Halo 3 Original Spartan and Elite Undersuits

I’ve seen some people talk about this on Reddit awhile ago when the change first happened but I haven’t seen anything here on Waypoint. When 343 updated MCC awhile back, they changed the undersuit of the Spartans in Halo 3 to more closely resemble the undersuit of Master chief in H2A. For season 7 of MCC that came out with a battle pass full of new elite armor for Halo 3. With that update they also changed the undersuit for Elites for whatever reason. I understand that if you toggle off the “new customization” in the settings, it restores the original Elite undersuit for Halo 3 but this isn’t the case for the Spartan undersuit, as the new Spartan undersuit remains the same regardless of the toggle. Also, I do like a lot of the new customization for MCC and don’t want to disable all of it just to be able to see the OG elite undersuit. My only request of 343 is for them to create a new option in the Halo 3 customization menu in the undersuit section to be able to equip the original Halo 3 Spartan and Elite undersuits. Does anybody else feel the same or am I the odd one out? I just feel like the original Spartan and elite undersuits look better and I’d assume it would be pretty easy to put them back into the halo 3 as an option.

Unless a bug broke this, this is the case. Enabling the toggle will display the original undersuit for Spartans as well.

The original undersuits don’t fit well with the new armors added which is the reason why they included an updated undersuit. I would appreciate if they could get the original to work better, if not I’m fine with the new GEN1 undersuit.

I’ll have to check back on that to see but regardless of whether the original tech suit can be returned with the toggle or not, as I said before I do like some of the new cosmetics and would prefer to use them along side some of original stuff without having to disable all the new stuff. 343 could simply add the original tech suit as an option in the menu

Its also important to note that the original ‘undersuits’ aren’t really undersuits in terms of game topology. Old armor was effectively part of the undersuit, while new armor sits ontop of it. Thats why the undersuit changed.

Improvements were made recently, I think the Flood Firefight update made the hands more similar to the legacy Halo 3 hands, looking great but clipping with some of the arm cosmetics. Not much past that though, since the Halo 3 techsuit had barely any details.

As for the Elite techsuit, that one is so drastically different, I’m genuinely surprised that there’s not more an uproar, the faces aren’t animated on the new helmet pieces, the tertiary colors aren’t used in any of the armor, and high Field-of-Views cause the legs to obstruct vision and clip with the user, and the new techsuit doesn’t resemble the Halo 3 Elites, while both the old Halo 3 AND Halo Online techsuits are lost. Halo 3 techsuits aren’t even readily visible since the only way to see them is by being the third player in a campaign. They DID add the Combat Harness waist piece to all the new legs, which is a pretty good touch.

they changed the hands to look like Halo 3’s legacy as opposed to H2A’s design, which broke the Gen 2 hands causing them to be almost bee-stung bloated. the last update at least fixed the clipping issues for both, however now the new Gen 1 hands cause the pieces to float as the Gen 2 are still bloated.

the Combat Harness waist being on all sets is still an issue since the Online sets did have their own waist. unlike Soldier for the Spartans, they forgot to port over the set it was stored on (Cleric was that set). but just like the lack of Elite techsuit variety, outdated Mark VI that can be updated with the H2A pieces, or the missing stealth Elites in ODST, not enough people bring it up for them to act on it.

It is super weird that the new elite base model has donuts on their elbows.
I think they should do away with having these models as the baseline and replace it with something akin to the core system from Infinite. Might allow for more customization that way without causing model tearing to the original armor pieces too.

The core system that is deeply unpopular with the greater community due to stifling mix-and-match customization? Yeah, that’s a great way for 343i to acquire quite a lot of aggro from those that play MCC.

Wouldnt be the first time

Agreed. The issues with Elites need to be fixed.

Spartans too, new Mark IV sleeves look better than the jutting out armor piece, from before, but the suit still isn’t as bulky as it used to be.

The original undersuits are present if you toggle off the new armor. If you have new armor turned on then you will see the H2A undersuit in Halo 3. It should be noted that the new undersuit is always present in the menus as the toggle doesn’t affect the menus.

I toggled them off and I still get the new crap in matchmaking & CG.

you sure you have that off for h3? cuz almost every game has that toggle

each game has a toggle independent of each other, so you need to make sure it’s the Halo 3 one.

(also obligated to repeat: the Reach toggle is infamously buggy and horribly implemented it treats restored DLC content as if it’s the same as the New or Fractures content)
