Halo 4 Campaign Sandbox + Vehicles

Ok this just crossed my mind, think back to Halo 1, 2, 3, ODST, and Reach. Now remember all that vehicle action and massive variety? What happened to it all in Halo 4? (Take the small ‘faction’ of covies in to account… But still. They managed to get thousands in numbers in campaign and hordes in Spartan Ops and a fleet, where was the ordnance?) And the UNSC, 4 years later, massive ships and trucks with MAC cannons on top. Though there was not much fun Scorpion usages or ‘The Covenant’ 2 scarabs vs 5 Hornets, a pelican, a tank and a hog and mongoose…

And what happened to the ‘HUGE’ landscapes? Compare Halo 2 and 3. Being on Halo rings, Installation 00 and Earth, there was a lot of missions and areas. Now on a massive planet, there was just, grass cliffs, more grass cliffs, Night time cliffs, and grass cliffs. And then a ship interior.

Understandably it was just a ‘small’ covenant fleet and 1 UNSC ship, will Halo 5 be like Halo 2 and 3? You know, MORE MARINES, more VEHICLES, and no ANCIENT 20 year old Reach weapons? (Don’t flame people Halo 5 timeline to Reach is going to be a while so why not get some proper tech?)

In short, who misses the massive sandbox exploration and vehicle battles? :frowning:

I commend you!

It’s the engine. 343 most likely focussed too much on the graphics that they sacrificed the memory. There’s less possible in items and all then the other Halo’s.

I just noticed some people who go by ‘purist’ or what ever from the original Halo games complaining about Halo 4’s downfall. I’d have to say I partially agree. I mean I -blam- love Halo’s 1-3. And literally spent more than a years worth playing campaigns over and over.

Apart from lots of people complaining, I believe that 343 is on the right track and needs to make Halo 5 have halo 2 and 3’s sandboxes, vehicle combat, and the marines like Halo 3 to be in combat sometimes blurting some hilarious lines and quotations to make you laugh.

Halo CE-Halo ring. Halo 4-Forerunner shield world.So…halo 5=halo 2?

Finally, a campaign thread! I’ll do my best to keep this active.

Graphics happened.

I don’t mind the grassy terrain (though I despise tall grass).

I’m more concerned about the Forerunner structures. They don’t seem that lively to me. CEA The Library looks a lot better than most structures in this game. And the past structures in Halo games look better than Halo 4’s as well.

If Halo 5 is made on the new Xbox, then it’ll likely have more support for AI and vehicles.

AI numbers achievable in Halo games (before things start deloading):

CE: 80
Halo 2: 60
Halo 3: 50

I don’t know about Halo 4, but Spartan Ops seems to be able to support more AI than Campaign. I’d say it’s about 40-50 max AI at once.

Yes taking all the programming and graphics into consideration. Though I still think campaign could of been something more and lacked many possibilities…

Just because a gun is old doesn’t mean it isn’t still effective.

Though I agree with the rest.

Very true. For all the hype and spectacle and pretty skyboxes, Halo 4 is actually one of the most linear and corridor’d Halos to date. I was disappointed by the lack of big vehicle battles - sure, there are vehicle sections, but they’re short, railroaded, and don’t offer any freedom or exploration.

Also, Halo 4 has a serious lack of friendly AI. It’s the most lonely Halo so far. I used to love kitting out my marines and trying my best to keep them alive all the way to the end of the level (Tsavo Highway, etc). There’s very little opportunity to do that in Halo 4. Not only are there LESS marines who join you, but they seem a lot stupider now (you want me to use my Gauss Cannon on that Wraith? Nah, I’d rather shoot that dead Grunt a few more times. LOLOL)

I agree! I am a huge vehicle fan, but bringing back the cardboard vehicles from reach was a total mistake. I remember plenty of times onhalo 3 sandtrap where I could easily pick someone out of a warthog with a BR or sniper without destroying the damn thing.
And indeed, halo 3 and reach both had a bigger sandbox when it came to vehicles. Thats what you get when you trade graphics for gameplay. Something I thought halo would never do :frowning:

So true. The vehicle sections feel forced.

It’s suicidal to use a Banshee at the pylon on Forerunner but what other option do you got?
It’s hard shooting down Banshees on Composer with a Wraith while using the Mantis makes the whole section easy.
What are you going to do with a Mongoose and a rocket launcher if your marines deload? Looks like you have no choice but to use the Mantis.
Why do I finally get to pilot the awesome new Pelican with great controls but I’m boxed in by a bunch of soft kill zones?
And let’s not forget about how the Mammoth can’t do anything useful.

But I digress, I don’t play Halo so much for it’s vehicle combat.

And yes, the lack of marines was disappointing. They are a step up from Reach IMO but they’re still lousy. The emphasis on graphics essentially puts to rest marine collecting.
