There was a time when Halo was the king of console FPS and XBL. It wasn’t taken down by another game that was imitating Halo, all of those supposed “Halo Killers” floundered and died. Instead Halo was dethroned by a game (COD) that did its own thing that was NOTHING like the then current king, Halo 3.
The history lesson here is that you don’t beat the top dog by doing what it does best. You beat it by doing what YOU do best.

That’s wrong. Before CoD nothing else was even in the vicinity of Halo’s popularity. It’s why the designation Halo killer even came about. Everyone was gunning for Halo.

It may have been the top “XBOX” fps game, but in terms of “ALL” FPS games, it is not the top game.
Counter-strike has been the pinnacle of online FPS shooters far longer than halo’s been around. It is the most popular tournament FPS game around and also the most profitable/lucrative.
As of August 2011, the Counter-Strike franchise has sold over 27 million units.

EDIT: Besides, that’s assuming there’s only ONE job opening, which sometimes isn’t the case.
Good post man, I completely agree. Halo needs to go back to its roots and do what it does best. Not imitate COD and put all this randomness into the game. Back to basics.

its applying for my attention, and the fact of the matter is why should I settle for a fun game when I can play the most fun game

Completly agree with you there, just hope 343i goes back to the basic’s.
343 is doing their own thing. Its hard to find a game thats “orignal.” It hasn’t been that way in the FPS genre in a loooooong time. Both COD and halo arn’t orignal and haven’t ever been. 343 is taking elements and adding their own spin on it.
Besides your logic is flawed. COD is the most sucessful FPS and it has stolen from other games and added their spin to it. You want to know reality? No one cares about orignality. Its an argument made up by weak people who need to blame something instead of just dealing with what you got. Its about how good you can do something. For example cods zombies. The survival wave based aspect is hardly orignal let alone with zombies. But the way they pulled it off. The way they did their spin. THATS what made it popular.
In short your wrong. Games haven’t been orignal let alone in the past decade. Oh and halo 4 is amazing. You don’t have to like the new changes. But trying to say they are failing at what they do best is just wrong. They gave us a -Yoink!- good halo game.

It’s not even at number 3. Check the Jan 7th live activity it’s number 4…

Your analogies don’t carry over…
Halo still has more players than 99% of other games being played, just because they’re not first doesn’t mean they didn’t make the cut.
