Halo 4 armor pieces having uses.

Would it be cool if there were certain armor pieces that had abilities? Such as the wrist utilities in halo reach with the screens, you could be able to do something with the screens. Or chest pieces with extra grenades or ammo would boost your initial ammo count. Some light armor could boost your speed. Share your ideas.

All i have to say is if this happened, there would have to be the equivelent of Reach’s infamous credit cap to stop people from ranking/unlocking too fast and having an overwhelming advantage

It would be interesting to have, but I think it would add a whole new level of problems for multiplayer. Sure they sound good, but on paper what happens when the new player thats just starting out meets the player that has a years worth play time under his/her belt.

I love the idea, but I just don’t think it would work for Halo 4.

They would be better if there were disadvantages to make it balanced, so that wouldn’t happen.
But I do understand how that would be frustrating for new players, and they might just stop playing.

The hardcore MM crowd would have a heart attack if players could come in with variations of perks and bonuses to armor. I don’t see it being a problem in Spartan Ops or anything Co-Op if helmets had differing HUDs or armor boosts. Halo is a pretty expansive universe, so if Microsoft ever went Skyrim with it as a separate game from the meat of Halo like they did with Halo Wars and meant this new game to be a massive sandbox with character customizations, Halo fans would probably jump on board “so long” as Microsoft was upfront and said it was NEW EXPERIENCE. Even then some couldn’t wrap their heads around it and you’d still get a fuss.

So long as 343 doesn’t follow EA’s gouge as you go policy, armor perks sound fairly interesting. My questions would be do they work in Campaign and Firefight/ Spartan OPs with the Halo feel? It is creating classes, so if the map is just full of Health packs is a medical armor perk really necessary? Does the new enemy pounce on players like L4D and you got knock them using a certain technique that your Spartan specializes in? It gets complicated.

I always thought in Reach if you opened the wrist attachment with the shot gun shells then you should be able to carry 8 more rounds. But for some Hardcore MM player that’s heresy and they tend to scream bloody murder the loudest.

I’ve said this before in other threads just like this: If armor affected gameplay, people would choose their armor based on what it did rather than how it looked. I would rather have a Spartan I think looks cool but doesn’t do anything than one that looks weird but gives me something else.

NO!

NO!

NO!

Halo has been different from other FPS’s in that you spawn at an even playing field. its all about skill.

This was lessened in Reach when you had loadouts. With H4 you can pick weapons and a perk.

And armor now?

Darn.

I like this idea. I personally have thought of this since halo 3. But I do think that it brings issues and complications. And if one is better than the other than everyone would just use that one. Sorta like perks and attachments in Call of Duty. A lot of pros use the same perks. So if there was armor that had a advantage over another one, it would be too hard for beginners and it would make that player automatically better. Plus, then we can’t focus on customization. Instead of someone choosing a piece of armor because they like the way it looks, they will go to an alternative that offers a boost on the battlefield.

The Specializations (or “perks” as you call them) will change gameplay slightly. They’ve said that it won’t be anything too drastic. Just a extra clip of ammo or an extra grenade when you spawn. It’s not totally an even playing field, but it’s not completely one-sided.
