle over the center pushes ahead and can Tank everyone, at least for a while.

I liked the Halo 3 BTB, owning people large scale

It was pretty rare that team mates would hate on me in Halo 3. If this happened to you quite frequently I would assume it was probably a reaction to your in game behaviour, a selfish play style perhaps. Or, if your rep shows you’ve been avoided most commonly for disruptive voice, that would do it.

Just speculation of course, but I don’t know how else to explain all this hate you say you recieved. It rarely happened to me.

Believe it or not, players move slower in Halo 4 to account for sprint. Sprint doesn’t speed up gameplay. You’re moving the same speed as you did in Halo 3, but it feels faster because you move slowly in Halo 4.

Halo 3 BTB where vehicles matter > Halo 4 DMR fest. Sorry, but vehicles are worthless now and the BR dominates everything. I don’t particularly enjoy it (CTF is better than BTB in this game IMO).

Quitting was a problem, yes. But I will take quitting over Joining a game of Rumble Pit where I’m down by 15 kills with ten left in the match any day of the week.

I think Halo 4 has the potential to be amazing, but 343i is stifling the game by giving us limited options on what we can do.

This is evidenced by the following:

-Regression of forge.

-Lack of Custom options and gametypes.

-Lack of playlist options.

There’s just no way to get away from their settings. It’s annoying and a large reason as to why I don’t enjoy the game. Sure, infinity settings are fun to the new guy in the group who isn’t to competitive and is looking for a fun time. But our options on slayer playlists are:

Infinity Slayer (Social Slayer)

Throwdown (MLG).

There’s no in between.

Many of you are screaming “the base speed is slower in halo 4, 3’s base speed is right.”
So if I made a video of me running from one spot on Valhalla (halo 3), the same exact spot on ragnorak (halo 4), and I ran to a warthog, and timed it, halo 4 would take longer?

In theory, yes.

I walked from one base to another in Halo 2 on Coagulation, took more time than the faster movement speed in Halo 4 did on a remake of Coag. Than again the remake could’ve just been a lot smaller, but a 15+ second difference seemed weird.
