Halo 3: ODST Cinematic Campaign Playthrough

Going to throw this one up here on Waypoint as well. Might as well. =p

This was all made back in about November 2009, for a friend who enjoyed Halo, but does not own an Xbox 360.
If you’re hoping to see great feats of skill or speedruns, then forget it right now.
My only intention was to try and make a somewhat movie-like rendition of Halo 3: ODST, within some of the reasonable limits of the older campaign theatre mode. Never quite finished it (dunno if I’ll resolve that), the final part is missing, but the bulk of the game is covered. Right up until the arrival of the main Covenant Fleet. Lacking an awful lot of polish, especially in the earlier ones… though as a learning experience, I think each ‘episode’ benefits from the experience of making the previous one.
Personally, I feel that I started to get into the stride of things a bit more from Episode 3 onwards.
Now that youtube has abolished its limits on the length of videos, its possible to make it available to a far wider audience.
It is what it is though, and now it is in a youtube playlist format.
So if you are brave, you can sit through all 2 hours in one go.
Enjoy!

Bry’s Halo 3: ODST - ‘The Movie’ - cinematic campaign playthrough

This is really cool.

nicely done

Wow! I somehow missed this before.

> Wow! I somehow missed this before.

You missed it on HBO? For shaaame, lol. =p

I would watch this but the episodes are so long my GB for this month will get drained… need to wait for the 20th

Good for a learning experience. I watched bits and pieces, and I noticed that you could have spent more time outside the first person view. It’d give those moments of non-combat much more cinematic and deep. Also, adding weapon lowering in there would have done wonders for the cinematic feel. Having the Rookie’s gun up at all times made me realize I was watching a video game rather than trying to experience it cinematically.

Again, good for a start, though. It wasn’t terribad, and that’s a good step.

…maybe… :stuck_out_tongue:

Watching bits and pieces makes it rather likely to miss the times when its not in first person view. =p
Given the limitations of the older theatre mode (no rewind in campaign) and the desire to keep music in sync where possible, certain decisions were made.

If you try it in ODST, you’ll see that the animation for the SMG isn’t very good. The hands look to be in an almost impossible position. So, sadly, lowering the weapon was not very viable. It actually looked worse than having it up.

Strangely enough, if you press the “switch weapon” button fast enough, it will appear as if you are holding down weapon in the correct position. It certainly does NOT help when filming long walking scenes from third person, but certain parts (such as standing in front of the terminal/phone booth where you give the superintendent access to your visor) could benefit from it.

I’m not asking you to go back and do it, this is already awesome enough, just rambling! :stuck_out_tongue:
