It’s totally a Cryptum. A Cryptum is a kind of Forerunner preservation chamber. I don’t know if this is the general bent of their culture, but the Didact (head leader guy of the Forerunner military) was exiled to Erde-Tyrene and rested in one for 1,000 years before the events that led to the activation of the Halo rings.
That Cryptums can rise, sense things and fly around is news to everyone, but I guess it’s not startling that Forerunners could or would do that. As for who is in it… that could be anyone.

Seriously, it’s a Cryptum.
I believe that what’s in the cryptum is the Didact. He’s an ancient forerunner general. How I have the idea is in the Halo 4 Trailer there is a picture of the Didact Symbol.
Only thing is in the symbol the circle in the middle is filled up and the symbol seems to be turned upside down. Also to note is that the Symbol is red. There is a code fore colors.
Blue-Forerunner
Yellow-I think A.I.? I’m not sure about yellow.

I guess nobody reads the books? It’s the Didacts Cryptum. The book Cryptum explains just about everything about it(durrr). The Didact is the highest ranking warrior rate among the Forunners aka Warrior Servant. You never know if he dies or not after firing the Halo Array on instillation 00(Ark). He may have fled or gotten into his cryptum which got sent to his planet. Yes I say HIS planet because Shield Worlds were the Didacts design. unlike the Didact, the Masterbuilder(highest ranking builder rate) designed and built the Halo Ring Worlds. The Didact never got to execute his proposal but we may come to learn it in Halo 4. Go ahead and read these books! by all means they are quite good and can help you better understand the wide world of HALO:)
