Because it´s good. When Halo 3 came out you can still play Halo 2 and some players did, but yet Halo 3 had his population always over 100k.

Not necessarily, some people just like certain titles more than the other titles in a series.

Ummm… they were just about done with Microsoft controlling their decisions for Halo, that’s why they gave it up.

by the time halo 3 was released, 360 gained status a was more popular than the original xbox. I’m sure that some stayed with the xbox and played halo 2, but halo 3 was just too popular and fun. Back then you didn’t have so many good shooters to enjoy other than halo 3 and cod 4. So yea, the amount of games in the franchise does make a difference. Just don’t expect halo 5 to be a 100k holder for much long after its release.

But Halo 3 was much more anticipated, fans knew what to expect, it was the final game of the trilogy, and it was either that or Halo 2 that allowed online multiplayer for the Halos soooo… yeah. A lot of factors supporting why Halo 3 had a lot more people on a normal basis.

Halo 2 was up during Halo 3’s reign. The availability of a previous Halo does not affect the population of the newer games too much.

When Xbox 360 was released you can play Halo 2 on it, i played Halo 2 on 360 until i get Halo 3. Players need to enjoy a game to keep the population count high, Halo 3 keep up with COD 4 and COD WaW and keep a good amount of numbers with that games. The true is some players (soo many) do not enjoy this game because it´s completely different from the previous games, games that they enjoy and play every day, when you love to play a game you will always come back to that game.

Basically this… video games are just becoming too redundant nowadays, thank God for Bungie and their creativity and originality…

Even though you add up Halo 2s, 3s and Reach’s population the overall population will only jump slightly. It is a factor, but a small one indeed.
You could probably add about 10,000 players.
That is to imply though that all who plays the older Halo games, would choose to go to Halo 4 if Halo 3 and Reach were removed. I know I wouldn’t at least.

Obviously. Many would choose play other games over Halo 4 because they are not in favor of how Halo 4 plays. Like they did (When Halo 3, and Reach were still up).
