Halo 3's gun sound effects [don't] suck!!!

I just bought the white, 500GB Xbox One that comes with a digital copy of HMCC and I’ve noticed everything is great, save for the gun sound effects in Halo 3. They are virtually non-existent. It sounds as though every shot is muffled, muted by a silencer, while all other sounds (music, voices, etc.) are perfectly unhindered. I have the 19GB, day-one update installed and Halo 3: ODST installed for a grand total of 70.54GB. I have researched an April and May update, which correct Halo 3’s campaign sound effects, but I can’t install them; I have already tried to reinstall the game to no avail and do a hard-reboot to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions, or should I contact Microsoft’s customer service and see if they can send the updates to my system? It is not game-breaking, but it really dampens the experience and -Yoink- on my love for the game. Thanks for the help, in advance.

I have the same bundle. I haven’t had this issue… as odd as it sounds, are you blinded by nostalgia? I noticed a lot of the gun sounds were lacking, especially after playing Halo 4.
As for technical solutions… the only option might be to uninstall Chief Collection and reinstall.
A time consumer for sure, but might be the only viable fix.

That digital copy must have taken a week to install!

Halo 3’s AR sounds like a typewriter. All click and no boom.

Maybe it is nostalgia, I remember it having more oomph to it on 360, but of course that was over seven years ago. Since Halo 4, hell since Halo: CE Anniversary on the 360, I guess I thought every Halo game had weapon sounds with that much boom. All nostalgia aside, 343 should have upgraded the audio. I mean they spent the time to rework it in 1080p/60fps. Hopefully, they will do future updates, but what I’ve read from other posts, it seems HMCC is as good as dead; all their work will be on Halo 5. As an aside, AlpModenaSedan, it took a long -Yoink- time, seemed like years. But I am still having a blast playing through CE for the umpteenth time.

Yeah, Halo 2 and Halo 3 had some terribly compressed sounds for the AR, BR, and SMG. Halo 2 Classic sounds are less compressed, but still terrible if you try putting an old copy of Halo 2 into your 360 or original.

They’re not best sound effects. But they are definitely better than 4s. BR sounds like a cricket chirping there.

Doesn’t sound any different to me honestly. The only thing wrong with Halo 3’s sound was the directional sound where something sounded like it was coming from behind but it was in front or away from you which is fixed now.

Now I feel like a real -Yoink-! The sound is fine, excellent even. I have four hdmi ports on my television and I hadn’t tampered with the sound settings on the port I have my Xbox One hooked up to. Halo 3 sounds like it did years ago. I rarely rant on the internet or forums, but I love Halo too damn much. I need to amend the title of this post, so I don’t piss anyone off. Sorry folks, I was being a -Yoink-. Everything is great.

energy sword in halo 2 and 3 sound boss. the sword in h2a and 4 sound -Yoink- as

I googled this issue and this is the topic i came too…youre not alone all of my games on my digital install work great but halo 3s gun sounds are definitely muted…bump

let me know if you have any luck fixing this thanks

Sounds fine to me.

Listen to the guns from Halo 2 Anniversary (especially the sniper, magnum, and shotgun), then listen to the guns from any other game.

I’ve noticed halo 3’s weapon volume is quite low…

Pretty much what I had to do was alter the sound settings on my television and I set the sound, via the Xbox One sound settings, to stereo uncompressed. The original factory settings have it set to 5.1 uncompressed audio. Since I don’t have my television hooked up to a surround sound system, I changed the preconfigurations and this seemed to help. The sound is better, even great, and, therefore, I had to retract my original complaint. This comes after I uninstalled then reinstalled the game, so I reasoned that had nothing to do with it. But, as others have noted, it still does not sound as good as the other three games in the collection. But it sounds like it did and should, at the very least.

Yeah, as far as I’m aware (feel free to correct me on this), Bungie always produced its sound effects in-house, while 343i goes out to shooting ranges and records actual weapons (with a certain amount of editing afterwards, presumably).

Hence the difference between Halo 2 classic’s SMG, and Halo 2 Anniversary’s (which is actually a Thompson SMG).

Listen to Halo 2’s gun sounds in classic mode (yeah, it’s dated, but still). Listen to Destiny’s gun sounds compared to Halo 4 or Halo 5. Bungie just has some weak sounding weapons. Besides the BR chirp in Halo 4, 343 have done an amazing job with their sound design. The H5 beta blew me away in terms of audio production.
