Halo 4 armor vs. Reach armor

SANGHEILI!!!
WORT WORT WORT!
(^_^)

Reach had better colors and some interesting armor, but H4’s skins are a nice addition. If the colors would look nice, that is.

But my vote (if you don’t consider Elites) goes to H3. Those armors look unique and less gimmicky.
Oh, and it had Sangheili!
(^_^)

Here’s what I liked about the Halo Reach armor. For one thing it was the color of the armors. They looked like they went through a little wear and tear, they didn’t look all shiny and new like it was in 3 and 4. To me it translated well with the narrative. A spartan 3’s armor would be pretty jacked up considering what they’ve been through and what they are going through now. This also can be said with their armor attachments. Nearly everything they had was made for extended periods of battle and survivability. Anything that could prolong their time out on the field with little or no support. All of the satellite comm uplinks on the helmets and wrists. The cases/pouches they had on their bodies to carry extra supplies. You look at that spartan and you would probably make accurate assumptions based of their appearances. “His armor looks really rough. I bet those scratches and dents represent every intense battle he was able to survive. Lots of the parts around his feet are really warn out. He must have been moving for days. It’s possible cause he’s also has tons of cases on him, some of them look empty. He must have been out here for days, constantly moving trying to prolong his life as long as he possibly can from the Covenant onslaught.”

And then we get to Halo 4’s armor. Some of them I like but I can see what would shun most people away. As one other poster said, the armor looks way too ‘futuristic’. We had this bulky armor on these large individuals who had tons of cybernetic enhancements now we have these high contrast colors on these skin tight suits with less armor plating than the armors that we’re used to.

Also I really hate the armor color patterns. The primary color dominates the whole armor. We lost the personal color part that we had in 3 and now secondary colors are hardly visible in gametypes where they are visible. And honestly i feel the armor customization got a little lazy. In Reach, you had the base part and there were additional attachments for that part. Even though the team color dominated your color choice it couldn’t cover the armor parts you unlocked. Now its the armor and a color pattern. A color pattern that will get covered in nearly every gametype.

> Dunno, I expected 4 to expand on Reach with customisation, like being able to choose specific attachments and where they were for all helmets/chests rather than pre-set configurations and be able to pick where the knife was positioned.
> Instead they were just removed the items completely.

I had hoped this too but we get color patterns that are pointless considering team colors negate them.

I like the Halo 4 armor, but Reach’s told more of a story, looked actually like military hardware. The Halo 4 armor seems rather like new cars in my opinion, but still look very decent.

Halo Reach… Aka you looked and felt like a supersoldier in tank armor.

Halo 4, boy I wonder which ranger I wanna be. Pink, or red? So many choices…

Does 343i not know we love helmets with brims and visors?

I miss the big shoulder pads :frowning:

Ditto, Halo Reach’s armor seemed to have more personality.

While my vote went to Reach I still love my Infiltrator and CIO.

Reach was more realistic which I prefer. I do like roughly 1/3 of Halo 4’s armor. Some of the chest plates are better than Reach. Shoulders aren’t too bad either.

I think the biggest issue I have with Halo 4 armor are the helmets. Too many of them are way too futuristic in comparison to the previous games. As well, the visor on roughly half of them just aren’t realistic. Wetwork? Helmet looks cool, but that slit of a visor? UGH, how can you see out of it? CIO? Ugh again…3 dots AND you can’t change their color.

Give me helmets that have realistic visors or at least realistic eye slots like the warrior helmet and make sure we can change their color and I’ll be pretty happy.

I do hope we see a mix of returning helmets from Halo 3, Reach, and Halo 4. As well I’d like to see some new ones for Halo5, but again, realistic, not too futuristic and definitely have reasonable visors/eye slots.

Oh and one thing that I think is a detractor is how some of the secondary colors are patterned. Some look haphazard. I’d prefer patterns to have some sort of reasoning behind them. A pattern that makes sense, not something just kind of thrown together, as some of them look like, to me.

I prefer Reach and Halo 3. If for no other reason other than the Security helmet.

As for Halo 4’s armor. I understand that the armor is meant for the fourth generation of Spartans. Which are essentially mass produced super soldiers as opposed to the hand selected super soldiers. So I understand that the armor isn’t going to look as bulky as earlier models because it too is mass produced.

But the fact that they decided to have the armor influenced by “Forerunner” design was a mistake. A majority of the armor looks like rejected Neon Genesis Evangelion eva-mech designs.

I saw the skins for the armor was mentioned in here as well. And while I think it was a good idea when it was first announced. I think they screwed it up by not allowing the skins to be used with all armors. I hate the fact that you can’t use the skins on all the armor sets.

EDIT: And one more thing I dislike about the Halo 4 armor. I don’t like how the under suit isn’t all black. If the under suit was all black the colors on the armor would pop a little more.

Halo 3: Softly colored very appealing to the eye.
Halo: Reach: Nice detail, cool variants and bulky. Very appealing and also so many combinations.
Halo 4: Dear god, where do i start. One, the only variants you get is some different patterns or stripes, that’s… nice? How about helmets, take a look at some classic helmets that were butchered. Recon, ruined. Scout, ruined. The visor colors, suck. They tried too hard, all the armors give you a headache if you stare at them. I’m a very armor dependent guy. I look at someones armor and judge their style off of that. In Reach when you saw a high leveled player you expected some nice combinations of armors. In halo 4, my god no one cares, it’s all pointless. The coolest part about halo beside the gameplay was ruined. No big bulky shoulders, and they all look the same. Does armor mean anything to them anymore?

In my opinion Halo 3’s armors were beautiful. I loved the way you had to get them too. Made you work for them.

But Reach… Reach’s armors were all good. Maybe a few bad ones. I will admit, E.O.D was ruined. But they all looked appealing, and I don’t know about you but when I get in to lobbys I instantly look at peoples armors.

I really hope 343 pulls off some pretty cool armors. Or fix the ones they have because if you take 1 look at this poll. 343 is losing to Bungie in creativity.

Reachs Armor:
In my opinion Reach’s armor has better colors and helmets. Besides I really like the attachments for your armor and the ‘used’ look. Reach’s armor simply gives you more personality than 4’s. You can create a Spartan that tells you a little story just when looking at his armor.

On the other hand some of Reach’s armor is way to bulky for a Spartan. Some of the armor (i.e. Commando shoulders) would even handicap you in actual combat.

Halo 4’s Armor:
I like how you can finally customize your legs and forarms and the variety of visor colors. Also that there is now a full armor set to every single helmet.

On the other hand many armor sets in 4 are just aesthetical but not functional.
‘Hey look at my new fancy Wetwork helmet. I can’t see anything but who cares as long as I look cool on the battlefield’- no Spartan ever
As a Spartan I want something that works and supports me in combat and is designed for specific situations, skills or functions and looks like that. Also it seems like that mixing different armor sets is not working in Halo 4 anymore. They just don’t fit with each other especially when you try to put on two different shoulder pads. Another negative point is that when I heard there will be armor skins I expected that you can pick one out of maybe 10-15 skins that you lay over your armor. But unfortunately it was not what I expected.

To sum up, I would pick Halo Reachs armor because of the personality it gives you and I spent a lot of time only creating new characters in Reach what I am really missing in Halo 4. But Halo 4’s armor has potential and I hope it will really improve in the future Halo title.

I think that’s because they don’t need a visor to see. Cameras n that.

Actually, the visors are an improvement from reach, as all the reach colours (except silver and default) came back, while also making new multicolour visors. The next step would be have you make your own visor (choose colour(s), maybe even pattern)

Halo 4 definitely has the better armour.

i read fan fiction of it, its called MIA from some website its a crossover after a spartan survived the slipspace rupture and end up into another universe and crashed into a planet filled with mythical creatures. now im not going to mention the name because i just don’t want to to get hate on what great author

halo 4 has some bad armor.[venator, wetwork, ranger, rogue shoulders, contoured anything]
but on the the other hand, reach had horribad shoulders, dull chest pieces only redeemable via attachments.

Overall, I think I prefer 4s design [no metal daiper, diverse body shape depending on combat role]
and reachs general appearance[gritty worn plates, pockets, functional looking attachments and gear]

i’m leaning towards halo 4 though.

They should bring back the mark v helmet, it was my favourite helmet.

A lot of the armor in both Reach and h4 is pretty weird although Reach had slightly better armor IMO. I still think h3 had the best armor despite having a small selection. You could actually customize both the spartan and the elite, and who didn’t love having that katana?

In 4, they all look like plastic and like they should be little tiny action figures. In all the other games, they look like hulking, mobile tanks (which is the point!).

They look so dainty, and the differences in too many of the 4 armor is the neon lines on them, not the structure of them. Maybe it’s because they tried to make too many variations? Could be.

But these look like cheap plastic toys- the layering is bad, the texture is glossed, and it looks like someone just discovered Carbon Fiber before getting his/her hands on some vector illustration tools. haha.
