Halo 4 - 4 steps forward 2 steps back

I think 343i is doing the Bethesda or Bioware on us.

Producing great games but taking out parts that really bring the series back to feeling really simplified.

Bioware shortened the skill trees in mass effect and turn Dragon Age from a very intuitive beautiful and fun RPG into a simple easy hack n slash (with Dragon Age 2)

Bethesda going from Morrowind to Oblivion, combined the shoulder plates with the cuirrass, from Oblivion to Skyrim, the combined the cuirrass and the greaves. This was to quote unquote “have more NPCs on screen.” and one of the major complaints of Skyrim is that the cities and landscape feel empty and dead.

I’m not sure if it has been confirmed or not but with Theater being clipped out of campaign and still only be one player view and only restricted to war games, it really feels like 343 is going in the direction other game developers have.

I love what they did with Halo 4, but taking out certain functions (theater for campaign and MM)) and adding in useless functions (quick time events) really makes me wonder. What will they do to Halo 5?

Anyways, just a thought, still looking forward to Halo 4, though.

Think about Fallout 3 to New Vegas. They added a lot of new features, but the game initially had abundant and horrible glitches that would ruin the game. Of course one is a RPG and the other is a FPS, but nonetheless at least Halo 4 appears to be a well polished game.

For every feature that is added, more provisions have to included as well. Just adding one extra feature could create a necessity for provisions that require exponential time to devise compared to that of the respective feature. Considering this, you have to realize that games can only sell for so much therefore limiting the amount of time and resources that can be put into them. Of course the ingenuity, dedication and execution of the development team is key in determining how intricate a game can be as well.
