I would like to commend 343’s attempt at recreating Halo. It can’t have been an easy task, and it’s clear to see they have put a lot of time, effort and thought into making it as Halo-esque as possible. And for the most of it, they have. The look and feel of the campaign is spot on, I’m not particularly far in but I would never have been able to tell the difference.
However Halo’s big seller is multiplayer, and I think this is where 343 has fallen down.
There’s just a few points I’d like to make that I would love to see changed because in my opinion this is where the multiplayer let’s itself down.
Ordinance - I think ordinance is great, its a cool idea, but it takes away what was great in the other games online modes. I know this has been said in MANY topics but seriously your system of stopping regular weapon spawns and replacing that with ordinance is awful, truly. Games revolved around them spawn points, created battles, whether the gametype was slayer or not. It was great fun, and could be a complete game changer and breaker. But in Halo 4 the regular weapon spawns are limited, all I know are the snipers on Ragnarok. It’s also completely unfair when the enemy team are getting a load of sniper and rocket drops while I just sit there trying to decide what will benefit me most out of plasma grenades/concussion rifle/speed.
Also I noticed on the autosentries description “command a key battlefield chokepoint”
What chokepoint? There really aren’t that many.
My solution - Nerf ordinance so it’s just the perks, speed, damage etc, maybe a couple others and put back in regular weapon spawns
Weapon despawn times.
When I finally get good ordinance and I run to pick up my Binary Rifle then die, fair enough I ran out. But when I get back there 7 seconds later and its despawned its like WOW what a damn waste. I probably won’t get that weapon again for 4 games.
Solution - Increase despawn time
Spawning (this is just a personal annoyance I don’t know about you)
Somehow the spawning feels awful. It’s almost as if there are no two sides to the map. I appreciate you want to spread out the spawning to avoid spawn kills, but there’s seriously nothing worse than being spawned in a random part on the map with no team around, miles from any decent spots only to die running there.
Solution - Re-locate spawn points to one side of each map and keep them more local to each other.
Weapons again.
I would have posted this in the other section but i’d forgotten this little bug until now.
I don’t particularly know how to explain my hatred here, but what the f**k is up with these DMR’s BR’s and Lightrifles. I mean I love them weapons. Halo 3, BR -Yoink!-. Reach, DMR -Yoink!-. Honestly I am NOT bad with these weapons, I’m a pretty damn good Reach/3 player but with the combination of spawning and lack of weapon spread I find myself walking round the corner to be killed in about 0.5 seconds by 3 guys from across the map. I’m not saying nerf these, but buff some other weapons! Shotguns, scatterguns and swords are next to useless in your multiplayer, and I honestly never thought I’d say buff them in my life.
Matchmaking system.
PLEASE go back to the gametypes of if someone quits, no-one rejoins.
I can very easily see how it looks like a simple case of “oh unbalanced teams that’s unfair, let’s just add someone back in”
The main reason of people leaving is their team getting buttraped and they can’t handle it anymore. So why do I want to get put into a game where my team is getting absolutely slammed all over the place 550/200?
Solution - re-introduce penalties for leaving, stop allowing people to join midway games.
