Getting into the Halo 3 Classic Throwback shows how Halo gameplay should look like. As it is now in Team Arena, Slayer and HCS playlists for example, the pace is waaay too fast. You spawn too fast for the incredible fast map movement you have, and coupled with small/medium maps it means you can travel anywhere on any map in just a few seconds.
Just an example,
If you get, say a double kill vs a team of four,; a couple of seconds later 2 more PLUS the player you first killed shows up on your flag. I mean this is way too chaotic for good gameplay and it’s reminiscent of those bullethell arcade games more than halo.
I’m not against sprint per se, but sprint + thruster + current spawn times + classic sized 4v4 maps is not well thought out. This promotes and benefits kamikaze-style gameplay in every mode other than slayer where your deaths matter. You died in flag? No matter, you’ll be at their flag 2 seconds after you spawn.
The Halo 3 playlist shows a much sounder pace for classic sized maps, and the gameplay promotes skill in more than good aim. It promotes way more thinking, strategy and tactics.
Just my 2 cents, I hope 343 finds their way to this in Halo Infinite
You can literally kill their entire team twice while running flag and still one of the enemy players can show up at your flag for a touch.
I honestly find the playlist boring. If the next halo is classic style with no thruster, or sprint (can do without spartan charge) I wouldn’t buy it. But obviously that’s just my opinion. I agree though that with the fast movement that the map size should be bigger. There has been plenty of times in ffa that I have been killed and spawned in to have the guy that just killed me flying at me to kill me again. Oh and I have to say that halo 5 is the only FPS I’ve played so I didn’t grow up playing the older halos so take my opinion how ever you want.
I like sprinting and thrusting but honestly I had a ton of fun playing H3 throwback.
I think its very enjoyable. With sprint, thrust, eveyone just runs away to the other side of the map in the blink of an eye if you get shot at. Throwback brings back the good 1v1 br fights that we all grown to love in H3
spawning is at a all time low in halo 5 i will agree and not even with players with NPCS too.
Anyone else constantly get screwed over by random NPC spawns in warzone that will be place breathing distance behind you ?
I agree, I just think the spawns are broken and in some cases they used the wrong versions of the maps in terms of weapons on the field. Example, Construct and Epitaph should not have sniper rifles. I also think the spawn of those weapons on the pit is wayyy too short.
Also I find it ironic that the same issues that existed on Foundry in H3 with the spawn camping, still exist in the H5 iteration. This is incredibly frustrating.
I don’t really like the halo 3 throwback playlist. I just think the game isn’t built for it, an example being the grenades are way too op.

That’s to be expected though. When you make a classic playlist in a game that’s designed for modern abilities, you’re going to run into problems like the grenades or weapons being an issue. It’s not ideal, but it’s the best we’re going to get if you want to play classic style.
I couldn’t ageee more. Last time this playlist was in rotation, I was on the same team as a kid, who, after the game said “That was hard, I’m never playing this again!” He had never played the OG Halos. The reality is, the OG halos forced you to pick your battles and be mindful of where cover was. The Spartan abilities are a get out of jail free card that take away that level of tactical thinking and turned the game into a drawn out, twitchfest. If you start a battle and fail to land your shots, great, thrust to cover instead of suffering the consequences of your bad decision to start a fight you didn’t have the skill to win. Want to get up somewhere? No problem, you don’t need to plan your jumps and time your crouches, just clamber. See someone below you that you want to kill? Easy, instead of 4 shotting them, just jup off and aim in their general direction for a virtually guaranteed, easy kill! Speaking of easy kills, why bother working with your team to get legitimate kills when you can run around, flank your enemy, and Spartan charge them for a virtually free kill! By the way, don’t worry about where you are on the map, if you are in a bad place because you didn’t stick with your team, you can just run away from the enemy team.
No, Halo 5 rewards bad teamwork with easy solo-kills and escape methods. The old Halos punished you dearly for being a bad tactition. Moreover, they made you earn your kills.
What he said ^ . I mainly enjoy the maps H3 had to offer. Sooooo good. What are the odds some throwback maps can be tossed into the swat or arena rotation? I feel this would give the game quite the boost
