There is no such thing as too much armor in my opinion, its making the armor click with each other. Halo 4 has tons of armor but the vast majority look very weird and lack any flexibility. I don’t know why, and I’m not saying this to be petty or anything, but I have always felt that Reach and Halo 3 had better armor than Halo 4, Halo 4 Spartans have the perfect soldier-like body posture, but their armor does not look so good.
Halo Reach and Halo 3 armor on the other hand did, and looked traditionally Halo. Halo 4 armor just didn’t have that awesome Spartan armor feel. Everything down to the textures is all wrong, the visors do not look nearly as good as past titles, the armor texture does not look realistic, and the actual armor itself does not actually cover a lot of the body like the old ones did. Instead they have that weird secondary armor color on the actual muscle-suite to make up for the lack of armor cover.
And I know they made that feature link with Cannon when they said that the Huragok modified the armor to make it lighter and more flexible. But you can still have a lot of armor cover and still be flexible, the old styled MARK 6 that looked more like a combat skin is a testimony to that. The Spartans in Halo 4 just don’t look like Spartans, the next stage in Human evolution, the Spartans in Halo 4 should have adopted a more combat skin type of look, maybe along the lines of Ancient Human/ Forerunner armor or a Halo Wars art design.
343 should have made 3 types of base models for Spartan 4s armor, Combat skin Light for your swift Recon type Spartans, Medium for your Emile type Spartans and Heavy for your Jorges of the pack, along the lines of this picture. Then they could have added the attachments afterwards and it would have been perfect. That way the armors would click and still have awesome attachments that work.
i think all the armors, bar a few, look to robotic, all i can see when i face a player is “a bright shining figure” i dont see thier helmet or anything like in reach. i can see thier silioutte and no detail. and i have an hd tv. i mean think about it, when you go into combat you’d rather not be all shiny but a dull color. in my honest opinion, the armors dont even look like they are actually people but a hunk of metal that looks robotic.
> I feel like Halo 4 armour should have options on how you wanna look ( ie: Choose between a reach look or a H3 look or a H4 look)
> I don’t like the achievement armour unlock system because like someone said above me, the armour was too easy to get. If I remember correctly, you got armour for beating the game on normal.
Heroic and Legendary. You also unlocked armor for unlocking skulls, you would get armor for Splattering someone in a mongoose on Ranked multiplayer and in Halo 3 that was no easy feat to achieve and for a bunch of other stuff that wasn’t easy to be honest. Unlocking armors Via achievements was the best thing in my opinion, it kept people interested in the game a made people work together to get armors that where simply to hard to get alone.
Also there was always that great feeling when you finally got an armor that struggled so hard for, when I finally got Hayabusa, I didn’t take it off for a month, I was so happy when I unlocked it and everyone knew what I had to do to get it, instead of playing ridiculous hours of games to unlock some armor. I think armors should be unlocked with Bungie styled achievements, which where funny and made so much sense and had epic names.
Then you can unlock further attachments with in game Cr if you wish to. Anyone who played Halo 3 and ODST knows exactly what i’m talking about when I mention Vidmaster Endure, that was easily one of the Hardest and most rewarding achievements I have ever gotten in any Halo title… ever. The feeling when I finally completed it, saw that achievement unlocked sign and put on Dat Recon armor, it was indescribable.
As a kid, it was the highlight of my gaming life. Its moments like that, that make people love a game and come back to it, its novel moments like those that get people hooked to a game. And in Halo 4, they just seemed to be absent in my opinion. But hey, its probably because I’ve played all the Halos TBH, but that just means 343 have to work that bit harder to get loads of people hooked I don’t know, maybe it’s just me
I’m going to agree with everyone here. I like the armor look from Halo Reach. However I like the fine detail of Halo 4. I hope the next game gives us more unique armor pieces and more visor helmets.
You don’t earn all the armor by just leveling up. There’s still things you need to do to get the rest. The Venator for example, you need to master the assassin commendation to get it and it takes a long while. Also for Verdant, you need to get splatters. So you can see the visor and say, “Wow, he’s run over a lot of people”
I thought Reach’s armor was the worst! All the armor pieces were giant, flat pieces of metal basically slapped on the spartan, and like one guy said earlier that the proportions were way off. It made everyone look like a bunch of guys with beer bellies running around who skipped leg day.
I admit that some of the halo 4 designs are a little more alienish, but there are plenty that look plain average military style. There are a bunch of shoulder pads and chest pieces that are very similar, but I love the sleek armor. There is no reason these armor systems need to be giant square plates strapped to you. Halo 4 armor would have to be my favorite, followed by Halo 3, Halo 2 (yeah), and then Reach.
I also thought unlocking through game achievements were pointless and easy. I like the accommodation style unlock system where if you use specific weapons or items you unlock armor that relates to it. Something like if someone kills a lot of people with grenades they get grenadier armor, or if someone snipes a lot of people they get scout armor etc. Then as you progress through the sniper rifle accommodation system you can apply skins to your armor, but without duplicating the helmet and armor again in the armor selection.
I like the Halo 4 armor, some of the armor is pretty weird though. I do miss Reach’s paint job. It felt like it has been through through some firefights. Halo 4’s paint just doesn’t look that realistic to me.
Simple answer: I’m perfectly happy with the armor. Sure, some if it’s not too good-looking, but there’s just as many that look pretty cool. For example: Recon looks a little more futuristic, and it looks alright, for the most part; then there’s Ranger, which is the visual embodiment of “Why?”
Also, there’s some new armor coming out, so you can either wear that or just -Yoink- about it. Your call.

I like the ranger shoulders, cause those look pretty good. But the rest is meh.

Well, the shoulders, sure. The helmet… no. I just miss my ODST, really.
you really think commendations are harder than achievements? achievements you have to do something specific in a specific way. commendations is all about time played, say i get one assasination per game, one per game will get you vent armor in less than a week. i still havent ran someone over in ranked FFA in H3. but i have over half the needed assasinations for vent and im only lvl 63. point proven.
The UNSC symbols and stuff on the armor piss me off, I want to be a Spartan not feel like I’m advertising in NASCAR.
The armors have no clear purpose. Just by looking at the armor you can’t tell what the point of it is. Unlike CQB from Halo 3, where the knife and protection on the head told you what the armor would be used for.
They’re just plain impractical. Seriously, do I even need to explain how Wetwork is so stupid in this regard?
I liked the armor in Halo reach the best because they all looked awesome regardless of which set and all the little bits on the armor like Knives, extra stuff on your helmet and other accessories made m spartan feel unique. In Halo 4 the some of the other armors look ridiculous and felt like their from a whole other game but at least you don’t have to buy armor four an insane amount of credit in Halo reach which took forever to earn.
I didn’t read all the comments just the topic and I’ll say to this.
I MISS VIDMASTER ACHIEVEMENTS!!!
Those were the most rewarding achievements in Xbox because it worked your way up to recon armor which at that time was the apple of everyone’s eye and if you had it you were somewhat of an awesome player if you know what I mean… I mean you were awesome and loved the game… Dedicated player!!!
ENDURE!!! I don’t play every game in the world but in my opinion that was the hardest achievement ever because it took teamwork, communication, and skill. It was the perfect challenge any game could offer at the time.
Some of the Halo 4 armor is pretty cool but there’s only a few things that you get rewarded a certain armor piece for. But like was said on the topic most of the armor is pretty much playing the game alot.
I also miss playing as an Elite. It definitely gave the game more diversity.
I miss my rouge helmet. I do agree though, more armour permutations should be achievement/gamerscore unlocks. Getting that Katana/security was one of my halo 3 highlights.
> > 95% of Halo 4 armor is hideously ugly. if they haven’t done so already, they need to fire their armor design team.
>
> I completely disagree, some are weird, but only than about 5% of the armor are out-right bad. (contoured, venator, pioneer, fotus, wetwork)
For some reason, Venator seems more believable than Wetwork.
> I only like the “normal” looking ones, you know, the ones that don’t look like a rejected form of Forerunner.
>
> So basically I only rock Recruit, Scout, Recon, Warrior, Mark VI, you see where I’m going with this…

> And because the majority of the armor looks hideous to me, I vote it is bad.
Gonna go ahead and say this again, I feel it’s true.
