First and foremost, I want to state that I am quite impressed with the potential of Halo 4’s multiplayer. I watched literally every single gameplay from E3 I could. I have been on the Halo scene since mid Halo 2, and I like that 343 is trying to revolutionize Halo and spark the population back to where it should be after Bungie left us with a game that was a “disservice to the Halo franchise”.
I am very understanding that 343 is trying to balance the competitive scene with the casual scene, I get that. I have been playing competitively since about mid Halo 3. The MLG playlist is where I often reside, and many casual gamers flame the opinions of the stereotypical “competitive” player because of their lack of creativity and/or whatever possible reason. The competitive player, however, wants what is best for this franchise. Halo is a beautiful game that plays like no other FPS. The addition of these perks/loadouts/equipment/ordinance drops is all an effective way of drawing a larger variety of gamers to Halo. As long as they are implemented and balanced correctly they can even be used in the competitive scene. I personally like the idea.
After watching some of the gameplay, I have formed a couple opinions I would like to voice for discussion and debate:
The Battle Rifle
The Battle Rifle was a four shot kill in Halo 2 and Halo 3. I think I read somewhere that the BR kill time is roughly 1.8 seconds and the DMR/Carbine are about 1.4 seconds. Not only is the BR harder to use because all 3 shots of the burst must hit in order to kill, but it’s kill time is even longer. I think it should be changed to four shot kill in order to balance all three. In fact, I believe its kill time should be less than that of the DMR and Carbine because it is more difficult to connect ALL the shots. Also, if it was a five shot kill, that would require 15 bullets – the BR clip holds 36 bullets – the perfect number for killing three people if there was a four shot kill. If it was five, you could only kill two people and that just is venturing too far from Halo’s original roots.
The Sounds
In an interview from BRAVO, I heard that the sound is a major issue compared to other Halo games. I heard there was a bunch of pointless noises during muliplayer gameplay. In the original Halo’s (including Reach) the only sounds were gunshots, grenades, footsteps…and that’s how it should remain. If there are pointless sounds going off on the map that can really take away from gameplay…many people rely on sound to kill, believe it or not.
Here’s the interview, which I found very informative…even to the casual gamer.
Also, what is up with the changing of the sounds of weapons? The Sniper Rifle’s sound was so unique, and it stayed quite similar throughout the franchise. Why change it? That’s just asking for arguments, why change something that has never been questioned or debated on until now? It is just stupid in my opinion and calls for unnecessary arguments.
The Sniper Rifle
The Sniper Rifle is hideous, I’m sorry. As beautiful as this game looks, the BR, DMR, Carbine, the Sniper is just a big fail. I understand that it is practically not going to change, and I have accepted that with it’s slow rate of fire that this could possibly be worst sniper of any Halo series. The sniper rifle is a power weapon, and it should be obvious that it is a power weapon. The rate of fire in Halo 2 is to me the best, because it let people who were good with the sniper shine. They could control the map. Also, why is there so much nonsense in the scope?
Why is it necessary to add the two diagonal “things” right outside the reticule? It may be aesthetically pleasing but why not keep it like every other Halo. This is another thing that just seems 100% unnecessary and is just looking for an argument.
The Maps
From what I have seen and heard, Haven is a very small map. Does this mean that there are no more maps that offer competitive play and that all these maps are large objective maps for the casual gamer? Does this mean no more Lockout/Midship(Heretic)/Warlock/Beaver Creek/Guardian type maps? These are the maps that made Halo, in my opinion. They were awesome for the casual gamer and the competitive gamer alike.
I don’t mean to be repetitive and start arguments, but I just want to see the franchise succeed because I merely love the game.

Haha thanks man, I understand that this is repetitive and all, but it is in hopes that quite possibly the constant repetition might strike a developer to make just one change which could make Halo 4 that much better.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe, MAYBE, they have a reason to dislike MLG and “competitive” player? That maybe you should take a look at yourselves and find out how to improve?
What I don’t understand is how all the weapons suddenly sound different. The Needler in Halo 4 sounds more like a UNSC weapon. As I’ve said before, they can’t just install new software onto a weapon and the sound is changed, if you know what I mean. I think this is a bigger problem than it seems. The weapons need to sound more similar to previous Halo games.
Another problem I have is with the look of the sniper rifle. That sniper rifle should have been in Reach. In my opinion, it’s a complete downgrade with the real scope in it, rather than the visor. It just looks silly overall and nothing like a Halo sniper. It doesn’t sound great but hopefully that was just the equipment at E3 as Frank says.
The multiplayer announcer was perfect in Halo Reach, why did they change some of the announcements? I was hoping we’d have the same one for another few games. One thing I don’t understand about the new announcer is he says “One minute remaining”, then he says “thirty seconds remain” and then “ten seconds” - That really doesn’t make sense to me.
The above are three small problems I have with Halo 4 so far.
As Ranger said, thanks for putting your dislikes/concerns in an organized, constructive post. It makes things so much easier than having to respond to a wall of blind raging and bashing.
Keep in mind, things are still changing. Such as sounds. I believe Frankie said that the sound wasn’t going exactly as planned due to the TVs they were playing on. Some things weren’t acting right. It should be better on different TVs, and sounds aren’t completely final. Also, the weapons are still being tuned.
There is a new feature called Cortana Web, which will closely monitor feedback and gameplay issues after relase. If the BR is severely under-powered or unused, its logical that they will do something to fix it.
As for your competitive map/small map concerns… remember that these maps will now be designed in mind for everyone having Sprint. So small maps likely won’t be as small as they used to be. But I believe that once you’re used to default Sprint, even in MLG, it won’t seem like the maps are too different. It shouldn’t be too hard.
I’m not sure how much appearances will be changing, like the sniper, but I agree. The sniper does look somewhat odd… different. Perhaps we’ll get used to it.

Apparently many people think it is a place for spamming blind hate, raging, flaming, and jumping to conclusions.
Voicing an opinion is one thing, spamming, raging, and flaming your opinion is another.
I have not played, only watched others play online so i might not be informed of certain things.
THIS IS NOT A RANT, only suggestions that could possibly make some changes, so if your going to say “too much like cod, its almost as bad as reach” go to a different forum. Halo 4 is Spectacular, im just not saying all of the great things they achived because that wont make the game better. (im also making a topic on this)
The audio sounds cheap. Previous halo’s audio was fine. Too much of a change
Promethean vision seems little OP. They should make cool down time longer, or range only 5 meters than your mini-map. someone suggested anyone using Pvision (if in range) should be shown where its being used to notify others (the enemy) their exact location, or a hence to were they are at. A tone down in generall will be nice
grenades should have same effect , dmg, as halo 3. but its good were its at
4.i see no one use thruster packs yet so it isnt that great. heard it disorientates you, not that fast or doesn’t go long. I think it should give you a boost to start with thats slightly faster than sprint then slow down to sprint speed. Or allow people to shoot, but not allowed to scope, while using it. Or allow it to glide if you jump and thruster. or ect.
5 Camo wasnt put in the games but heard its going to be an ability. Either make less red dots on the map when using, or make it a counter to P Vision.
The hologram is still underpowered as poo. Make NO or slight sound when using it; allow it to crouch walk if you are crouched when hitting button, or sprint; The initial effect of the hologram is light blue for about 6-8 meters so shorten that; and most importantly, let the hologram appear as a RED dot on the map to enemies. its so easy to not be fooled by the gram. It is easy to fool long range but its not useful at long ranges. Also to add to the counter to Pvision, when you use hologram the Pvision will be confused for 3 seconds and only show the hologram, after 3 seconds it will see both hologram an d player

Also, as someone posted, the BR isnt with Par with the DMR and Carbine because all 3 shots have to land, only enough to kill 2 people with good precision, slower killing time. I agree. Also, I believe it would be better if Holograms was removed completely. I can not remember the last time I seen it used effectively (unless you are a Halo first-timer). The Hologram simply doesn’t sell it, even to the casual gamer. I believe with 343’s creativity they can create a better AA to replace it.

The audio as far as I know, is interpreted by the vast majority of the community as a great improvement. I tend to think that the audio is incredible in this rendition.
Drawing a conclusion from what you haven’t seen… interesting… I’ve seen the thruster used to great success to dodge grenades and start a retreat.
The new holo, has reticule reddening properties, appears much more like a real player, and appears as a red dot on the radar.
From all the videos I’ve seen, the needler has been put in ordinance for a reason. Its above a primary weapon according to Dev commentary.

I’m going to 100% disagree with you on the audio. Of all the players I have come across that have watched E3 footage they heavily dislike the audio. It is DEFINITELY NOT interpreted by the VAST MAJORITY OF THE COMMUNITY AS A GREAT IMPROVEMENT. I have no idea where you are getting this idea from.
The audio at E3 (alpha build?) was not Halo, and that’s just that…nothing more can be said other than the FACT that the other Halo’s carried a sound throughout each game that was similar. Halo 4 (for some reason) is trying to change these sounds that Halo gamers have been accustomed to for literally years.
Maybe you’re not an avid Halo fan, or you haven’t the right videos?
