Let us take a second here and actually discuss what Halo 4 could do to provide a challenge. To be more specific I’m going to use game’s from different time’s as examples.
First up is Doom from the PC. This game is a challenge those who have played this game (via skull tag or other forms) know that this game can be a bit brutal the higher in difficulty you go. Upon die in Doom you loss everything you had up to that point and time not being able to go back and get them and having to make due with what you had.
Second is Contra from the NES, not really a first person shooter but is the ultimate challenge of games, being that you get two lives, one hit your dead. This game requires you to think on your toes while trying to stay alive, and with out using the Konami Kode.
From the N64 we have Goldeneye 007, and Perfect Dark. Both game’s have three difficulty levels, yet even still as you progress through the game’s campaign’s they become harder with enemies only getting stronger and tougher.
One adapts to the challenge each game presents, so what could we do with Halo 4 with Examples above to make it a challenge? Enemies that think and change to your playing style? Sounds nice right?
> Isn’t that what Easy, Normal, Heroic, and Legendary are for? o.O
To a degree yes. Halo CE legendary provided a great challenge, Halo 2 provided an even greater challenge on legendary. Their is a difference in difficulty between the two. For myself Halo 2 was the hardest campaign ti beat. When Halo 3 came around it felt like Legendary had become Heroic, and so on and so forth. The campaign can’t be too easy, without being to difficult. As the difficulty changes the enemies should as well, making them a bit more challenging to deal with.
Halo Reach was actually quite difficult at times, but never got frustrating to the point that Halo 2 did at times (though Halo 2 was really an amazing experience on Legendary). The game should definitely be a challenge though, since it’s never fun if it’s too easy (unless you’re playing on Easy or Normal).
I remember when i was 12 and i played it with my 7 year old brother. We were both horrible at it. Sad to say it scratched before we could play it again after beating the game on normal that is.
The one that was annoying was quarintine zone where there was a tunnel between two vehicle maps and it was pitch black, i couldn’t see where i was going and ended up at the beginning, and due to the time wasted i was told to off the xbox because i took an hour trying to get through.
> What about an official 5th difficulty where the AI are able to adapt to your tactics based on your current and previous games?
>
> e.g. You’re someone who likes to sneak around and bypass everything, on this 5th difficulty setting that will be no longer possible.
>
> If you’re confused about this concept, watch Season 8, Episode 6 of Stargate SG1.
lol, good luck finding any human being that can code that A.I. Also good luck running it on the 360. RRoD FTW.

reach isn’t really hard, it just adds gimicks to catch you out all the time like enemies shooting faster than possible, grenades that home in on you and fly through the air faster than yours and elites almost 1 hit melee kills

I think the elites were a perfect challenge when faced against them. Though don’t see many minor ranks when you play, but still they were challenge to fight most of the time. I do think that certain spots in the campaign should be choke points between the player and AI. One spot I remember was the Sniper’s in New Mombasa just after Johnson picked up the Marines (H2). For Reach it was the General with the FRG at the top of Sword Base.
