Halo 4 and Xbox 720 conflict?

Given that the ‘Xbox 720’ is rumoured to be hitting stores in 2013, won’t this create a massive conflict with Halo 4 be released only a year prior to that? I understand that Halo 5 is incredibly likely to be on the next-gen xbox, but this means that we’ll only have a year to enjoy Halo 4 which I don’t think is nearly enough.

Thoughts?

I understand that it may actually come out in 2014 which would be all well and good, but everyone seems to be leaning straight over to the Xbox 720 being released next year.

Update: TOTALLY WRONG, I’m completely mistaken.

> As far as the next generation Xbox console goes, nothing has been confirmed regarding a release date whatsoever. Microsoft has shot down rumors and confirmed that they will not be showing off any new hardware (that includes consoles) at this year’s E3, so that means we’ll likely have to wait until 2013 for it to be announced.

> With that in mind, I highly doubt we’d see a same-year release, just look at the industry in the past with the PS3, Wii, and WiiU - all were announced two years before release. I’d put my money down on a 2014 release, I’d honestly be really surprised if it released earlier, especially with Microsoft’s emphasis on the 360’s longevity.

> Even in the worse case scenario, that’ll essentially give Halo 4 a year of dedicated life, which is a lot longer than you can give most titles in today’s industry. It was the same situation with Halo 2, and everything turned out fine. However, I’d also bet that if the new Xbox were to come out in 2013, it’d be backwards compatible and we’d all be playing Halo 4 anyways.

> Either way, fear not about Halo 4’s future.

Just like we can play original xbox games on the 360, i think we shall be able to play 360 games on the “720” or whatever its going to be called.

They may re-release halo 4 for the next gen as a launch title or they may make it backwards compatible. But if not we may just have to keep our 360’s.

xbox 720 should be able to play 360 games, seems stupid not to, hope it plays originals too

halo 5 will be on the new xbox, if 343 start throwing out halo games every year i will lose faith in 343 and the series

Halo 5 won’t be a launch game. It will probably come out in a year or two after the “720” launches. It’s just like Halo 2. Halo 2 was released in 2004 (one year before the 360 launched). Halo 3 was released two years later (2007).

I really hope that achievements carry on to the new gen Xbox. I’m one achievement away in Halo Wars from having all achievements in halo 3, Halo wars, ODST, reach, and anniversary.

Oh, that’s totally true, completely forgotten about that. Never had any issues with that transition for Halo 2. Thankyou for the input.

Oh yeh. I forgot. When the nextbox comes out all older xboxs will cease to exist and dissapear, taking all the games away with them.

MS ain’t stupid, they’ll make sure you can play all the big and popular games on 720 when it launches, Halo 4, CoD, Gears, Forza etc. Otherwise no one would upgrade to a new console, since you wouldn’t have anything to play ^^
Halo 4 might get an ODST or similar expansion when 720 launches, at least a HD-texture pack would be nice ^^

I don’t think it will come out next year. Since the 360 was said to have a “lifespan” until around 2015 or so, I don’t think we will see the Xbox 720 until 2014. Since the Xbox 720 hasn’t even been announced at an E3 yet, so if you add 2 years to an E3, then you will get the approx date of release. I think it will be announced this year at E3, and that it will be set for 2014.

So Halo 5 will most likely be on the next gen Xbox if they plan on keeping the 3 year space in between games.

edit: so MS confirmed they won’t be announcing it this year? Or is that a rumour also? Either way, it will come out at earliest in 2014, possibly 2015.

I really appreciate that thought-out post, see, I always got the impression that the next-gen Xbox wouldn’t come out before 2014 because the Xbox 360’s cycle was still a bit from expiring, but I kind of got spooked by the whispering of it coming sooner than that. Thankyou for both the clarification and the hope you’ve instilled in me, all’s well.

Where are you getting 2013 and 2014 the new xbox isn’t even stated to release until at least 2015 since microsoft gave the 360 a 10 year shelf life and are sticking to that schedule.

Microsoft stated there is no news of the new xbox at E3 this year that is a guarantee.

Most likely what they will do is make it come out 1 year after Halo 4 like they did for Halo 2. When Halo 2 was release it took 1 year for the Xbox 360 to come out.
Now even though the Xbox 360 came out that didn’t stop people from playing Halo 2 since there was only less than 10 games that got release with the new system.

Now one thing you must realizes that if it’s hard for lazy people to save up money for DLC. Then imagine how long it’s going to take them to get a new system. Like some of my friends it took them like 3-8 months just to save up enough money to buy a new system.

No problem! There’s whispers every year around E3 time that one of the Big Three (Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony) will announce a new console, and generally most of the time all of the rumors turn out to be false. In the case of Microsoft, just look at the Xbox’s history: it was released in 2006, and 6 years later we have Kinect (which essentially turned the Xbox into a “new console”), a radical change in dashboard and UI, as well as a completely re-deigned machine altogether. I doubt Microsoft would bail on all of the effort they just put in to revamping the Xbox a mere two years after doing so. It’s safe to say the Xbox has at least another two years of life in it.

I read once that Microsoft’s goal was to get 8-10 years out of the 360. 2014 will be the 8th year the 360 has been on the market. If I had to predict anything, I’d say the next generation Xbox console will be announced in 2013, with a 2014 release.

Halo 2 released a year before the 360 on the original Xbox. So im sure its not a big deal. Plus just because something is rumored doesn’t mean you would believe it.

what makes you think halo 4 won’t be playable on xbox 720? i am pretty sure it will be playable on the xbox 720

A 10 year lifespan doesnt mean that microsoft will wait until 2015  Microsoft will release the new xbox next year. 8 Years of 360 is enough. Give us better hardware already. And i think there will be a way to play Halo4 on the new xbox. Microsoft is not stupid

Halo 2 dropped in 2004 and the xbox 360 came out in 2005. Halo 4 will still be good and popular, plus it takes awhile for a new console to develop.
