Halo 4 an identity Crisis

Is it just me or has the halo series really lost its identity. I remember when halo was an arena shooter with power weapons on map and equal starting weapons. That was halos identity. Now it seems we have a call of halo game. I am the only one who wished halo 4 was just a graphically improved version on halo 1,2,3 and stayed true to its roots

I agree but get ready to be torn to shreds by fan boys.

I’m ready it’s bound to happen no matter what you post

Ironically theyll call you a fake halo fan, when if they were a fan of halo they would miss actual HALO gameplay.

Halo Reach was the real beginning of the identity crisis. Honestly. I just want Halo 2.5, and I’m not afraid to admit it.

Halo 2 was hands down my favourite game of all time. Halo 3 was ok in keeping mostly similar to Halo 2, but they screwed up alot of important things, like the movement speed, and the BR (Halo 3’s BR was as random as a roll of the die). But if they just continued improving, and evolving the core Halo experience without adding all this extra crap, the series could have maintained it’s greatness.

I can’t even like the friggin’ plot of Halo anymore, because after Halo 2 they decided to overcomplicate and change things that already MADE SENSE as they were.

Mystery was WHY Halo was amazing. We never needed to know any more about the Forerunners than we did in Halo 1 and 2. We never needed to learn how/why the Flood were made, we never needed to learn about the Human/Forerunner war or any of that.

The entire Kilo-Five saga is a half–Yoinked!- excuse to make Elites the opposition again. The entire Forerunner saga fleshes out something that should have been left completely untouched, and Halo 4 HONESTLY feels like the Phantom Menace did to the Star Wars trilogy.

343i LUCASIFIED Halo. And is probably the start of something that, like the Star Wars Prequels, will simply get worse, and worse.

Playing anniversary slayer
Noticing very little difference between it and Halo 1

The only thing really out there about Reach is armor abilities, and there are game types that remove loadouts and abilities.

I disagree.

I think exploring who the forerunner were and what the flood were is fine. I really enjoyed the addition to the lore. The problem is 343 took it too far and put you face to face with the forerunner.

The forerunner should’ve just been a dead civilization with only left-on ghostly machines and AI’s left behind.

I was going to comment on this thread until I read everyone responses.

My answer would most likely get the typical, “You’re not a (real, true, die hard, veteran etc, etc) Halo fan then.”

That is what the Precursors are for now.

I’ll still pass on sharing my opinion. I’m not a big fan of the Halo community even though I love Halo and have been playing since CE.

All I would have to do is mention the fact that I think ODST and Halo Wars were two of the best Halo games and I would be attacked for it. I would become less of a Halo fan for thinking so according to the “true halo fans”. I’ve seen it all over the forums.

They should have added the classic playlists/settings along with the new playlists/settings besides only the new stuff. It doesn’t seem difficult at all but apparently to 343i it does being there really are no classic playlists with classic settings.

I also really liked odst the campaign was different but still very fun it was more about stealth then an all out guns a blazin action hero gameplay style. Never played halo wars I didn’t think rts would translate well to a console

I only have a few beefs with Halo 4. One is that Forerunners are referring to themselves as Forerunners. That just seems… odd.

The other is that there seems to be a large number of call outs to other game franchises. Subtle, but still enough to make me think of them and primarily in the form of various helmets and the design of a certain Commander’s uniform. Well, former Commander anyway.

I like the new game, and have been a fan of each new Halo game. Each have their own merits and each expand the Halo story.

Still, my favorites are H3 and ODST. Granted, ODST may be because I always thought they looked cool as hell and I was a big Firefly fan.

halo still has its roots. It still plays like the halo i grew up with. And my friends agree.

I find halo 4 to play like a mix of halo 2/3 and call of duty. Perhaps I am just old fashioned and enjoyed the simplicity of the previous halo games reach excluded. And just need to adapt
