I honestly believe if the people of 343 listen to their customers that the population of players won’t dwindle so much. I love halo 4 and love the way the direction was taken in the campaign its a great story but put the lacking multiplayer in and you got an aggravating game that leaves you with exploring new games.
In my opinion halo 4 is a lil on the noob friendly side. Quickspawns take the challenge of surviving. In older halo games you get punished for dying meaning you had to wait to help your team meaning your life in the game was important unlike halo 4. Some modes in halo 4 are still true to the punishment for dying soon and those are my only playlists i like to play. Another noob friendly is taking friendly fire out of most playlists meaning you can be a trigger happy rambo and no need to communicate with your team taking the fun out of talking to people in other places.
The grenades are a problem in all halo games because splash damage is weak but this one is bad because it makes the vehicles overpowered meaning warthogs and mantises can rule the match longer.
Lag switch kits from cheaters also ruins the fun of the game and they need to be busted more often than now.
I honestly don’t find the multiplayer challenging at all and the ranking system to be a joke.
Lastly I feel like i got ripped off with the map packs i paid for considering they are not really adapted for most playlists and are in playlists I care less about playing.
I want the multiplayer of this game to come back and be more enjoyable and I still play it but i feel more aggravation now than fun especially considering that all my halo friends have turned to new games due to either being frustrated or bored with multiplayer. It needs to be more challenging and fun and more “Halo”. I really hope they work out the kinks because i feel like reviewing or renting the new halo before I fork over my money again. Please 343 work out these kinks or start an Old school 4v4 and 8v8 playlist and work out the lag and catch the cheaters. Start a new ranking system.
I’m sorry, but unfortunately we’re just beating a dead horse at this point. Halo 4 is never going to return to what it was on release with 500’000+ people playing. 343 has tried and tried again to make changes for the people who wanted Halo 4 to be different. Honestly, if you took a good hard look at release’s matchmaking and today’s matchmaking you would find a TON of differences. So, why isn’t the population rising, or coming back to what it was? It’s because the people who played it wanted Halo 3 with better graphics and Halo 4 couldn’t deliver that… I mean, look at Legendary Slayer. It was said to be a gametype that was as close to classic as Halo 4 could get, and that rang true, but was is REALLY that fun? I think the 500 people who played it will tell you yes, but the 20’000 others who tried it and hated it will tell you a different story.
Also, now with restricting what was (likely) the most popular gametype to only people who had a certain DC pack, their numbers are dropping even further and they don’t seem to be compensating with other less popular gametypes. It seems most of the players who were just in it for IS left for good and won’t come back, either until the restriction is dropped, or never. You best better wait until Halo 5, because Halo 4 is long past the days where a comeback was possible. It’s unfortunate it didn’t even last a year, because despite its faults I still really liked it.
At this point, I feel like 343 should focus completly on Halo Xbox One. Most of the changes people want with H4, can only be made by re-releasing the game.
OP: you have some good points in your post (lag complaints, instant respawn) but to complain about lack of challenge seems a bit odd.
- Your highest CSR is 11 in BTB. You still have a ton of commendations and achievements yet to get. You have no CSR in Griffball, Ricochet, most objective playlists. I do see you have already got an ‘unfriggenbelievable’ medal.
You probably have a high skill level but are still being matched with ‘noobs’ because the game has not yet got a handle on how good you are.
Try to get your CSR up to 50 in the gametypes you care about, you will end up playing people who will challenge you, I guarantee it. Play some other gametypes and try to do the same.
Sorry your friends have quit Halo. I think if you stick around you will have a lot of fun still and then maybe you will bring them back.
Halo 4 does have some issues but I say you will have a blast if you stick around.

I would agree, except for the #1 aspect that drives me away from H4 and back to Reach - LAG. 343 has done nothing to try and resolve it - they never even mention it as an issue despite the thousands of posts about lag in the forums.
I now only play Reach for my halo Fix. If I play 20 BTB games in Reach, one games will be lagged by 0.5+ seconds. If I play H4 (and I played ~ 1400 war games before stopping), 14 out of 20 games will be lagged by 0.5+ seconds. And I don’t mean brief lag sessions, start to finnish H4 has lagged like crazy.
And it wasn’t because of low player numbers in the lists either. I predominantly played BTIS in H4 with 8,500+ people in the lobby. Reach only has 500 to 1,500 in the BTB lobby, so the number of players is not a factor in my case.
I play COD II ,GTA IV, Sonic and other multiplayer titles and none of of them lag as badly as H4 ever does. My connection is better than most, 7 ms ping time to server, less than 100 ms ping time across North America (I’m in Alberta Canada), 50+ Mbps download and 11 Mbps upload, ADSL, iTV off, no other downloads running and single user on the internet.
The reason it does lag like this how they select Host in H4 (Host History versus picking the host with the best connection for ping time, and through put) and not grouping players with better connection together.
They can do all the weapons, load outs etc adjustments they want to, but if your lagged by 0.5+ seconds 70% of the time, your can not hit and kill anyone - making the game ZERO FUN and a major frustration.
Hi mja calg!
I am in awe of your single minded determination to get 343 to fix the lag issues! I fully support you and have also argued in the past for a local only host option.
BUT
unless the lag is gamebreaking for this guy, there is still some challenge/fun in H4 I reckon.
Actually calg, I recently went to reach and we played matchmaking. It was laggier than halo 4 and found out some possible ways reach dealt with the lag.

Sorry to hear that.
Did you trying turning on the “Good Connection” option in Reach, especially for the lower populated game lists?
And what game type were you playing? I pretty much only play BTB in Reach, so I don’t know about some of the other game types with lower populations.

Thanks and I agree there is fun in the game if your playing solo or locally with friends. For multiplayer it simply isn’t playable for me.
I am sadly very single minded on this issue, which I think makes the game zero fun to play, is the main reason they lost 200,000 multiplayer people in the first week and it can be solved on the front end servers without a game change.
I had hoped the saying “The Squeeky Wheel Gets The Grease” might apply and 343 would address the issues if they see enough people complaining and talking about it (lots of people complaining about Lag with the drop in population now). Unfortunately, it looks like the saying “Don’t go away mad - just Go Away” is what 343 wants me to do.
I’ve more or less had it with 343. I’m going to try and sell my LE copy of H4 and move on (the “mad” part). this will likely be my last post and will be the first time I do not hang onto a Halo FPS game and Halo CE, H2, H3, H3 ODST and Reach will be it.
GTA 5 is out now, BF4 is out soon and Destiny will be out next year. By the time Destiny ships, all the Xbox One or PS4 bugs (but I won’t need XB1 if I don’t buy Halo 5) should be worked out.
