Halo 3 should not be the standard for Halo 4

I’m completely serious. I would much rather see Halo 4 be it’s own beast, then take after Halo 3. Halo 3 was the second worst game in the series, I’m surprised how many people refer to it as “Classic” and claim that things should be “Like Halo 3” When it was honestly the game we all hated when we were anticipation of Reach, and hoping it would fix all the problems we had with 3.

Honestly I think Halo CE and Halo 2 are the only truly great Halo games. Why? Because I found that both myself, and the greater community, were able to love both of these games for their entire 3 year runs up until the next release.

I never thought to myself “Halo 2 sucked so bad compared to 1. I hope 3 makes Halo not suck anymore.” (like I did with Halo 3, and do with Reach) when Halo 3 was coming. I just thought “OMG another Halo I LOVE HALO.”.

Have you all forgotten BR Spread? Hit Registration? Regenerator? Bubble Shields? Shield Doors? AR Starts (AKA Rush-Melee central)? All the crap you had to put up with? I haven’t. And I don’t want any of that stuff to make it’s way into Halo 4 either.

I’ll admit, Halo 3 is a lesser of two evils between 3 and Reach. But in the end, it still isn’t what I want Halo 4 to live up to.

Halo 4 is a hybrid between halo 3 and reach. So it is its own beast. But wether you were around for it or not every halo after halo CE was complained about in one way or another on how its “too different” etc. Halo 2 is mainly thought of “the best halo” as it was one of the first halo’s for many AND it was one of the first xbox live video games. All halo’s have had its own set of issues. Plain and simple.

I think you’re right about Halo 3 not being classic. But it is still really fun. Aggravating, but fun.

I agree that Halo 4 shouldn’t try to live up to a previous Halo. It should be it’s own game.

This is a brand new trilogy. It’s like we get to re-exprerience Halo from the beginning. We got to see Halo evolve with Bungie from C.E. to Reach. Now we get to see what happens with 343 from Halo 4 - 6 and whatever comes in-between. None or Most of us went into C.E. with no expectations. There was nothing else to compare it to. While this is impossible for Halo 4, I still think this is how it should be treated.

Forget C.E. - Reach. That is in the past. (Don’t really forget it cuz those are great games but I think you get the point). Experience Halo 4 through C.E. eyes if you can. And get ready for 10 years of new Halo.

The answer to this is simple: Halo 3 is the comparison for Halo 4 and is considered great because we are currently live in a generation where the majority of fans first Halo game was Halo 3. I grew up in the Halo 2 generation, so naturally I gravitate towards it and refer to it as a “classic” and “the best game of the franchise”.

While I agree with OP to an extent (and by extent, I mean I agree with him on the ground that I want Halo 4 to be it’s own beast), but, this post says it all; every Halo game had a kink in it, and every Halo game, nay, every game PERIOD will have a kink in it that people will point out and complain about. But, that’s not to say that some games are worse than others (while I like Reach, I will admit that it was the worst Halo game out of the series). That being said, I have a feeling that Halo 4 will be towards the top of Halo games. In fact, I pray that it is the best game in the series. But, that is just me.

Exactly. Why do I think Halo CE and 2 were both great? They didn’t have anything to live up to. Halo CE was it’s own game, Halo 2 was it’s own game. Halo 3 tried to be “Halo 2.5” and it just didn’t work out. Then Reach said “We’re sorry for Halo 3, we will try NOT to be Halo 2” and they deviated way too far off the beaten path.

Halo 4 needs to be it’s own game. But it should still feel like it belongs as a Halo game when it gets there.

Exactly, my friend. And I firmly believe, after what we have witnessed and what others have witnessed FIRST HAND, that it is indeed its own game, and it most CERTAINLY feels like it is a Halo game at the core.

I agree-ish about feeling good about Halo 4. There are alot of things about Halo 4 I’ve seen that excite me, such as the faster kill times, and movement speed. To be honest, whenever I play something like MLG, or Anniversary in Halo Reach I always have more fun with it, and I think the faster kill times, and movement speed are a major factor in that. (And I gotta admit, something about dat pistol.) And seeing movement speed and kill times jacked up in Halo 4 really makes me tingly.

And then there are things like the Custom Loadouts. Which I’m both skeptical and excited for. In one hand we are introducing a Perk system that could tilt imbalance into the game. In the other, I can finally spawn with the basic weapon I want to use, instead of scouring the map for a Carbine, just to not have any advantage over the BR I dropped for it. Big plus IMO.

Halo 3 was such a steaming pile of garbage when it comes to HALO games. Reach is better than it in a sense that Reach is actually smooth. Halo 3 was a sloppy choppy beatdown fest held on some of the worst maps in Halo. Worst maps until Reach that is… I sure hope Halo 4 at least has a few decent maps. Launch maps specifically… We all know that Reach DLC maps are far better than launch maps which isn’t really a good thing. We have all these decent maps in Reach that we simply can’t play as they don’t show up.

I want at least 3 awesome 4v4/5v5 maps in Halo 4 and at least 3 good btb maps at launch. So if 6 out of the 10 launch maps are good I’ll be more than happy.

I find like every map we’ve seen so far except Adrift.

Haven looks like a fantastic map. I have a feeling it will become the staple Halo 4 MLG map.

Longbow I’m kind of iffy about right now, but it looks ok. Exile looks pretty darn awesome though.

I want to see what the remake is. If it’s out of Halo 2 I am very certain I will love it.

Well, in my opinion, the 4 maps we have seen so far already look awesome. So, there, over 67% of the way there for you to be happy, Shabutie! Lol

Agreed.

Halo 4 should’ve striven to be more like Halo 2. Fast paced and balanced (equal starts) while also keeping the fun factor in there. Staying true to those rules and going anywhere they want with it would’ve been fine by me.

Opinions.

You’re one of those “if it’s not Halo 2, it sucks” people aren’t you?

> You’re one of those "of it’s not Halo 2, it sucks* people aren’t you?

Nope, I’d like a new game. However, if it followed the ideals that Halo 2 set in place, it’d be a great game.

I would prefer it take more from HALO 3 then it take from Halo Reach

In, the end halo 4 is a crazy mix of both – All we can do is, hope for the best .

I can’t be the only one who thought Halo 2 was the most disappointing of the series? Halo 2’s multiplayer was great, but I hope Halo 4’s campaign is nothing like 2’s.

Halo 3 2nd worse in the series? yeah… about that… WRONG. In my opinion Reach was the worse one. Why? Forge objects were dull grey pieces of metal, armor lock. Some weird cR BS no trueskill 1-50 system… No choppers, no elephants, nor hornets, no BR, you know i really could keep going but you get the point.

Referring to the thread now… I agree I want halo 4 to be its own game and not take after previous games too too much.

Keep in mind this is my opinion and Halo 3 is pretty much my favorite game, its the game i started xbox with. Its also the game ive had the most fun with on Xbox LIVE.

> I can’t be the only one who thought Halo 2 was the most disappointing of the series? Halo 2’s multiplayer was great, but I hope Halo 4’s campaign is nothing like 2’s.

Somehow, I feel that the ending for Halo 4 will be left on a cliffhanger like in Halo 2.

People need to stop asserting that one game is better or worse than another as if their opinions are absolutes.
