Halo 4, changing for better or worse?

Ok before I start this, I just wanna point out BesTman and Bravo nailed it in this video

So to avoid having arguements and have a more constructive discussion. I’m going to do this.

Pros for Halo 4.

Ranking System

So far, we know Halo 4 is supposed to be having a progressive ranking system as determined from the E3 video here.

Progressive Ranking system

Being similar to the Halo 3 XP system, this ranking system awards ranks based on how good you play and unlocks better weapons for loadouts as you go. So better skilled players will have access to more weapons because they’ll rank up faster then lesser skilled players. (If I have that theory correct)

The second ranking system listed here http://i.imgur.com/ngXmg.png is similar to the Starcraft 2 ranking system from what I’ve googled. Though not sure how this system will be placed or combined somehow with the first ranking system, this system may be implemented as a system for Spartan Ops, or maybe MLG.

Mechanics
The movement speed of that is that of Halo 3, a shield system which is similar to Halo 3’s system and jump height is also increased. AA’s do make a comeback and so far PV(Promethian Vision) being similar to VISR mode in ODST, Sprint, Hardlight Shield which is a shield similar to the shield gauntlets Jackals use, and a Thruster Pack which is advanced version of Evade which allows the player to quickly shift in any given direction(not comfirmed if you can use Thruster Pack to shift in a direction in midair)

Weapons and Maps

The maps in Halo 4 are very diverse and are some of the best maps I’ve seen since Halo 2 and a few in Halo 3. The BR makes a comeback which everyone already knows and the DMR makes its return with bloom. The Carbine returns with its Halo 3 like strength and the DMR seems to be buffed from Halo: Reach from the video at the beginning of the thread. The Needler appearing only in ORD drops(Ordinace Drops) seems to be strengthened very much to act like its dual wieldable counterpart in Halo 2 justifying from the RoF. The Storm Rifle acts like a an advanced version of an Plasma Repeater with a very high RoF justifying from the E3 gameplay videos.

Cons

Weapons

Bloom as returned on the Sniper Rifle, DMR and Magnum which not everyone is too thrilled about. The bloom in Halo 4 is adjusted to the TU style 85% bloom from Halo: Reach. Whether this will become a problem later on in the long run or whether it will be tweaked from feedback from RTX is questionable.

COD like elements introduced to the Halo franchise

These elements are what people are not too thrilled about. The addition of perks pertains to the canon as seen on the Halo 4 Ordinace and Armor section of the Halo 4 Official Website doesn’t seem exciting as canon coming into mutliplayer has never really been seen on a Halo game. Tactical Packages and Perks are features that you can equip on your Spartan IV to give you a so called extra hand in matchmaking. Whether that will impact the replayability of multiplayer may be judged in coming vidocs and gamepplay videos, we may see at RTX.

AA’s
AA’s were given a bad name when they were implemented into Halo: Reach. AL(Armor Lock) has been removed and replace with a Hardlight Shield that is similar to a Jackals Gauntlet but theres fear that it may be abused. This may or may not be the case as it only offers protection from the front but not from the sides or back, but people may use it as a crutch putting it up the first time they are shot. It’s not comfirmed whether it can take a Rocket, a Splaser(Spartan Laser) or even a Sword and not cause bleedthrough damage to the player when it disappears after the impact. A Plasma or Frag grenade will however take the shield down in one hit as seen from E3 videos.

Health Bars

Soem people have been in uproar about the Health Bars disappearing for Halo 4. There have been Health Bars in Halo: CE and Halo: Reach. The Health Bars however were not present in Halo 2 or 3 so it will be returning for Halo 4.

Now are ya’lls thoughts, with these new elements being brought in. Is Halo 4 changing for the better or worse?

Don’t worry mayne halo 4 will be fine.

ill wait till i actually get to play the game before i can say if its for better or worse. I for one see most of the changes for the better but i could be wrong…

  1. the maps I’ve seen (adrift and longbow) look like garbage, I’m not sure what you look for in maps but I personally value balance/fairness the most.
  2. the bloom is still in halo 4 but isn’t nearly as bad as what halo: reach did with it. from what I’ve heard (from MLG players) is that the DMR can be spammed which obviously means the bloom doesn’t have much of a factor on that weapon+some people have said the DMR seems to be the most powerful which means the bloom doesn’t take from the weapons power all that much. as for the sniper well it seems like the bloom doesn’t actually do anything, besides people have said that it takes more skill to use then it did in say reach. as for the magnum well that’s just a secondary weapon so it would be underpowered regardless.
  3. many of the people who played halo 4 at e3 seem to think the hardlight shield is useless, MLG players tend to notice things so I believe they’re telling the truth.
  4. the reason why people are complaining about the health bars being removed is because they’re still there they just won’t show it to us anymore.

I think that halo 4 is definitely better than reach was, however I’m not too sure about how it’ll stack up compared to Halo 1,2, and 3.

I think halo 4 easily has the potential to be the best halo ever made, we just got to see if 343 will take good care of it is all.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Halo 1,2,and 3 performed flawlessly. Bungie took a gamble in Halo Reach and it didn’t pay off. The game was more broken than Stephen Hawking’s limbs. 343 industries copy and pasted Halo Reach into Halo 4 adding the BR to make it appear as if it would have more of a Halo 3 feel but we see through their lies. The light is faint but still glimmers. 343 Industries can amend for their sins by having one of the biggest overhauls ever. For the sake of the beloved Halo franchise we must all wait and pray, hoping that our beloved will make a grandiose return.

I’d say it’s changing for the better.

> Don’t worry mayne halo 4 will be fine.

Wait, no health bars was a con? People have been complaining about that?
I thought people wanted a re-hash of Halo 2/3…

For the Ranking System part, you’re not quite correct. The progression system ranks you up with EXP and awards you weapons, like you said.

What we don’t know, is if this will be like Halo 3, where you have to reach a certain skill level or such. But really, I wouldn’t try explaining it until we got some legit facts.

The second part, which you referenced the picture of Frankie reaching rank A-7, was a placeholder. It was stated by Frankie himself and we don’t know how exactly the ranking system works as a whole.

Just trying to fix the OP a little.

Worse.

Hmm? Yes, I agree. I’d be much better for 343i to drop any originality/personality and just remaster Halo 2 or Halo 3. /sarcasm

Copy and paste Reach? The jump height and movement is closer to Halo 3 andthe Shield/Health system is closer to Halo 3. These things alone make it much different than Reach. Yes, there are armor abilities. But they are being improved, new ones are being added, and things are being balanced out.

> Wait, no health bars was a con? People have been complaining about that?
> I thought people wanted a re-hash of Halo 2/3…

people don’t want to have to run around the map searching for health packs, they do however want to know how much health they have before they die.

like I said it was still in halo 2/3 they just didn’t show it to you.

> Worse.

Care to explain your reasoning?

A convert!

They didn’t get rid of the abilities.
They brought back bloom (even if it’s just visual).
They increased kill times.

Don’t even get me started on the Infinity stuff.

care to explain to me why you dislike bloom? I mean whats the problem with weapons just looking like they’re more inconsistent? honestly dude the problem with bloom was the way it affected the game not the way it looked.

as for the increased kill times I’m kind of skeptical about that, from the gameplay I’ve seen it does appear to be more fast paced than all the other halos were but at the same time it doesn’t look like the kill times have changed all that much.

I mean you would think because each of the rifles are 5sk’s the kill times would take longer but I’m not entirely sure about that either.

#1 They’ve changed abilities a lot, for good or worse, we still don’t know, we’d need to try them out before we can say yay or nay.
#2 What’s wrong with just a visual bloom? It’s just visual, nothing more.
#3 How do you know.

Let me help you achieve a change, STOP SPAMMING THAT CRAP, if you don’t like what 343i is doing, fine, some of us like what they are doing, leave us be, some of us don’t want some damn troll spreading hate around because it’s not Bungie running the show, or because there’s a lot of change.

All you do is post hateful posts and copy and post the same thing over and over, if you don’t have any thing useful to say, don’t say any thing, leave us alone, and G T F O.

> They’ve changed abilities a lot, for good or worse, we still don’t know, we’d need to try them out before we can say yay or nay.

You may, but not me. I can already tell that they’ll make gameplay frustrating. When you pair them with weak weapons, the individual skill gap tightens even more.

I can’t play to my potential when I have no idea what everyone else is spawning with.

> I can’t play to my potential when I have no idea what everyone else is spawning with.

That I will agree with you on, it kind of reminds me of back in Halo PC and Halo 2, you never knew if the person shooting at you had a rocker launcher, shotgun, flamethrower, or sword until it’s too late, but maybe 343i has a trick that’ll make things easier to tell what ability every one has…

At lest the shield ability leaves you open up on the sides and in the back, and makes you pick between your weapon and a shield.

I dislike the return of AA’s altogether but – there in the game so I will adapt

As for the rest it could be great IF IMPLEMENTED RIGHT if implemented WRONG LIKE Reach it will still ve better the Reach .
