Halo 3 surpasses halo 4 in population

as we all know, Microsoft plans on releasing Halo 3 as a free game for xbox gold members on the 16th…

that being said, do you think its possible that halo 3 can surpass halo 4 in population following its release?

I think so, considering how a large number of the halo trilogy fans that left halo 4 still have an xbox 360,

Also the fact that its going to be free garners attention alone…

or, it could just have a slight little burst in pop for a few days then go back to normal, like magic 2013 and rainbow 6 did…

But, considering how bad halo 4’s doing now, I wouldn’t count having halo 3 beat it out…

what do you guys think…

UPDATE: I’m also hear rumors that both halo reach and halo ODST are going to be free next month, being part of the last 2 free games before xbox 1 comes out…

now im not going to saying that officially until I find proof, but in the event that its true, then the population would most likely increase even MORE so, since all the DLC for H3 will be in ODST…

UPDATE: looks like a 5 year old game with dlc locked playlist was still able to get even higher population than halo 4…

Who knows? It. Might even stick for longer than what I thought…

343, I hope you learn for. This

Halo 3 will definitely suprasse halo 4, for about not more than a week, if so much. People who have never played halo 3 before will think that halo 3 is outdated cause you dont have sprint, aiming is hard and there are few playlists avaiable to non dlc users. However to all the population who once had halo 3 and liked it, they are going to stay probably. Everyone else are going back to GTA 5, Halo 4, Black Ops 2 or whatever they like to play

very likely, halo 4 population just seems to decrease more and more, with the release of halo 3 being free for a while, I think the majority of fans will be on halo 3

Prediction: Halo 3’s population will not increase by that much.

It may appear on Major Nelson’s XBL activity chart, but that chart only counts unique users in a week, not unique users in a day or total at once.

For a short while

i dont know man, halo 3 probably has 1 of the better pops of older games, even as of now when its not freev yet…

This could skyrocket

It could, until people realise they need to buy DLC for a “free” game

Sure it will shoot up a bit for a little while, but then. Once people start reaching for that AA button and its not there, realize that the gameplay is much slower, lack of armor, guns, and everything that they are now accustomed to, they will leave and return to H4.

What’s even more shocking is they need to pay for Xbox Live, Internet Connection and even electricity before they can gain access to a so called free game.

Did all the halo 3 userbase trade in their games? I mean, if they aren’t playing halo 3 now, why will they when the game they already own is available for free?

I’m not saying halo 3 wasn’t great, I just don’t see how a game these hardcore players should already have being made free will suddenly cause its population to spike.

Whats stopping all those millions from playing right now?

Will it? Yes. Halo 4’s pop is dropping fast anyway.

Will it stay for long? Hopefully. This would show 343 what Halo fans would rather play, and MAYBE tell 343 how to design Halo Xbox One.

Gosh I hope so. I’m going back to Halo 3 for sure. I hope it blows Halo 4 out of the water and shows 343i what Halo fans really want.

Hardly, or have you all forgotten Halo 3 has most of its playlists DLC REQUIRED? while the DLCS wont become free?

Sure those players that had already played Halo 3 in the past and have the DLC or the ODST multiplayer disc will be able to enjoy the full game but new players will find them selves locked out of 90% of the game meaning they will most likely return to H4 where they can experience the full game, plus we all saw the rage that the temp DLC required on H4 sparked so I doubt any new players will stay in H3 only vets will.

Heroic is free if i recall… but thats not a whole lot of good on its own…

anyway, heres my own opinion on this: halo 3 will see a MINIMALISTIC growth in population for a short while… you have to take some things into account:

  1. a lot of the people who download this because its the current free game will likely take on the campaign mode first, and possibly visit the MP after, if at all…

  2. the game is old… it may have been good, but its old… its not longer maintained, which means lag and problems occur, often, i can’t get one stable game on H3 anymore…

  3. new players will likely not bother with the MP long if they do go on it, due to the harsh limits of available playlists… meaning they’ll get bored of pretty much just slayer rather fast…

  4. most people who are full DLC owners will likely be playing every now and then already…

so in conclusion, yes, the population of halo 3 will increase for a time… only in certain playlists, and it wont last long, so i dont think halo 3 is going to best halo 4 in the long run… just for a week or two tops…

that, or get beat out by the next free halo game, reach, which I hear is going to also be free next month for xbox gold members…

i dont have proof, so dont quote me on that, just word of mouth…

this. i say not a chance. anyone who wanted to play halo 3 already has and moved on. some may come back for nostalgia but not many i think

when it comes to new people, you can get halo 3 for literally 5 bucks at gamestop. i severely doubt they are waiting to save 5 dollars to try it.

People seem to forget just how popular Halo used to be. If anyone really wanted to play Halo 3, the chances are they own it already and could do just that.

The game going free might bump the population to about 10k, but that’s it. I think people have set their expectations way too high and are expecting Halo 3 to go back to 200k or something ridiculous. It won’t. It probably won’t surpass Halo 4.

No way.

If people wanted to play Halo 3 matchmaking they already would be. Everyone already has it.

> then the population would most likely increase even MORE so, since all the DLC for H3 will be in ODST…

No, it wouldn’t. ODST came with two discs. One campaign and the other was Halo 3’s multiplayer. If ODST were to go free, it would be Disc One and Disc One only.
