Halo 3 "Memorial" Mappack Proposal

I think we all agree that we want a Halo 3 mappack, only containing maps that would work with Halo 4’s sandbox. Yes, if we want old maps we could play them just by firing up Halo 3, but we want Halo 4’s game mechanics and multiplayer population.

Here is my proposal for this mappack dubbed “Memorial”, along with argumentation.
The mappack would feature remakes of: Construct, The Pit, Guardian, Last Resort and Foundry.

Halo 3 Memorial Mappack

Risen (Construct)

Why this map: Would be the best fit for Halo 4 due to it’s Forerunner style, long pathways which suit well for Sprint and verticality which makes the jetpack great. Imagine this with Halo 4’s beautiful new Forerunner art style.

Suited gametypes: Infinity Slayer, Oddball, Regicide, SWAT, Flood, King of the Hill

Boot Camp (The Pit)

Why this map: One of Halo 3’s fan favorites. Would add a much needed symmetrical map to Halo 4’s current offerings. Again, long pathways which suit well for Sprint, would also be great for objective gametypes. Fits well with the story of the Infinity being a training exercise for Spartan IVs. Imagine this with Halo 4’s new graphics, the new Pelicans and Requiem’s landscape outside.

Suited gametypes: Infinity Slayer, CTF, Dominion, Oddball, Regicide, SWAT, Flood, King of the Hill

Sentinel (Guardian)

Why this map: Yes, Guardian. It was Halo 3’s most popular map by far. Halo 4 needs some more small-scale maps, and some more green. It’s not too small for Halo 4; if you think of it, it’s not much bigger than Haven. However, its size should be tweaked a little bit so you still have to use the man cannons to get around instead of jetpacking. This would also make the pathways longer for Sprint. Imagine this with Halo 4’s new graphics; beautiful overgrown Forerunner area with the new lighting. Jetpack could work really well here.

Final Harbor (Last Resort)

Why this map: Ah, Last Resort, we have missed you. What’s a Halo game without Last Resort? Yes it has been remade already from Halo 2 (Zanzibar) for Halo 3, but it would still work great in Halo 4’s sandbox. How many times have I wished for Sprint in Halo 3 when I spawned on the beach? Also features lot of space for vehicles, great points for bases for Dominion. And we just want a beach and palm trees in a map! Imagine this with Halo 4’s graphics.

Suited gametypes: Infinity Slayer, Big Team Infinity Slayer, Oddball, Flood, King of the Hill, CTF

Cargo (Foundry)

Why this map: Halo 4’s Forge desperately needs a large, flat Forge map with a lot of objects. The flat space in Erosion can do the job, but doesn’t have all the cool objects Foundry did, and has a lot of brown rocks and objects. Foundry was Halo 3’s best Forge map according to many, and also a great map overall in multiplayer. The remake could take place on Infinity’s cargo deck instead of a warehouse. Imagine this with Infinity’s interior (as seen in the beginning of the campaign level Shutdown).

Suited gametypes: Any (Forge)

Why not add [insert map here]?

This were the best and most popular maps I could come up with that also work with Halo 4’s sandbox, although Avalance and High Ground could work well too, but since there are no flying UNSC vehicles, Avalanche wouldn’t work. High Ground could work though, having the same kind of terrain as the Mammoth mission, so that one could be switched with Last Resort. Snowbound and Isolation would work really well too, but those weren’t too popular. Blackout, Epitaph, Heretic and Citadel wouldn’t work in Halo 4’s sandbox due to Sprint. Sandtrap (and Sandbox) would be ruined by the DMR. Really, I’ve been thinking about what would work best in this mappack for a while :wink: Maps from other games haven’t been mentioned since, well, it is a Halo 3 mappack.

That’s a LOT of maps you want out of 343…

Probably the most you could expect would be sandbox or the pit, and they’ve already brought back valhalla so those are looking pretty bleak as well.

I say most you can hope for is a Halo: Reach map at best.

I too would like a “legacy” map pack, except I would include one map from each of the Halo’s (Halo CE-Reach). THEN, I’d gladly pay the 1200 MSP

I find your lack of sandtrap disturbing.

Regardless, the most important thing to get out of this would be one of Halo 3’s forge maps COMPLETE with its palette (Any new additions would also be welcome, provided all of the old palette is still there). That is an absolute must, IMO.

i want narrows. loved that map and it would work with the dmr. somebody make it in forge

As I stated, Sandtrap wouldn’t be the same with a DMR that can cross-map you right on your spawn point. Also, I don’t know if the Mammoth would work in multiplayer.

Chiron TL-34. I think this Halo:CE map could use some Halo 4 love.

I like those maps but I hate Construct, I think it’s because I never got a win on it…

No thanks. Please just give us a Halo 2/CE map pack. Any of us can load up and Matchmake Halo 3 at any point in time. And those of us without a copy of the game can find it used for 15$.

Please read the whole first post first before replying. Why do you think people want remakes? They enjoyed those maps and want to play them in the newest installment with the highest MULTIPLAYER POPULATION.

H3’s maps were nothing special and I’d rather not have them remade for H4. Especially not The Pit, horrible, horrible map.

Nah, just give me no remakes anymore or a H2 Legacy pack including Terminal, Turf and Containment.
Halo 2 had the best maps in the entire series. If we need more remakes it need to be from the beat Halo ever. Not from a game that can be played on the same console, no matter of the online population.

Foundry is the size of the grifball court. Pointless to remake it. I’d much rather have Sandbox.

The list is okay, but I’d like to see;

  • Prisoner (H1)
  • Rat Race (H1)
  • Turf (H2) OR Terminal (H2)
  • Relic (H2)
  • Snowbound (H3)
  • Guardian (H3)

Perfect list and would spend 1200MSP on this.

Hell yes I would pay for this. Though I would add sandbox or sandtrap to that list, I would kiss the 343 logo on the Halo 4 box.

All sounds great to me! I can’t see it requiring THAT much work, and the payoff would be huge!
