Halo 4: Campaign Health Bar

Halo Combat Evolved, and even Halo Reach were both praised for one notable feature.
They both had one main thing in common, a health bar.’

A health bar is your secondary health, combined with regenerating shields, it gives us the simplicity for health regeneration, but with an added challenge, like Half Life.

I think that a health bar makes Campaign encounters more challenging, more for filling.

Basically, the problem with 90s shooters that everyone loved and hated was static health. Health packs and pick ups dominated shooters back then. One game, by the name of Half Life, got 50 GOTY awards.

It was challenging. Sparse health packs, and many enemies made encounters more for filling, it had the survival type sense.

I think that the health bar works with Halo, this is one of the reasons why Halo is popular people, because it combined the old system with the new system.

Imagine taking on Elites, and killing a few. Your health is low, but you have shields. It gives you various options to fight them, and/or die in the process. You eventually kill off the Elites, but die to the next encounter.

Now, imagine this with no health bar, with full health regen. You spend most of your time, 1 by 1 killing off the enemies. No challenge, and in my opinion, less satisfaction.

Your gamble to kill someone is instantly re payed when your shields recharge.

I feel this has a very bad effect on encounters.

I also like the old health system combined with shields, because it is classic Halo.

Halo: Combat Evolved.

Make your own judgement, but it should at least be optional, if not mandatory.

Halo needs to distance itself from other day shooters IMO, it has been known to be unique, which is why there are no iron sights, no cover system, and things that plaque a lot of other games.

I agree, the health bar did force you to think more and act accordingly.
BTW, it’s not “for filling”, it’s “fulfilling”. Just so you know…

That is nothing to do with the discussion, and no, if health doesn’t regenerate with shields, the game is not easier.

I have completed Halo 2 on Legendary, but that is only harder because the enemies are doing more damage per shot.

Challenging is a different matter entirely. This is about Campaign encounters.

if there’s a health-bar, health packs MUST behave like Reach’s = player picks them up by pressing a button, not just walk near them.
