If this is happening, i will mourn for the loss of Xbox live’s greatest treasure. However, i had an idea for 343 to turn Halo 3 profitable again.
Online pass.
I know what your thinking: ONLINE PASSES SUCK! Well, in this way, it’s valid. Think of it: If Halo 3 is not generating a big enough profit, then why should they keep up the servers? It’s only fair that they shut down what is not making money. But then again, what if they made an online pass and just set the servers up for it? That way the players who are serious about the game can continue to play and the trolling players can’t access serious games. I’d love to see more content come with a $10 pass, but i’d be fine paying $10 for more time with the king of FPS on this grand old console.

…because for once, corporate sheople should appeal to the people. and not greed.
Oh no wait…impossible.
Making Passes and updating the system would cost money so I think thats not an option. But making ALL the playlist require ALL the maps would make easy cash. If you want to play you need to BUY the maps.
Better solution. Make halo 4 have playlists that are in halo 3. As in, you put h4 disc in, search h3 snipers. Population is back, money fows in on map packs, and I dont go on a rampage (except in matchmaking)
It will be a sad day when they shut down the Halo 3 servers. Although i hold Halo ce and Halo 2 close to my heart they dont come close the the amount of hours, days, months i spent playing Halo 3. Some of my best friends are a direct result of Halo 3, long live the king of xbl.
Why would they release Recon only to shut down the servers, it would be them doing more work then needed if that was their intent. The servers are just not getting attention because of Halo 4’s development.
then think of young people , like 13,14,15 etc. . . , are they going to pay the extra ten dollars , for a game witch will have no one play , already there a long waiting times one that game , but then reduce the players by 3/4 that would kill the servers and they would lose more money keeping the servers up for a game that only like 100 to 500 people play , not a good idea at all
As long as the Xbox Live servers remain up, then Halo 3 will always be up for matchmaking. The only reason Halo 2 was shut down was because Microsoft wanted to shut down all the original Xbox servers and Halo 2 was one of the last ones still up. Since Halo 3 is for Xbox 360, then we can expect Halo 3 to be still online at least until the next Xbox comes out.

Even if that were to happen, fans would make a something like XBC and still play Halo 3. And I doubt that they would shut down the Xbox Live servers 1-2 years after they release Halo 4.
How is this trolling? Weren’t the Halo 2 servers shut down because Microsoft discontinued the Original Xbox Live service? What I mean is that if there was another similar situation, this would probably be the only time the Halo 3 servers would be shut down.
