Halo 3 or Halo 4... Why not both?

What’s so bad about liking both the classics and Halo 4? Around here, I tend to notice that people usually only like one or the other, but not both. I know that there are other people who do like both, but when those people post about how they do, the ones who say you can only like one or the other (usually the people who just like the classics) try to tell them they’re wrong (sometimes, not all the time. I’m not so ignorant as to say that there aren’t any constructive arguments and discussions here on Waypoint.)

But my question is, what’s wrong with liking both?

I mean, yeah, the classics had some really good features and gameplay, but they weren’t perfect, and Halo 4 has some pretty good ideas, but it isn’t perfect either. Nothing is perfect. So why do some people say you can only like one or the other? Why can’t there be people who are in the middle?

Not trying to start a flame war or anything, this is just something I’ve been curious about.

Because classic halo and “modern” halo are radically different playstyles. Thats why, I dont like the playstyle of “modern” halo I never have and never will.

I personally like both of the playstyles.

I love both styles, I just prefer classic Halo.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with liking both. Everyone is entitled to like whatever they want. For someone to say that you can only like one or the other is just immature and absurd.

Because Halo 4 was created to be a fundamental departure from the past Halo’s. Essentially, it was not to be Halo. It was meant to be a hybrid of Halo, CoD, and Battlefield elements. It was created to appeal to the lesser skilled and the non-Halo players.

That’s why I prefer traditional Halo over Halo 4… because traditional Halo is Halo. Halo 4 is… something else.

No one is saying you can’t like both (I certainly do). But there is also nothing wrong with having a preference.

I’m not saying you can’t have a preference, I only see it as a problem when people try to say that you HAVE to have a preference.

I prefer Reach.

No one is saying you either like this or that. In fact I have never once seen someone say that.

I do like both but the problem isn’t that halo 4 is a decent game, it is that it falls short of halo standards. Halo 4 had the potential to be a great game but fell short. All it needs is some tweaking all around to create an awesome halo 5

I have. Not necessarily on Waypoint, but in other Halo communities, as well as on matchmaking in Halo 4.

People liked ‘classic’ Halo games for the style of gameplay and when much of this is removed in Halo 4, people aren’t going to like it.

If you liked a restaurant and new owners took over and removed everything you liked about it, you are going to want the old style back. It is the same for Halo.

I like all Halo games, just some more than others.

Really? Because I’ve seen entire threads started under the premise of “If you like Halo 4 you aren’t a real Halo Fan”.

I like both, and I still play both. Although Halo 4 can be frustrating from time to time, I still play it. When I am feeling bored, I either play Halo: Reach or Halo 3.

Because Halo 4 is no challenge for play is noob firendly game where every one thinks their pros and had change too much. Change YES this much change HELL NO!!!

Exactly, those kind of threads ticked me off. Why would you post a thread saying something like that, people can have opinions can’t they?

Yes, sometimes too much change can be a bad thing. The one thing I hate about Halo 4 is how little skill it takes to do good in a game.

  1. Halo 2 Post Patch
  2. Halo 4
  3. Reach v7
  4. Reach TU
  5. Halo 3
  6. Reach vanilla
  7. Halo 2 Pre Patch

I love both, with Halo 4, Halo’s combat is evolving (see what I did there) which is actually a pretty good thing, But if I’m in the mood for nostalgia I’ll play Halo 3
