Halo 3 was meh to me, here are my pros and cons.

I know Halo 3 is many people’s favorite halo game in terms of campaign and multiplayer. But let me list my pros and cons, i’ll start with the cons:

  1. At launch it had some issues.
  2. There is only 2 out of 10 missions that were fun to play in the campaign.
  3. The online multiplayer feels too outdated even when it first came out.
  4. Dual wielding is unnecessary.
  5. The story was not good.
  6. All the characters are unlikable and boring.
  7. The graphics were inferior for its time and feels incredibly dated today.
  8. Fighting the covenant is annoying because they just run at you to into your fire and are a dumb AI.
  9. The Grunts are too overpowered.
  10. This game was released when sprinting was in many other games during that time. Halo 3 does’nt have it.

My pros:

  1. The campaign missions “Cortana” and “Halo” were the best missions because of the carefully crafted and coherent level design work effort that were put in them.
  2. The in-game cutscenes with Cortana vs Gravemind was absolutely outstanding and well executed as i was completely not annoyed by any of this whatsoever.
  3. The Guilty Spark boss fight was super epic and challenging.
  4. Halo’s best enemies to fight are the Flood of course, in Halo 3 theyre fun too. I like how the Flood do not behave like generic monstrous zombies and just run at you to do a melee attack or just be braindead annoying like the stupid covenant.
  5. The Arbiter was the only friendly AI that actually killed the most enemies for you and he showed up more often in the campaign when you needed him more often. It wasnt like he only showed up to only give exposition and then disappear during a fight. He was really useful.
  6. Firefight was a really fun gamemode… for Halo 3 ODST of course.

Halo 3 was overall meh to me. Who else here can agree with me?

While I don’t generally agree with you, and I wish you were a bit more specific, I do see where you are coming from and you do have some valid points.

Granted it’s your opinion but i’ll go through the list regardless:

  1. What issues? Without evidence this is a baseless claim.
  2. Opinion and not fact.
  3. Halo 2 was still the dominant FPS on consoles and Halo 3 was a continuation of this. It wasn’t until CoD 4 that the casuals started to leave.
  4. Opinion but agreed as it breaks the golden triangle of Halo.
  5. Opinion again. I would like to see your reasons why.
  6. Opinion and same as before, would like to see your reasons.
  7. The graphics weren’t groundbreaking but they did make use of some advanced rendering techniques and did allow for larger maps than its competitors. Regardless, it was a clear step over Halo 2 but I won’t deny there was some controversy (Zanzibar and Last Resort comparisons were often made).
  8. The AI had a pact mentality and worked together more often than before. AI being dumb is common in most games, including the aforementioned Call of Duty series.
  9. What.
  10. Sprinting wasn’t a popular mechanic at that point. It only rose to popularity once Call of Duty 4 really took off. Otherwise, it was just another mechanic to differentiate and didn’t help make any game superior to Halo’s arena combat.

I’m not going to go through your pro’s for the game but as the above poster mentioned, clarify your points more so they can be easier to discuss.

Yeah I pretty much agree with what you said. OP does put a lot of opinion in it. Really can’t agree with grunts being overpowered though.

343 Guilty Spark SURE was “challenging.”

I can say I dont agree with you t all. I have played all of the games and I would say that Halo 3 has the best multiplayer but Halo 2 has the best campaign.

I dont like Halo 3s multiplayer. To me Reach and Halo 4 had the best multiplayer. If Reach didnt have Armor Lock or sprinting, then i wouldve never had played it at all. Halo 4s multiplayer got rid of armor lock(which i dont know why!) But at least they kept sprinting. Halo 4 really takes me back to those good ol days of Call of Duty , im so greatful that 343i can learn some new ideas from other modern(and original) games and put them on a Halo game.

Is this a troll, or are you being serious? 343 deleted armor lock as they found it too overpowered, but they added the hardlight shield for the replacement of armor lock, but made it more fair.

Let’s talk about talk about low effort subjectivity 11 years too late.

> 9. The Grunts are too overpowered.

I’m looking at my Can(s) of Canadian Club & looking at this & I’m just scratching my head right now

Halo 3 is liked by so many people as a result of Halo CE and Halo 2 being so popular. Halo 3’s release was at the culmination of Halo’s success. So the influx of new players was much larger than both 2 and CE. Naturally, the game a person first plays of a franchise/series is normally the game they’ll like the most out of the whole series. So Halo 3 was the first halo game for a ton of people = most popular.

Personally, I can’t stand halo 3 and playing the TMCC social slayer list has made that opinion even stronger. Halo 3 is so rough around the edges. It’s clunky. It’s ugly. It has a terrible weapon sandbox with the worst weapons ever put in a halo game - worst assault rifle, worst pistol by a mile, and the spiker… Then you factor in BR spread, overpowered vehicles that were impossible to destroy, and the mechanic where two players melee’ing each other, even if not at the same time, both would die. It has so many horrible multiplayer maps as well. I am literally excited every time Halo 3 doesn’t come up in the social slayer playlist.

So to the OP, right on. Halo 3 was meh. One of the things that kept it refreshing was being able to record game clips in theater was amazing. Watching my highlights post-game was awesome. Second, the introduction of forge was another awesome feature. Lastly, having several different armor variations was fun. But as far as overall game play? Yuck. I’m glad Halo 3 is long in the past. I’d take Reach over it any day and I’m not a fan of Reach.
