We all know Halo’s chapter names:
“Reveille”
“Shut up and get behind me…sir.”
“And the horse you rode in on…”
“Last one out, get the lights.”
“I would have been your daddy…”
“They’ll regret that, too…”
“That old familiar feeling…”
“But I don’t want to ride the elevator!”
“Wait…it gets worse!”
You get the idea.
Halo had a certain character to it, something no other FPS has had since. The game basically talked to you through text, and it served as suspense, comic relief, and reference point.
In Reach, as much as I loved the chapter names in that game, they weren’t as noticeable. Where in the earlier games, the screen would letter-box and white text on the lower half of the screen would display the chapter names, in Reach it was just a blue strip across a small portion of the bottom screen with text.
For Halo 4, I’d like to see it go back to letterboxing, but put a twist on the chapter names.
On Easy, Normal, and Heroic, just have default chapter names. The ones we’re used to. Suspense, comic relief, reference. But on Legendary, how about we have it tell a narrative?
Maybe each chapter could be a back and fourth between two Forerunner, possibly ones we know from Bear’s novels. Maybe Precursor, even.
Would anyone else like to see something like this implemented?
